I appreciate that no one may know the answer to this one, but does anyone know if PS4 backwards compatibility will stretch to being able to play PS4 discs on the PS5?
If you own PS4 games on Disc, it will be essential to put them into the PS5 disc drive so the console can access the license to enable you to play. That is the only purpose of a the Disc - at least once you have installed the software onto your Storage.
Digital games will have the license on your account but the game will need to know you have a valid license to play any game. It stops people from buying the game on disc, installing the software and then selling the disc and still having access because the software is now installed.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
@scargman Yes. If you own the standard PS5 SKU, you'll be able to play physical PS4 games. Even the website goes on to state they'd be enhanced in some fashion with that Game Boost feature.
They said "overwhelming majority" so it doesn't extend to the ENTIRE library, but it's safe to say almost all of them are going to be backwards compatible at launch straight out of the box.
