Since beating XBC2 last year, I'm again in the mood for a nice long JRPG. Everything I've seen tells me it'll scratch that itch, although I haven't watched a huge number of videos as I don't want to spoil any surprises.
I didn't actually play NNK1 but I understand that's not essential by any stretch to enjoying NNK2 so I'm not really worried about it.
yes, the first was of my favourite games of last gen and this is one of my most anticipated games for this gen. ordered from shopto as they seem the cheapest at just under £40 and with any luck it should arrive the day before release.
I will certainly be picking this up. The original is a stand out classic from the PS3 era. Just walking through the environments was a joy being a fan of Ghibli-esque animation. Gameplay was spot on also. I believe the setting is the same this time around, but the characters and story are disconnected otherwise.
@KALofKRYPTON the battle system is real time this time round (if you didn't know already). I don't mind random battles myself but I do tend to prefer a real time system with lots of strategy these days. Not an easy thing to do but some games get it right.
My main turn off right now is the chibi style characters on the overworld. This is something I'll probably get used to pretty quickly to be honest so not a huge deal, but I hope there are plenty of towns/villages to explore with the higher detailed character models too.
I’m not too thrilled with what I’ve seen so far, but I’ll be picking it up regardless.
I’ve had a busy month between work & studying for exams for work, so I could really do with a meaty JRPG.

I might rent it at some point. I never played the first one sadly but always wanted too (one of the few regrets I have going with Xbox last gen), so depending on much of a need to have played the first one to understand and enjoy this one I might just skip it as well. Either that or maybe look for a play through on YouTube and watch that.

@KratosMD The price on the first one dropped pretty dramatically post launch as I remember. It was down to £20/£25 within three months. I considered buying it for that just to look at!
@kyleforrester87 I didn't know that. Not as interested without the little Welsh chap anyway!

Will be getting the Premium Edition day one even though I don't have time to play it because of MHW. Would've pre-ordered the CE but the physical contents in the NA version isn't very good plus it's way overpriced as well.
Currently sitting at 86 (41) on metacritic. That's one point higher than the first game.
Notable scores include a 10 from DualShockers- although they generally tend to score JRPGs highly (P5 'only' got a 9 though) & a 7.8 from IGN.
Seems like I've been worried for nothing. Roll on Friday !

@Fight_Teza_Fight fully expected 8/10 averages to be honest having read some previews recently but honestly anything above a 60% and I'd still be in day one. I'm usually weary of games that score 90+ but there are some real gems around the late 60's to early 80's averages.
I often find these games rated 90+ don't meet my expectations.
Edit: I'm a bit worried about the play time to be honest. I saw one of those reviews is saying 30 hours for the story? I was hoping for a triple figure game to be honest but it isn't looking that way.
@kyleforrester87 Doubtful that most peeps will beat in in 30 hours. Some of these reviewers are either very good or couldn't tell time if a watch bit them on the nose.
I've seen reviews on professional websites claiming that Final Fantasy VII is only 25 hours long lol. xD
@ReanSchwarzer7 FF7 can be completed in like 7-8 hours to be honest, which blows my mind but hey.
As for this game, I think reviewers are probably rushing it up to a point, but if claims of 30 hours are correct it would turn a more relaxed playthrough into 50-60 hours. Which is pretty cool, but still, I'm hoping for a nice 100-120 hour experience.
If the games good, that is. If it's junk I'll be glad to see it over in 4 hours
@kyleforrester87 Reviewers probably are rushing it to meet the deadline. I got well over 100 hours out of the first game for the platinum, although that included getting all the familiars which are no longer present.
