Hello, I am new to the forums. I just got a PS4, which is my first ever PS console. I've always been a Nintendo gamer in the past, but the Wii U is not fulfilling all of my gaming needs.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any good tips about getting the most out of my new console. Is PS+ worth the cost? I thought I read that during a certain time of the year there is regularly a good sale; if that is true I would be willing to wait it out until then. I have Killzone and Infamous so far, haven't gotten a chance to try them. I'm looking forward to TLOU this summer, I almost got a PS3 so I could play that and Dark Souls (I'm hoping for a Dark Souls and GTA port for PS4).

Are there any other games I should make a priority to get? I'm thinking Tomb Raider will be my next purchase if TLOU isn't out by the time I'm ready for a new game.

Thanks!

Hey, welcome to Push Square!

I think many would say that you've already bought the most interesting game that's available on PS4 at the moment, and that's Infamous: Second Son. There are plenty of big third party titles coming out later this year, like Destiny, Batman: Arkham Knight, and Assassin's Creed: Unity, so I wouldn't worry too much about grabbing every game that's out right now - things are only going to get better, as they do with almost every generation of consoles.

If you're only got a PS4, I wouldn't say PS+ is a necessity since the instant game collection (a collection of free games you get from subscribing to the service) isn't very big yet. For the past few months, the PS4 has got free indie games, and although these aren't bad games by any means, you may not think that they're worth the fee. If you owned a PS3 or Vita along with your PS4, PS+ boasts fantastic value.

That said, if you want to play Killzone online, or any other game that isn't free to play or an MMO, then you'll need PS+. So it's really up to you: you could wait for a certain game to become free that interests you, or if you want to get stuck into online multiplayer right now, you could buy a subscription and see what games get offered in future.

As for getting the most out of your console, just enjoy your games. Take your time, soak in the graphics, explore the worlds, etc. You've only got a couple right now, so perhaps take advantage and really sink yourself into both of them. There are also a few free to play games that you can download from the store, so it may be worth trying them, too.

Outside of games, definitely check out the console's different apps. Once you've added a few friends, the "what's new" section is quite interesting as it shows everything that your friends have been up to. "Live on PlayStation" is great too - you can watch other people stream their games live, which is handy if you're interested in seeing how a specific game plays, or if you're thinking of buying a particular title.

If you like racing games I suggest you look into Need for Speed: Rivals. It's a really fun game. Warframe is also a good FTP download.

Hmm I think you should have bought the ps3 instead, due to the large selection and sales EVERY Tuesday . But the ps4 does have a wave of indie titles coming shortly,  you can count on better updates unlike the Eshop's slow pace and way better titles in general. As far as AAA titles go you can always check out news here to find out whats new.

My recommendation would be to play/ buy Transistor with your other two purchases

Resogun, NFS, Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed, Zen/Star Wars Pinball, Outlast, Warframe, Killzone, Infamous, Wolfenstein are all worthwhile titles.
Coming up soon, TLOU should be worth a punt, Watch_Dogs early reviews are promising, and hopefully Transformers will be a good buy too.

There's plenty to sink your teeth in to.

And yes, plus is very much worth it.

Since last update you need to switch off the DS4 and then on again for the rumble to work ; I hope they fix it soon with an update. Also when you get a PS4 the headset setting is for chat by default and you need hold PS button to change setting if you want to use a headphone.
If you only have PS4 you should wait for a game you like to get PS+ unless you need it now for multiplayer

The crowd, accepting this immediately, assumed the anti-Eurasian posters and banners everywhere were the result of acts of sabotage by agents of Goldstein and ripped them from the walls.

If you like sports games MLB The Show is a must. And if you don't feel like waiting for the Wii U version of Watch Dogs, I'd say get it on PS4.

Thanks for the tips I will probably get PS+ next time it's on sale, I don't have any need for online gaming at the moment. I did think about getting the PS3 but since I also have the Wii U I think the two consoles together should keep me pretty entertained. I'm hoping for more ports/remasters will come so I can catch up on some of the titles I missed on PS3. I also really wanted to get Batman this fall, which helped make that decision. I know the selection is a little thin at the moment, but this fall is looking pretty strong.

I definitely plan to take my time and enjoy what I have, but Resogun and Transistor are definitely on my radar for the indie titles, I've heard good things about them.

thanks guys, I'm pretty excited to try this thing out tomorrow when I have some free time

@Mathieran

I'm also a big Nintendo gamer myself, and own the Wii U and PS4. So allow my to share some perspective, seeing as your taste in gaming probably aligns somewhat with mine.

Basically, I play Wii U and 3DS for all the Nintendo 1st party titles because I love them, and fill in gaps with the PS4 and Vita.

Personally, I stay away from PS Plus. I'm not that big into online gaming- and the games I DO play online (Mario Kart 8 and  Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate) are on Wii U anyways (with free online). So I never saw the need to pay for the service myself. Now, there are many here who swear by it because of the free games every month, but me personally, I buy everything I want anyways and can't even keep up with the games I buy.

As for games worth buying, well, I can tell you right now the game to own on PS4 is Infamous Second Son. Other honorable mentions include Tomb Raider, Trials Fusion and Wolfenstein. And if you're into indie games, Transistor and Resogun are worth consideration. Now, there are multiplats too like CoD, AC and Watch Dogs, but those can be obtained on Wii U (or in the case of Watch Dogs, will be soon enough). I'm trying to stick to games you can't obtain on the console you already own.

So there you have it. I think you made the right choice going multi-console. One platform just isn't enough when you're an avid gamer, whether it be Wii U, PS4, X1... it doesn't matter. After many years of owning multiple consoles, I've found the best combination to be Nintendo and Sony.

I'd say try Knack since its a decent blend of PS1 style platforming and a 3D beat em up.
