@consolfreak1982: Hi, how does the loot drop work when playing with teammates:

1) Do they get the same loot as you when you defeat NPCs?

2) When you kill a rogue agent, does everyone get that agent's loot?

Huntin' monsters erryday.

consolfreak1982

@WanderingBullet:
1) no - every player gets his own loot and it differs, so your buddy gets something else than you
2) havent been able to check on this in game, but after what Ive heard and read - if you kill a rogue agent one can pick up his loot, exp/coins, and this means only one player can pick it up - treasure chests are shared, so if there is one, every player can have that loot

@consolfreak1982: Ah, I see. Thank you for explaining.

Edit: I wonder if that rogue agent's loot only appears on the screen of the person that killed him/her.

It does get very repetitive. But i'm still enjoying playing it, that's what counts right?
Besides, i want to find all of April Kelleher's journal pages because i'm intrigued by her story.

@ApostateMage: well, yeah, to be honest its all "go there and shoot - repeat", but I honestly dont know when I had that much fun in coop in any recent game since "Diablo3", high level battles are so tense! playin with your friends in coop is just so rewarding because you need strategy/tactics and must constantly communicate with each other. And the search for loot is extremely addicting too - new gear, better weapons, weapon and item mods and skins, blueprints for crafting - and comparing stats and attributes create a need to hunt for even more better stuff.
The Story is - to be honest - completely useless for me. I see this game as an MMO RPG with Cover Based Shooter Gameplay and just pick up journals and stuff for the exp. But maybe I should dive into it as well some time ... but Im too busy grinding and looting

@consolfreak1982: dude you put a loaf of cons in your positives list...
I'm still waiting for someone to comprehensively explain to me how this is a great shoot n loot, how the rpg elements are actually interesting and how the story is interesting. I'll wait for the reviews.

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi: By all accounts, the Story is quite generic and the side quests are cut and paste for each area. The RPG elements are more akin to Diablo 3 although you can't necessarily spec into one specific area - like a pure med build. The campaign can be completed within 15hours or so but that depends on how many side quests you opt for. As it stands at the moment, the only end game content is replaying story missions at higher difficulty and very difficult to play solo although there is matchmaking if you want. The other aspect is of course the Dark Zone.
If you are looking for exotic looking gear, weapons etc, then the 'realistic' design doesn't allow for that. Its impossible to tell if your knee pads are level 1 or 30 by looking as the outfits/weapons etc are quite generic but are in keeping with the world.
By all accounts, its the 'world' that is the most stand-out and impressive feature of this game. Everything else is relatively generic - Characters, 3rd person shooting mechanics, story, RPG elements etc. The main thing that makes this unique is the way these are combined and the setting/environment Ubisoft have created.

To quote 1 review...
"It's a shame that more attention wasn't paid to The Division's story. The side missions didn't need to be as repetitive as they are, and that's disappointing. But there's a real foundation here that makes this worth paying some attention to, provided you don't intend to just shoot your way through the missions by yourself."

Its currently averaging around 8.1-8.4 on Metacritic 'critics' reviews if that helps.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi: i didnt put a single con in my pro list ? please be more accurate on what you mean
The game is all about what you call "shoot and loot", the story is interesting but all in all rather forgetable, the rpg elements are rather deep (there are no real classes or so but you can unlock and equip certain skills that get you more towards "Tank", "DD" or "Healer") and rewarding (for example the weapon and eqipment crafting and modification, comparing stats, ...) - what really pushes you forward is the hunt for better equipment (loot) and the tense and tactical battles (especially on high level difficulty in coop).
Cant understand why so many people are disappointed - maybe they had way too high and unrealistic expectations or idk.
Sure, one can say "missions are repetitive, so is the gameplay, all you do is go there and shoot wave after wave" - and yeah, its true! The RPG elements could be "deeper", the story could be "more engaging", and everything could be "bigger and better".
But I can tell you - even if the game gets repetitive, its fun.
Its addicting, it looks and plays great, it has an amazing coop, and the mixture of "Gears of War"-gameplay with RPG elements is just so damn good.
Complaining over this and that is nitpicking

Not likely, I'll wait for some proper reviews and more likely I'll wait to rent a complete edition.

Victor_Meldrew

WanderingBullet

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi: Question, when you rent a game aren't they essentially used games? So when you rent a complete edition do you still have access to the DLCs?

IGN recently finished their review of the Division - 6.7....

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi: Oh, apart from Helldivers, personally I haven't come across/bought any GOTY or complete editions where the DLCs were stored in the disc.

@BAMozzy Yeah, I saw and it was only yesterday where three people from the IGN UK Podcast were endorsing the game. This review was done by IGN US if I'm not mistaken.

@WanderingBullet: I'm probably wrong in assuming as such, generally when the complete or goty edition arrives I've moved on. Business wise it wouldn't make sense to include it on disc either. I guess it comes down to if a second hand copy and a season pass are cheaper, they probably always are.

@BAMozzy: I had a quick read, confirms why I'll pass, the main story and dark zone sound fun and the rpg elements also sound worthwhile, I don't really want to bother trying to get friends to play. Reading the review made me wanna go back to Destiny.

Victor_Meldrew

BAMozzy

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi: I like Destiny. I think Destiny though would suit the deeper RPG elements better than the division because of the setting and the fact its not grounded in realism. To me the Dark Zone is what appeals to me the least - particularly as a mainly Solo player. In general I don't have an issue with going Rogue on other players but I do think its wrong that you can or (or have this done to you) by your own squad! Squad v Squad would be far better and 'accidental' occurrences would be minimalised - squad mates running in front of you, into your explosives or other equipment etc wouldn't trigger this.

I admit I didn't have an issue with Destiny's year 1 DLC. I was 'happy' (content maybe a better word) to pay for the season pass. I know it was criticised for 'lack of content' but considering most DLC packs each was effectively 2 packs in one. Ot offered 4 MP maps (like other FPS shooters that charge around £12 for) as well as PvE content that others charge around £12 for. I know the missions, Strike(s) and Raid didn't add up to a 'lot' but all the new gear (including a complete raid set of weapons and armour for each character), Characters (like Eris and the Queen and ranking up your rep with them - extra bounties etc) as well as all the new vendor gear and even 'public' events (Blades of Crota, Urzok, Pack of Wolves etc) added more than the sum of its individual parts and provided me personally with 'hundreds of hours' without even playing the MP. That being said, I do feel it was 'almost' compulsory and those that didn't buy it lost out on Daily Missions, Weekly Heroic/Nightfalls opportunity to reach the level cap. I know Destiny also received 'criticism because 'some' areas were accessible before the DLC launched - even if the had NO enemies, activities and some parts had a visual make-over on release of the DLC). The Division too has areas that are accessible now (via glitches) that will be added via DLC. I do wonder though if it will feel 'compulsory' in the same way that Destiny's did. I don't know what their long term (yr2 onwards) plan is either - will it be worth waiting until next year, buy yr2 and get ALL of yr1 free (or at least heavily discounted) like Destiny?

I will probably get the Division at some point, when its cheaper, primarily for the PvE content and can 'plod' at my own leisure. My Son owns it too (as do a lot of friends) so I could probably team up quite easily and I know that 'many' won't go rogue on me. As the summer is looking a bit light on releases, as usual, I may pick it up then. I don't exactly have a lot lined up at the moment and 'Destiny' is empty too (I half expected Bungie to add something 'substantial' to keep some players and rival the Divisions launch) but I can't justify its cost at the moment.
