I've just started playing Arcania: The Complete Tale.
It got pretty bad reviews. Pushsquare gave it a 3/10, but there's something about it I like. It made me wonder, what games do you enjoy despite them getting terrible reviews?
I've got a library of over 1500 PS4 games, and every once in awhile I do this thing where I randomly pick a game. Today I picked "A Boy and his Blob"... And... So the game moves at a glacial pace, the controls feel horrible and counter-intuitive, and there's these really strange and bothersome hitbox issues with enemies...
Yet despite all this, it captivated me and I found myself playing it for almost 4 whole hours straight today. Lol
I don't know if it's the thought of "what could have been" (because admittedley, the game has some neat mechanics underneath its clumsy execution), or it's the touching in-game (behind the scenes) videos of the game designer with his young son-- using him as a reference for your character.
About 25 hours into Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered, it stuns me that it was so critically panned on release. Either this is a brilliant remaster that fixes major issues with the game or I just have terrible taste. Personally I really love slower paced games which is why I liked Red Dead 2 and I get similar feelings when running around the wilderness in AC3.
@nessisonett It's probably among my least favourites of the series but I still enjoyed it. It's probably the high point in the whole franchise for close combat animations though. I miss this kind of stuff from the newer ones.
Yeah, I think my previous response was the Telltale games, which I all usually enjoy, for some strange reason.
My other answers were more based on critical and non-PushSquare opinions - The Order 1886 and MGSV:TPP, but on these forums those games are actually quite beloved by many.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Bentleyma- I’m absolutely loving Assassin’s Creed III, it ticks so many boxes for me. If you’re going to play it, make sure it’s the remaster as the graphics are insanely good and by all accounts, it fixes the stealth.
I may be shamed for saying this, but I kind of dug Knack. It was pretty simplistic, but it was an excellent palate cleanser after playing through a couple of open-world games.
The presentation sucks balls but the gameplay is genuinely fun as hell and it had easily the best online netcode of any in-house Capcom fighting game this gen.
@Bentleyma- Dang, really?! I may have to check it out. I felt like there were parts in the first one that could be fairly difficult (several enemies could one-shot you). Is this a part of the second one (I am a sucker for difficult platformers)? Also, is the story better? I found the first lacking.
The Walking Dead Survival Instinct is a game with low review scores i enjoyed. Metacritic and other review scores are about 35/100. Had i paid $50 or $60 with AAA quality expectations i would have been disappointed. However i read reviews, watched videos, and waited for a low price. I paid $20 for a new copy 18 months after release and enjoyed the game.
@ TheldleCritic, The Saboteur did receive a few low scores but overall metacritic and other reviewers have it about 70-75/100. The Saboteur is one of my PS3 favorites. I love it when sections of occupied Paris become liberated and those sections go from black and white to color. Also what others game offers parkouring to the top of la Tour Eiffel ?
