Hey guys! I'm considering buying a PS4, but I've never owned a Sony console before. I'm afraid when I go to play some of the games (infamous, Uncharted, ect.) that I'm going to be lost story-wise. Other games though (Thief, Tomb Raider, Drive Club, Dying Light ect.) have me really interested. I have always played Nintendo games and I still love Ninty, but I wanna see what I've been missing out on. So what do you think guys? Will I be playing games that reference past games' stories a lot if I buy a PS4?

Well I am not sure if those games will be tied into the previous installments but you know there are other ways of finding out the story other then playing the previous games.  Like you can look for LP's on Youtube for the previous games and see the story that way.  Also I am sure you can look up the stories online somewhere and read them.

Don't let that be a barrier from getting a great system.  Even so I am sure your not the only one with this concern (I myself only owned a PS and PS2 before I got my PS4 so games like Uncharted I missed myself) and Sony knows that so I dont think they will make these games rely to heavy on the past games.  Still as I said there are ways that you can find the stories for the previous games of the series.

Also another thing to take in consideration is the streaming service of Playstation Now if it works out how it sound you will probably be able to find the other games on that once the service comes around.

Eventhough inFamous and Uncharted have multiple games in each series, what I've played of them so far it seems like both do a good job of featuring stories that stand well enough on their own that you won't be lost. Tomb Raider is an origin story and I think Thief is a reboot so don't have to worry about being lost in those either.

The good thing about the PS4 its that most of the games aren't taking all that in mind.
You can enjoy Killzone Shadowfall and Infamous Second Son without playing its predecessors and get everything that happened most of the time except for some references that they make now and then. That's what I heard from a PS Blog podcast on what they are not calling Killzone Shadowfall "Killzone 4" and Infamous Second Son "Infamous 3".

With that being said, there are alot of PS franchsies that you might consider playing on PS3 but with PS Now on the pipeline that may not be necesary.

Thanks for the replies guys! I think I'll wait and see what other games are coming. And there could be a price drop eventually as well. It's good to know that developers are trying to make their games more stand alone than just direct sequels.  I think I'll wait and see what E3 brings and base my decision on that.

Well i know that the new Infamous game is supposed to be a new story. as for the uncharted games it will most likly be a continues of the other 3 but with playstation launching the game streaming service you should be able to play the old uncharted games this summer when the service launches. they are great games so i would definitely recommend playing them. Also the Order 1886 is coming out and that is a brand new game and looks really good!

As the others already said, most games are  "half-reboots", because plenty people who bought a PS4 didn't have a PS3 (I only had the PS1, PS2 and then got a 360 before getting a PS4 for this gen). I played only Killzone 3, but I had no problems to follow Shadow Falls story. Also, Uncharted for PS4 hasn't got a number in the title, just "Uncharted", so maybe that's also a game that won't rely heavily on Uncharted 1-3.

I wouldn't be worried...I'm sure you'd enjoy the PS4 and the games quite a bit, should you decide to join the family.

So...do it...do it... *uses pocket watch like a pendulum

And E3 should really and properly blow our minds...not a bad idea to hold out until then, especially since there's gonna be more games out by then and you should be able to get some of the excellent launch games for a lot cheaper.

As far as potential price drops, it wouldn't surprise me at all if MS gets the X1 down to $400 by the fall. When that happens, I'd fully expect at least a $50 from Sony down to $350, which for the hardware we're talking about is a hell of a reasonable price.

The price is awesome as is but I do think that it'll drop eventually to stay ahead of the XB1 which will definitely have a price drop in the future. The thing is I have only owned Nintendo consoles in the past and only done some indie gaming on pc (not really a fan of pc gaming) so I've missed franchises like Assassins Creed and Mass Effect altogether. If those franchises do a similar sort of reboot such as the infamous one and the Tomb Raider one it'd be great for people like me. To  able to have enough money to buy the PS4 I would be trading in my Wii U and my 3DS and the few games I own with them. So once I commit there's no going back.  There's no doubt in my mind I'd love most of the PS4 games though so I'm definitely leaning towards just doing it.  And even if I don't like it (doubtful) I was looking at getting rid of my 3DS anyway and I can trade in the PS4 for over half the price of a Wii U.

One last thing, I live in the country and we can only get satellite internet. I have a 10 gb monthly limit. I always buy games retail and would only download smaller games from PSN. Will the PS4 eat up all of my internet? I don't plan to play online multiplayer a lot I mostly play solo or with people in the same room as me.

AC probably won't be getting a reboot but it's a series that tried having two stories at once, a historical one with a modern one running parallel to it, and while it seemed like a cool idea at first, fell flat over time. That said, I've always enjoyed the main stories in AC set at different periods and starring several different historical figures. No matter where you jump in at AC, just play it for those storylines and I think you'd have fun with it. As far as Mass Effect, right now they're sticking to their guns and saying Shepard's story is complete, we'll see if it remains that way, if so, the next Mass Effect will  basically be a reboot. Even if it's set in a time that makes references to the original trilogy, it's going to be new characters and all that jazz so there will be no problem getting into it.

Well if you get a limit it all depends on how big the game is that you are downloading.  Since you said that you wont be playing online alot then you wont have to worry about that.  Unless you end up using alot of the apps like Netflix for example then you shouldn't be eating up your limit.  Other then those thing the only other thing that the PS4 will download would be system updates.
