Platinum #86 - God of War: Ascension - really surprised by this as I was expecting to just be going through the motions but ended up really enjoying it. Required a hard playthrough but was quite manageable for the most part, although the trials of archimedes was a nasty spike in difficulty (that I’ve since found out is quite notorious).
@colonelkilgore Congrats on that plat, I'd heard that's a tough one! I tried to get into the original GoW games after playing GoW 2018 but they just didn't do it for me. Perhaps one day I'll take another look.
@colonelkilgore
Nice one, first plat of the month! I only ever played GOW 3 and the reboot and enjoyed both of them we!l enough. How's that one compare? I guess it's back to the hack and slash style of 3?

@render@sorteddan so I’d never played any GoW games prior to 2018 but having loved pretty much everything about that, I thought it might be worth my time checking out the back catalogue. I’d never even played any ‘character-action’ games (I hate the name that they’ve given this sub-genre btw) as I’d always just thought that they were button-bashers… but it turns out that there is a bit more to them than that in fairness. I’ve still got GoW 3 left to play (& plat) out’ve the series but I’ve grown to quite like the game-type. So I’ve bought up a load of other games like the Devil May Cry games, Dante’s Inferno, the Darksiders games, Bayonetta, Vanquish etc. to slot in here and there once I’ve finished with these.
@colonelkilgore
Well I played Darksiders 2 years ago - before my completionist obsession took hold - and yeah, it does have some similarities in gameplay style with GOW3 - albeit on a lighter note story wise. Weirdly never got around to 3 despite having it my library from PS+ for years now. I would be more interested in the more recent Darksiders Genesis but that's because I heard if you play as the second character it plays more like a twin-stick shooter game!
Also have read/heard only good things about DMCV so that's on my keep an eye on radar for future PS5 purchase.
@sorteddan I’m really looking forward to Darksiders 2 by all accounts it sounds like a proper hidden gem.
In regards to the Devil May Cry games (as well as Metal Gear Rising and Vanquish) they are supposedly some of the hardest platinums out there. So my plan atm is to chip away at the ‘easier-to-plat’ character-action games and hopefully my skills will continue to sharpen along the way, so when I get to the 10/10 platinum difficulty games… I’ll have at least half a chance.
First was Spongebob SqaurePants, Battle for Bikini Bottom, enjoyed it, nothing special but was fun enough, some annoying camera angles at times but overall a fun enough game to plat.
2nd was Assassin's Creed Oddesy, I completed the game last year but had 2 trophies left for the plat, all underwater locations and upgrade the whole of the ship to Legendary, I was just burnt out at the time as I'd put over 150 hours in, but over the course of the last week or so I've spent an hour here and there mopping them up. Glad when it finally popped.
@MaulTsir Nice work. I've heard a few people getting the Spongebob one recently. Looking forward to taking a look at that sometime. The AssCreed one sounds like a bit of a chore though.
I got the Platinum in a game called A Sketchbook About Her Sun which took 30 minutes and only required occasional presses of X. Ordinarily, this would be absolutely shameful behaviour, but it wasn't one of those lol here's a platformer and you get the platinum for doing two levels of it games. It was a really unusual game that really left me thinking about it.
It's basically an animated short that lasts for around half an hour while dreampop/shoegaze music by a band called Red Ribbon plays. So if you like unusual or experimental titles and narrative led things with minimal - in this case, basically zero - gameplay, then there are worse ways to spend half an hour. And if you also like dreampop/shoegaze - which is like one of my best things - then that will help a lot.
I'm really glad I didn't have to review this one because I liked it quite a bit but I have absolutely no doubt I'd be massively in the minority on this one.
I have 22 platinums working on wwe2k22 plat and it's also my first wrestling game in over 20 years I've played 🤣. I only go for plats if it's a game I enjoy with some kind of challenge. Sifu platinum now is much more attainable with the new update so I see that percentage going up quickly for that game... Same thing for returnal... Games that were stupid hard but really fun are even better now.
I find myself burning out chasing virtual trophies so I'm kinda over it now... Took me over ten years to get 22 plats so ya 😂
"Shoegaze (originally called shoegazing and sometimes conflated with "dream pop")[10][2] is a subgenre of indie and alternative rock characterized by its ethereal mixture of obscured vocals, guitar distortion and effects, feedback, and overwhelming volume.[1][11] It emerged in Ireland and the United Kingdom in the late 1980s among neo-psychedelic groups[2] who stood motionless during live performances in a detached, non-confrontational state.[1][12] The name comes from the heavy use of effects pedals, as the performers were often looking down at their pedals during concerts.[13]"
