Well here I am with another OT of a game thats fond to me. Let me sum up why I think this game is awesome and everyone with a remote interest in realistic racing games should take a look:
multiple career paths
exceptional handling/damage/mechanical failure/pitstop/fuel/tire model
totally scalable experience for the guy that loves need for speed up to the simulation freak
awesome multiplayer and COOP racing
the closest thing to real racing ever hitting consoles
community developed and crowd-funded (I'm part of that) over the past few years
exceptional graphics and sounds as well as sense of speed
create racing teams/clubs and manage them
realistic and even realtime weather and day/night cycle for ALL tracks
huge field of racing possible from karts to prototypes to formula cars to GT cars and more
Let us discuss racing tips for beginners as well as general impressions here. We can arrange tournaments and friendly competitions here. Also lets start with talking about what's your angle on simracing?
Here's my story:
I never really liked simracers, or racing games in general. I enjoyed the odd session of Need for Speed 2 Special Edition back in the day but that was about it. Only when my then best friend introduced me to the fun of Forza Motorsport I slowly started to warm up to the car subject. I was well past my 20th birthday back then when I got hooked onto cars like usually boys do when they are around 12. So I was - like with everything in my life - a bit late with that. I enjoyed the heck out of Forza and Forza 2 but with Forza 3 and ongoing I was more and more disappointed. I played iRacing for a while but the heat of the stiff competition was too much for me back then. Then I switched to PS3 and got Gran Turismo 6 and fell in love with the genre all over again. I even platinumed it. I'm totally into Touring Cars (V8 Australian Supercars in RL) and endurance races, where weather, pit-strategy and fuel and tires play a big role. I love that kind of stuff. I even got a racing wheel and some nice setup for Gran Turismo 6. I'm a crowd-funder and "team member" (thats my tier-status) of Project Cars and had the joy to play weekly builds for it on my PC for the past 2 and a half years. I saw it grow and I saw the polish that they put into the game the past few months. I can only say it's the most visceral and up to snuff simulation (yet scalable to a level a Need for Speed freak can handle it well) I've ever played. So that's my angle on simracing!
I really hope it lives up to the expectations of the players, it surely does live up to mine, but only with commercial success is a wealth of DLC (free car DLC has already been confirmed) and a solid online community possible. This game truly has a very high status on my wishlist and is already pre-ordered on the store!
Hope to race you guys there!!

Was this the game that disappointed you during the beta? If it is it sounds like they improved it alot.
No that was the Crew. Totally different beast. I'm playing this game since early pre-alpha and saw a LOT of progress. Even in Alpha there was already multiplayer racing. Physics improved from build to build.

This game has been delayed 4 times. I'ill wait and see how it turns out before getting hyped for it.
I believe it will be for the better. As I said above I played Project Cars on a weekly build basis since the early pre-alpha and already had some awesome Multiplayer races and even the AI drivers aren't bad at all. Still, I understand you being careful about the hype, as I have it already pre-ordered (confidence!!) I'll let you know how it is once I got my Benz round Bathurst a few times.

OK cheers. I definitely have room in my life for a new driving game, especially if it runs at a steady 60fps, and includes longer races. Those are probably my two biggest problems with Drive Club.

Ah OK my bad. I really haven't been keeping tabs on all these racing games.

I have no idea how it will be on consoles unfortunately, but I've already seen gameplay videos with as much as 22 cars, not too shabby. Of course everything past 32 would absolutely blow my mind. It might be dependent on the tracks though. I only can say: silky smooth 60 fps. Awesome!

Some nice footage of the game (albeit PC) but the sounds are fantastic!
@Scollurio If you don't mind me asking how is the handling model in this game? I tried my best to get into DriveClub but the handling model just really put me off and I never could get used to it. Is the model in this game more customizable?

The handling model has been changed around quite a lot since its early days in early alpha, but I saw considerable improvement throughout the weekly updates and the past times I checked it was really spot on. You have a plethora of settings and the game even asks you how to tailor your experience based on your past history of racing games, it literally asks you if you want it to be more like Blur or Need for Speed, or more like Forza and Gran Turismo or Full On Sim. Depending on your choices the game adds and removes eyecandy like motionblur and certain effects, if you're going full Sim though, you'll be "stuck" in your drivers helmet (which can be toggled off with a button press) sitting in the correct viewpoint of your car and the contact to the road is spot on as far as I can tell. So short answer is: the games handling is as forgiving or as hardcore as you want it to be, long answer: If you go full sim, what I highly recommend as it offers the best challenge and realistic feeling, you can literally feel the car riding on the very last edge of grip through a corner and you can feel "your ass coming" as you're going over the threshold of grip. In other games, also Gran Turismo, this transition was sometimes too snappy and quick, which it hardly is in real life. In real life you feel the rubber of the tires gripping, biting, into the asphalt as you go through a high-G corner - with your ass. Of course this is hard to simulate in a game only using a vibrating controller and visual/aural clues on the screen, but I played extensive amounts of Forza 1-4, the simbin games on PC, iRacing and Gran Turismo 6 (Platinum there) so I have my fair share of knowledge and I have to say: Prioject Cars nailed it so well. For me, personally, best visuals, best sound, best handling, best options/features (mechanical failures, pitstops, tires and fuel, team options, endurance races, ...) I've ever seen in a racing game.
I'm very confident Slightly Mad Studios made the transition of Project Cars from PC to Consoles a smooth and shiny one, also the track selection is phenomenal! I haven't played it with a gamepad yet, always used my G27 on PC, but I'm confident that they made the best from the controller options, also... for a game like this, it's worth forking out for a racing wheel, making it THAT much better.
Hope that answered your question,
to be fair, I have to say, I'm very biased, but that shouldn't matter as you can tailor your experience to your liking in a plethora of ways, moreso than in any other game to date! You're in for a treat! Hope to see you on the track!

@scollurio thanks for your in-depth answer! This game's definitely going on my must have list. Only thing keeping it from being day one for me now then is The Witcher 3. Don't quite have the money for both at the moment.
so psyched for this game! I was very disappointed in GT5 a couple of years back. all those delays and in the end it was just like GT4 (or 3 or 2 or 1) but with prettier graphics. And I never even bothered with GT6. But I've been following Project Cars for a while now and it sounds like this will game will totally fill the sim racer void on console for me!
