@Splat TW3 was like that at first. I bought it day one, and there were a number of bugs. I put it down for about a month, and thankfully, CDPR worked hard to resolve a lot of them, and it was awesome after that point.
Historically, I've bought the AC games a few months after that come out, and played them after most of the bugs are fixed.
Yeah, not surprising that a next gen game loads quicker on PS5 cause of ssd.
But I'm surprised that the XSX has those FPS dips and all that screen tearing considering all their marketing on the power of their console. Maybe XSX is harder to code for, not sure but it's looking good so far for PS.
@Scarla88 I’ve read that XSX has a new set of APIs (DX12 I guess? Not that new) whereas PS5 has the same APIs as PS4. That, along with ps5 dev kits being sent out earlier has lead to more optimized ps5 versions.
What will be interesting is the ML Microsoft has mentioned. If XSX can enable anything like DLSS then they’re gonna win hands down - unless sony can too.
@Splat good to hear. I had made up to buy cyberpunk first, but after watching gameplay it looks like it’ll be all talking and RP again, less action - where AC Valhalla looks like the right mix of gameplay to talking, even if the writing isn’t as good.
I really want fights like in TW3 or AC, and I want to explore, and discover, and solve puzzles, and I truly enjoy sidequests and how they fill out the world of the game. I also LOVE crafting, especially if its deep and customizable. And of course a good, deep story that's smart and fun.
@Unlucky13 Have you played Dragon Age: Inquisition? Dragon’s Dogma? Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning? Or Monster Hunter World? Those are a few that came to mind when you described the kind of game you like. I can vouch for the first 3, but haven’t played MHW except for the demo and the crafting tutorial just blew my mind and scared me off from the game. For me, a reasonable amount of crafting is okay, but if it gets too deep and complex then I get frustrated by it. 😄
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Th3solution Yes, I'm a huge Dragon Age fan. I've played Inquisition through three times. Its so depressing that EA has screwed with Bioware so much and we only got one game this generation. They had plans to do so much with the series, and now we might be lucky to get one more game.
I have a few good friends who I spoke to about Monster Hunter, and they said its mostly boss fights, and thats not my thing. The graphics and play style of Dragon's Dogma didn't appeal to me when I researched it, and Amalur was said to be buggy, and the company had lots of issues, so I stayed away.
I enjoyed playing Greedfall last year. Its sort of a AA level game trying really hard to be Dragon Age. Its limited in quality and scope, but their intentions were really good. Sort of like a great PS3 game than a contemporary PS4 game, but for $30 its worth it.
@Unlucky13 Yeah, I thought about that with MHW - I think the combat is less like the open world exploration type RPG and more like fewer large boss battles, so it’s a different vibe. Its just that I get the impression that crafting is just such a huge part of it, and I think games seems to focus less on complex crafting schemes nowadays. When I get PS5 I might try MHW since it’s on the PS Plus Collection; one of the few games in the collection that I don’t already have.
I’ll try not to derail the thread too much, but slightly back on topic with AC Valhalla - one of the best AC-like games with the exploration, side quests, quick-action combat, and really good narrative is Ghost of Tsushima. Definitely a must for people who like the AC playstyle. The only part it’s missing is the crafting isn’t very complex, but there is resource gathering and armor/weapon upgrades. For me, it was just the right balance of that — less time spent buried in menus shifting resources and items than there is in AC Origins, DA: I, or HZD.
As for Valhalla — I’ll probably play it on PS5. Hearing thing about the PS4 performance that has me wanting to wait. Also, I still have Odyssey in my PS4 backlog.
@Matroska No - you pledge to one and the other is still available - its like picking which region you wish to tackle first. You can essentially do some missions in one area and some from the other - the pledging though keeps the quest list a bit cleaner - instead of having two sets of main missions, you get just the main missions from the area you pledged to...

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
@InvaderJim That’s a good sign, I was amazed when I put Black Flag in my PS4 and... it just played off the disc. Only a few seconds until I could play. These install times off discs have been making them increasingly obsolete.
