@KratosMD ah. I think a similar upgrade to FF7 instead of a full blown remake would be a similar mistake, despite some people saying they'd prefer that to be the case.
The graphics are a real turn off to me. Charming pixel art trumps uninspired polygons any day.
@KratosMD I am liking it and I think that the reviewer just doesn't appreciate it. I will agree with the music though, the remixed title screen music is great really gets you in the mood, but after that the rest of the music just falls flat. However in the options menu you can switch it to the original sound track which I am not sure the reviewer knew about or even mentioned.
The game play I find to be much smoother then the original but that's probably due to the technology. On the SNES there was slowdowns when there where to many characters on the screen where as this version there isn't any.
As.for the voice overs yeah they are cheesy as hell but you kinda expect that and yeah their lips don't move but come on was anyone expect voice acting and lip movement like say Uncharted. This remake is mainly for the fans plain and simple if you never played this game keep in mind this is a game that came out during the 16 bit era and refelcts that, you aren't going to get a FF XV style game here.
One plus to this version you don't need to get an adapter to be able to play 3 players

Played a bit more since my last posting. I really like how grinding magic is alot quicker in this version compared to the original, makes it alot less annoying. Also I have noticed the A.I. is alot better when it comes to controlling the other characters.

Started this earlier in the week and I'm just over 2 hours in.
I have not played the original so I don't have a reference point, but I have mixed early impressions.
I'm on vita & there are loading screens everywhere (short, but they add up), my AI companions keep getting stuck in places, accessing the menu is a pain and it's damn near broken in places.
Defeated enemies respawn once you move out of an area. Fine.
Clearing out enemies to speak to Neko (Save) and then respawning at that spot after falling in battle only to be peppered to death by arrows. Not so fine.
Issues aside, I'm enjoying it. Just expected a bit better from Square given the price tag.

@Fight_Teza_Fight Everything you described is just like the original. Yes enemies respawn but it's handy for leveling up weapons and spells. As for the AI getting stuck can switch to them to get them unstuck using the dpad.
Also if you are interested the first game in the series Adventure of Mana is on sale this week on the Vita. High recommend that if you are enjoying this one.

@Tasuki Thanks for the heads up, but I already beat Adventures of Mana on Vita.
Almost got the platinum in that game actually. Only missed out on one missable helm and leveling all stats to 99.

@Fight_Teza_Fight Oh nice. I never got a chance to play that version before I sold my PSTV but I did play the original version on Gameboy and the remake on GBA but I heard the Vita version is the best.

So to make it in a proper way. (the signature can not be HTML...Can it ?)
I wanted to share first my wr on the remake of Secret of Mana. I have completed the game in 2h30, and you can find the link in my signature.
I wanted to post this for 2 objectives. The first I admit it, was to promote a bit my performance, as you can see with my number of view it is not easy for everybody...Even for a game sold at probably more than 600000 units (the remake only). With some luck I can make it to 300 lol...
The second idea was to introduce to some people the idea that speedrunning the remake feels really cool, much more than the original. It is hard like every speedruns, depending on where you set your goal, but it is pleasant really. I would ofcourse answer any questions regarding the remake's speedrun activity. And if I can motivate some people to attempt the challenge, I will have done something usefull maybe.

Add to this...5 runs, for what I had not submited, the last one still not updated and the first of all which took me more than 16 hours.
So ~18 completed I would say, and a total of 100-120 attempts because I had still a very low success rate for the first segment until the tiger 1 months ago, I had to study this a lot to reach ~40% of success on the first 20min.

@Amnesia_TC lol sounds painful. Well done, but like I said in my edited post I wouldn't be able to do that. Don't you just want to play something else after a while?
