Cooking is maybe the only relaxing moment in Fallout 4. I'm glad there are many different recipes!
I think I used fast travel 2 or 3 times, when I still didn't know how the "settlement X is under attack!" worked. After realizing that failing one of that mission wasn't a tragedy, I just forgot I can fast travel. The game is so dense that one never knows what's next and on Survival there's always a chance to meet Legendary enemies even during short walks; that's the best incentive to be a "real" wanderer.
I didn't like too much NV but mainly because of its atmosphere, while I loved to death the depressive Fallout 3! I finished NV on hard difficult, Hard mode but I remember that food, water and beds were quite easy to find so the mechanic turned to be quickly forgettable duties. I mean I eat, drink and sleep regularly on F4 to be stronger or smarter and to save stimpaks: in this case, you feel like doing these actions actually worth the attention they ask. But in NV doing the same things felt like doing the laundry or queuing in a post office when all you want to do is be at home playing videogames!
My next game will be Dying Light Enhanced edition. I never played it, but I'm happy there's an Hard mode that makes the game more "survivor". This site seems quite silent about this game and I'd like to hear more opinions about it!
@themcnoisy: I wasn't blown away by Fallout 4 either and this is my first Fallout game so I'm not even affected by my experience in other Fallout games. The game does create a wonderful sense of exploration, I enjoy being able to mod my weapons to my own desires and two of the companions I've found are pretty interesting. But Ya Dogmeat is crap I think, dunno how many times a ghoul snuck up on me and dofmeat gave me no warning! They're are better companions in the game to look forward to Noisey and they're are some cool quests in the game but it also has a lot of dull ones too unfortunately :/
I'm 4 days, 8 hours into my first character and I just can not put it down! I've always liked Fallout 3 and NV but never got this hooked on them... I just think the base building/ weapon crafting and improved shooting have took it to another level from the previous Fallout games. The companions are good and the story is pretty decent aswell, I'm slowly coming to the end of the story now with the Minutemen though. The thing that this really improves on from the other Fallout's (3 and NV) for me is the fact that I can build my own bases, make my own storys and all the random events that happen aswell as the map just being so dense and full of surprises to explore. However the only little problem for me is that there doesn't seem to be that many side quests compared to Elder Scrolls games and Fallout 3/NV but I did enjoy them alot more. I was playing on normal and had some really good combat armour and it seemed a bit easy so I've upped the difficulty to hard and then again to very hard and got the Minutemen General armour (The defence is bad compared to my combat armour but it looks great) and it's a bit more challenging now... Hoping to finnish the story this weekend, looking forward to it!
Tonight I have been picking melons and building beds. Just wtf has happened to fallout? Its not Minecraft. I understand why people like this stuff - my kids love stampylonghead and stuff. But making me farm melons and get enough cloth to build beds..... Man its so pointless. I couldn't care less about these clowns I mean residents who constantly clip into the buildings, and I'm not joking the amount of bugs and glitches is horrendous.
The high point of tonight was trekking south west to an industrial area being overlooked by a train track. Its gonna kick off big time tomorrow.

@themcnoisy: You'll soon have so much materials that building settlements will turn in relaxing breaks between missions; just collect everything you can pick and use your companion as a mule. The very first time I arrived in Sanctuary I have spent more time in "building mode" there trying to understand what to do than what I do now that I have 23 settlements to protect!
Happy wandering! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuqI7yid3ew
@themcnoisy: To be fair once you finish those initial settlement quests (think it's building like 6 things) you can go and ignore it for the rest of the game which I did

@Hego: You don't have to do the settlements at all do you? @themcnoisy: I guess settlement building is a pain in the arse if you can't be bothered with it considering it's a big part of the game. But when you can build / repair a big castle and put all sorts of defences on it and have your favourite people defending it, it is cool(For me anyway). It is quite annoying when you get that one resident who sleeps in my house so I dressed up as Grognak and took the big axe and chopped his head of whilst he were sleeping. Haha.
This is your second warning please watch the language -Tasuki-
@Patinator: I'm actually just up to the quest about taking back the Castle, was really hoping it was an actual castle we were going taking back, that's brill the fact it's a castle would entice me into the settlement side of things rather than some plain suburban setting
Sorry @Tasuki didn't even realise I was using it. @Hego: It's really cool. Enjoy. I don't really do much with the settlements unless it's a cool area like Covenant and Castle, I also thought I'd build a fort around Sanctuary later on in the game when I decided I would side with the Minutemen. I only have 3 bases, but I have put alot of hours into them.
@Patinator: Beds can be assigned to settlers; select the settler and then the bed he/she must use to sleep. In this way you can create couples, families, men and women dormitories...
Ah Fallout 4. After having gone through a lot I have a strange relationship with this game. Whilst there are moments of joy in exploration, and I actually like the writing of the companions and the main narrative, there are so many things which get in the way of the fun.
In short, the game is just plain falling apart. It crashed on me numerous times for no reason (even during the character creation screen). The physics can be all over the place, the creation tools for settlements are clunky, and the companion AI can be absolutely dreadful at times. Then you've got all the dodgy transitions and graphical glitches. Fallout 4 can be really fun and engrossing, but f*** me it makes it hard to enjoy it.
@Churchy: I'm always surprised when I read about problems with games that run perfectly for me. I wonder if I have less problems because I'm always offline; I just connect my PS4 for firmware and software updates, but after that I just go offline. Maybe the console, being online while running a game, wastes CPU for other tasks...
During my first play through of f3 - I was constantly low on health and full of radiation. There was a constant sense of dread to any incoming threat. In f4 I have a companion who kills everything for me and seemingly infinite health packs and food. You can fast travel at a moments notice straight to your bed - fallout has become far to casual. Still great, but its lost the charm of its previous entree.

@themcnoisy: I play on Survival and my only companion is Dogmeat. I've sent all the others in different settlements as mayors, each with its own shack! My lvl 57 character loves to die: an accidental encounter with a mirelurk queen or a group of bloodsuckers can end only in a quick death or in a long run.
@themcnoisy: put it on very hard, I've noticed you do seem to die abit more unless your wearing power armour. I do agree though I feel like we get all the best guns, armour etc far too quick and it would be better if your weapons broke like in Fallout 3 and Oblivion imo...
I still love the game though it's my favourite on the PS4, I've put 5 days gameplay time into my first character. I plan to finnish a few more things and start a new melee character on survival and I'm going to live in a hut and hunt haha, I reckon this will be hard though. I'm also surprised it's running poor for people as I don't think I've encountered many bugs, and other than the framerate occasionally dropping it's ran fine for me.
@Patinator: @andreoni79: The bugs that @Churchy and @kyleforrester87 have mentioned are the crazy bugs - characters clipping through walls, npcs being stuck behind scenery, wasting vats because cover is in the way but its not reflected in the percentages, the clunkiness of swapping things through, the slowness of the transitions, enemies seeing you through walls, things or npcs blocking your path. Tonight during loading screen; artifacts just stopped loading up during that section - so it was a blank screen with the loading emblem - that's it no character or item models.
Also the transitions out of workbenches and making chems came to a standstill. Its like Bethesda have taken the worst bits and done nothing to correct them, even to the point the work arounds they have built in are broken too.
The games still loads of fun though.

@themcnoisy: I've got to around level 50 but I did start to notice my settlers glitching. I've built a fort at Sanctuary and they all just walk into a wall outside it really breaks the immersion haha. I probably don't notice certain stuff or get annoyed at bugs because I'm so used to Bethesda's games by now, I shouldn't give them a pass but I just love the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games they've created.
