I really wanted one, but it's the same price of a PS5 in Brazil, sometimes even more expensive. No way I'll pay for a streaming device 2-3x the price of a Nintendo Switch and same price as PS5.
It's a very interesting accessory, though. Hopefully the price goes down soon.
@RenanKJ That's too bad mate. Here in Sweden it's priced 50 percent more than other countries. I think I've read that it should retail for €200 but it actually costs €300 here, which was just about acceptable for me. Hopefully it'll go down drastically in price where you live so that you get to enjoy it. I've had mine for about a month now and it's such a great device. Being able to play any game I own on PS5 (with the exception for VR games and such obviously) on a handheld device is so convenient for me.
The only thing I don't like about it compared to the Switch is that it's a tad bit too big and heavy for me to hold comfortably. So I actually prefer to play on the Switch sometimes. But other than that, I like it a lot. It's really nice to have the option to play PS4 and PS5 games on a handheld device. I just wish I could find a fitting game to play on it already lol. I recently played Resident Evil Revelations but that game has terrible aiming so I didn't want to play it on the Portal when it was hard enough to aim with the DualSense.
@DulyNoated Well I was planning on using it a lot next weekend when Persona 3: Reload comes out as turn-based JRPGs are perfect on a handheld device. Other than that, I haven't had the chance to play many games on the device yet.
Still thinking about getting this, but still can’t find one available without paying a markup. PS Direct is out of stock since before Christmas and if you go to sellers online it looks like you’ll have to pay a scalper about $325. Uh, no. Surely they’ll get the supply back up.

@Th3solution If I were to get a portable device, I would get a steam deck as with a bit of jiggery poggery, you can get it to do what the portal does and it does more for your bucks too.

@JohnnyShoulder I didn’t realize that you could jimmy-rig the Steam Deck to stream from the PS5. That’s interesting.
I don’t have any games on PC. I don’t even have a Steam account. So the native gaming aspects of the Deck don’t really appeal to me. Although I’d never count out PC gaming in the future, but for now my sole gaming ecosystem remains PlayStation, just by virtue of inertia over the years with a huge PSN library, and lack of time to spend elsewhere.
So the higher price point is tough for me to justify, although I realize the feature set and functionality is leagues better on the Deck vs the Portal. Still, am I going to send emails, do office document management, web browsing, watch videos, or other “PC” types of activities on a handheld gaming device when I have my cellphone right there that can do most of that too? I doubt it. But I’m not really a sophisticated PC computer guy. Even the Vita’s rudimentary extra features like the camera and messaging features I almost never used, and that was before phones were as complex as they are now.
Nevertheless, there’s no arguing the attractive suite of options the Steam Deck offers, and the OLED 90 Hz screen is tempting. At $550 a pop it’s hard to pull the trigger though.
Of course today they drop the article about a Vita 2 being in development and so now I’m wondering if I should just wait for that. 😅

@Th3solution Nether did I until Dustin from Sacred Symbols mentioned it recently.
I don't game on PC either, but I would start to dabble if I had a Deck.
I've just bought a new tablet, so can use remote play on that. I don't have much use for as I live on my own. I would only use at my parents, but have not tried it yet.

@JohnnyShoulder I must have missed that on SS, or I’m not to that episode yet — I am several weeks behind. I did hear Colin glowing about how much he liked the Portal after he first got it.
It’s true that if I got a Steam Deck I’d definitely start looking into the PC space. Apparently you can get some great deals on Steam.
Alternatively I’ve considered the Backbone. I think I can get one for like $50, which is a really low barrier to entry. The form factor just doesn’t look as good to me though

Well I've finally found a must-play title for the Portal, which is Persona 3 Reload. I've already written down my thoughts in the P3R thread but I'll also share them here:
"I can't forget to mention how amazing it is to play this game on PlayStation Portal. It's like a completely different experience! The game looks absolutely crisp and vibrant on the smaller screen and it still runs so smooth. This is how Persona games are meant to be experienced, i.e. on a handheld device. That's how I played Persona 4 Golden. Unfortunately, I didn't experience Persona 5 like that and maybe I would've liked it more if I could've played it on a handheld. But yeah, it's an absolute must to have a Portal for Persona 3 Reload."
So here I am stuck in yet another hotel room with work, brought the portal along with me, 3 bar 4G signal, A Plagues Tale is running nicely apart from the old network hiccup, very pleased with my purchase
If you don't like it, don't play it, and shut yo damn mouth
Omg, I’m such an idiot. I just happened to check the PS Direct store in the middle of my day and saw they restocked Portals today and even put one in my cart but then was busy working so I figured I’d just buy it after work.
Now they’re sold out again.
Sheesh I waited like 2 months for them to restock and they sold in less than a day. So mad at myself for hesitating.
