I didn't even know that lol! I have the Shattered Gauntlet of Ages equiped and upgraded to level 8, and I have most of those enhancements equiped... but not on the right gear it seems...
I guess I expected more story connection with the older games. To begin with it is not really explained how Kratos left Greece and went to Midgard (or how Tyr travelled). What "bothers" me more though is how all those gods "coexist". We have Greece and Midgard each with its own Cosmogony and Afterlife that should not really coexist in the same "earth". Also (according to Mirmir anyway) Odin is a tyrant and seems strange he didn't go after Zeus or even Kratos after he married an enemy and because he has "godkill" powers.
@belmont Considering the realms of Yggdrasil aren't even in the same 'dimension', we don't really know how all of this connects to the 'rest of the world'. Considering even the Aesir couldn't travel to Jotunheim, it's kinda hard to tell how it all connects. But I don't think that really matters in the end. It's a bit of a reboot anyway, so a bit of creative freedom and imagination is necessary I think.

I though I read an interview of the director that claimed that Greece and Norway has geometrical distance in the usual sense. And surely it doesn't seem as a reboot since Mirmir and the Witch are aware of who Kratos is.
Edit: Found it
Barlog: Right [laughs]. But yeah, it is a consistent single universe. As we start to look at these things, there’s little bits, here and there, that let you know. Like, Tyr, had connections to a lot of other pantheons. And there is reference, in Norse mythology, of gods interacting with Roman gods. It’s very small, it’s very minimal, in their connections, but it shows that there was an awareness. And whether that awareness was post-the time where they were moving the pagans away from the pagan religion by having the mythology slightly modified, to kind of move towards Christian religion… I think it is fascinating to imagine that at all times, there [are] these connections to every one of these locations.
@belmont The game doesn't take place in Norway though, or Scandinavia for that matter. Midgard isn't a real place, so we have no idea how all of it is connected.
How good was that ending? I can't wait for the sequel. I actually NEED it now! Knock, Knock
Who's There? Thor?! Kay, see you in 5 years .
Atreus is Loki?! The heck .
I thought for sure, Faye's ashes were going to resurrect the Giants.
Also what did that final painting depict at Jotunheim? I couldn't make sense of it by the time the camera panned away.
I thought it would show an image of Atreus killing Kratos. Didn't Zeus himself say that his own son would kill him one day?
Game was incredible. Ooof I think it's the best game on the PS4. Is it my favourite game though...? Going to have to mull it over.
There weren't as many memorable boss fights for me. The Baldur fights were phenomenal, but compared to GOW3 it lacked the larger than life 'epicness' (a limitation of the 'one shot' camera?).
I'm fine with that though as the game excels in other areas. Just like Horizon there's room for growth here, despite being a supremely polished and incredibly put together game.
God of War is going to be very hard to top.

@KratosMD Ahh so that’s what that was. Think I best brush up on my Nordic mythology!
Yes that’s what I thought as well. It would be fitting for Kratos to die at the hands of Atreus & it would be great if Zeus ‘prophecy’ came true.

On the back of this thread I have been reading up on Loki.
Those Norse writers were all kinds of messed up man.

So I've finished the story. Epic last fight with Baldur. I see how things have been left open for a sequel with Odin, Thor and Feya as potential antagonists in the sequels.
And Atreus is Loki. Wow, really didn't see that one coming. I did wonder why he hadn't been mentioned but Odin and Thor had. Thanks to the MCU I feel well versed in Ragnarok and all that.
Sorry if this has already gone over, but I don't really wanna read the rest of this thread until I'm completely done with the game.
@JohnnyShoulder MCU is hardly a source for Norse mythology. It's worth reading up on actual Norse mythology, because I think you'll be able to pick up details in God of War many people missed.
Ok so finished the story (finally). I've done everything except for the Valkyries, a few ravens and artefacts plus the two additional realms. Think I am going to drop the difficulty because the Valkyries are bar stewards and don't want to spend ages taking them on.
Overall though, wonderful wonderful game. I was so glad I had played through GoW 1-3 beforehand. While you didn't need to, I thought it gave extra resonance for the glimpses to Kratos' past, particularly the Blades of Chaos and Athena cameo. I still kind of want to know how Kratos managed to get to Midgard and meet his lady wife but wasn't really necessary I guess. Great foreshadowing at the end. I'm a bit confused as to why the giants were all dead as I thought they had a part to play in Ragnarok but who knows.I am glad they didn't try and cram in Thor and Odin and really made me hungry for more!
So toying with going for the Plat but I also have a lot of other games stacking up behind. Will see how it goes!
Tip for the Valkyries: when they first awaken and their wings open you can damage em. I usually start with all my rune powers then switch weapon and use the rune powers for that weapon. When you get to low health use your Spartan Rage. When you die use resurrection stone and you will have full spartn rage meter again.
They are still difficult though and the hardest thing is to keep track of em as they can fly across the arena very quickly. Their red unblockable moves are usually highly telegraphed so you can dodge outta way.
Also spam the boys arrows when they are hovering and they will usually drop down.
