@Th3solution You unlock the 'Perfect Dodge' counterattack move on the last spot in the 'Evasion' tree. Your timing has to been bang on though but is it really useful against the unblockable red glinting attacks.
Only standard attacks can be blocked by holding down L1. Special attacks marked by a blue or red glint you will receive damage if you try to block them.

@JohnnyShoulder Thanks. Yeah maybe I’ll start working on that skill tree. There is just so many cool places to spend my points!

My massive enjoyment of the game hit a small speedbump when I came upon one of the obligatory tailing missions. Why these have to be in every game, I’ll never understand. This felt like another version of the Mary Jane Missions in Spider-Man, and very similar to those trailing missions from the older Assassins Creed games. It’s just jarring to go from the free flowing and open ended exploration and combat to a mission where there is a specific path you have to take to stealthily follow an NPC. Here’s hoping there isn’t many more of those. I very much like stealth sneaking into a camp and assassinating enemies one by one because I can do it in dozens of different ways, but I don’t care for pre-scripted missions where you automatically fail if you veer off the set course and decide to follow the NPC on your own path the “wrong” way.
The rest of the main and side quests (or tales) have been great though. Even some small moments like finding a shrine that tells a tragic tale of death and destruction is very well done. I’m still in the first section, probably 1/4 of the first island map is explored. I’m focusing on main missions unless there is a collectible or supplemental side mission on the way. I did my first “mystic tale” and it was a step above and a little harder than the standard ones. The boss at the end was quite difficult. I died like 5 times trying to bring them down.

@LN78 For sure. I guess the upside is that when you fail at least the game respawns you right at the moment you deviated from the intended path, so there is no time lost. I kept respawning up on the roofs after I repeatedly tried to sneak through the grassy areas on the ground 😅, so I guess the game wanted me to use the roofs.
Yeah, I’ve only done one mystic tale so far but it clearly had more polish, including the beautiful intro painting story panes. I think I’ll try to spread out the mystic tales and savor them since they are among the highlights of the game and I don’t want to run out of them too quick.

@Th3solution I don't recall there being too many tailing missions so did not have any problems with them, but as mentioned previously I felt there were way too many tracking missions when you are following muddy footprints. And those ones at night time can go f themselves.
Finished the story last night. Some of the main missions were so exhilarating and epic to play. Will defo go for the platinum as I've only got a few of the exploration ones to get and liberate the final area.
@Th3solution Yeah, Bloodborne is a great game, great release from From Software, I also relied heavily on dodging for that game, but I would say a surfeit of skill is still required to make it through alive. How are you feeling GoT compared to Bloodborne and other From Software titles in general? Are you looking forward to the Demon's Souls remake/ Mortal Shell to tide us over until Elden Ring is inevitably released?
With regard to the tailing missions, I recently had to follow a monk from the Golden Temple, it did somewhat break up the flow of the game.
@Draco_V_Ecliptic Yeah, I have been feeling the game combat reminds me more of Assassins Creed Origins but a recent boss battle had me feeling Bloodborne / FromSoft vibes. Since you were locked into 1 v 1 with a powerful boss that could destroy you in a flurry of 4-5 slashes, it made me do a lot more dodge, parry, and taking extra care and be selective about attacking and not get too greedy. It required a level of patience that previously had not been as necessary with the standard enemies so far. Other than that, I think it’s much more forgiving than a FromSoft based combat. Not to mention the frequent check pointing so there is very little penalty for dying.
As far as Demon’s Souls, I’m undecided. I think when push comes to shove I’ll probably play it, but only because I expect there will be a scarcity of PS5 games to choose from and it looks like it will be a highlight. If it was a PS4 remake I probably wouldn’t play it since I still need to go back and finish the Dark Souls games.

The last updated added in a firefly which follows you around and will point you in the direction of any nearby artifacts if you are wearing the Travellers Attire. I wondered why a green bug was buzzing round me!

This game is fantastic and awesome. Vast and many side quest to do. 1 thing lack is new game plus the ability to replay many times(main and side quest) . With carry over items and skills..
Let's us hope for a new game plus update.
So I'm still playing the game even though I got the platinum. 🤣
I've decided to collect the additional collectables like the banners and artefacts which don't count towards the plat.
I don't often do this, usually with games once I've finished the story or done the platinum I'm usually done with the game. HZD I put down as soon as I finished the story, Spider-man the same once i got the platinum, AC Origns shortly after i had done the main story and got bored of the gameplay loop. I can think of two games this gen which have resonated with me as much: Zelda BOTW and God of War. And for that reason when thinking of my top 5 this gen GoT will be right up there.

@JohnnyShoulder That’s high praise, indeed. Hopefully NG+ gets added in for you.
I’m loving it as well. I’m not sure I can put it in my top 5 yet, but I’ve got a lot of game left to see how it ends up (another 100 hours to put in by your standard 😜).
I value story quality, plot twists, and symbolic thoughtful narrative pretty highly, so that’s what will make or break it for inclusion in the highest echelon of PS4. So far, so good though — I really like the torn morality and honor vs dishonor arc.
@Th3solution Gameplay is king for me. I've played plenty of games where the story, characters, graphics etc are sub par but because the gameplay is so good I can overlook the shortcomings elsewhere. Whereas if gameplay is not doing it for me the story could be the best one written in the history of gaming, have the most sunning graphics ever, the characters be really memorable and i would most likely stuggle with the game.

I'm on holiday and can't drag myself away from this game, Have 62% of the trophies. One I have tried to get so many times is the fall damage one but enemies always move away or I end up just stabbing them before I can knock them off, I'll get there. A fun platinum to go for, will probably finish the main story tomorrow!
Collected everything (I think, since I'm not sure I've missed any "Key Items") in the game a couple of days ago. Had a hard time deciding which decision to go with at the end but decided with the one that gave me the red dye for the Ghost Armor. The story, characters and voice acting are okay but the star of the game's definitely both the environments and gameplay. The writing/dialogue could be better as well I felt. They seem to like to finish each others sentences. Also, I seem to recalled Jin asking Yuna why hasn't she left, yet in two separate cutscenes.
I also found it funny where your horse can't seem cross shallow waters at times but once you've swam across them and whistle it'll magically appear next to you.lol
Looking forward to the multiplayer. Hope it's good. Wonder, if charms, weapon and armor upgrades will be the rewards. As for the raid, it'll be interesting to see if they'll add any new and unique mechanics and if specific classes are required to complete it.
@JohnnyShoulder thanks for the tip, I'll try it out today. I was up till 3am playing last night thought it would be one last duel with the Khan then credits roll haha, should finish it today then it's trophy clear up time!
@MightyDemon82 Got my platinum over the weekend. Only had about 8 or so after i finished the main game and only used a guide for the last 3 hidden ones. Not sure exactly why 2 of them were hidden as they were not story related and I still would have needed to look at a guide even if they weren't hidden.
