Topic: PS5 randomly turns on by itself

@GChris I should have posted it here, but I completely forgot. It was definitely the remote. I tried everything possible and the only time the ps5 stopped doing it was when I pulled the batteries from the media remote. I have no idea why, but it’s definitely the remote. We agree on that for sure. Thanks for the reply 🙂

Can also confirm it is the PS5 media remote. Have had the same problem and figjre it out a few days ago. Tried to post on reddit but mods deleted it lol.

Connected to a LG CX OLED. So different TV which means not likely a compatibility issue and the bug is in the media remote itself.

I wonder how many people are having this problem and just think its updates or something. Mine was starting up every 2 or 3 hours before.

@spoof I changed the batteries for the media remote and haven’t had any issues yet. Let’s hope it stays that way 🙂

@Sheppard thanks for the update. That thing was too expensive to just set to the side and forget about. I'll try some different batteries and will update if it starts again.

I've noticed when mine does this it asks who is using this media remote so I'm wondering if the media remote is causing this issue. Do the people this is happening to also have media remotes?

Mine’s started doing this too... I think (but could well be wrong as it makes no sense) that switching the TV to the PS5’s ‘input’ (HDMR) does it, even though that should have nothing to do with switching console on.

Just you wait and see that this will be the next reason that the media and GA use to call for Jim Ryan’s head... while if Series X’s were doing it, well let’s just ordain Uncle Phil now!

@colonelkilgore Yeah, mine did it for the first time tonight. I exited my TV app on the smart TV (It’s a fairly new Samsung Q60R) and the PS5 automatically turned on and the input changed to the HDMI 1 that it’s connected to. So did we figure out how to disable this? It will be really annoying to have my PS5 turn on everytime I switch apps on my TV. I searched my TV settings and couldn’t see anything obvious to disable. Seems like a TV thing though rather than a PS5 thing. Any advice?

@Th3solution not aware of any fix, got a feeling that it might take a system update though.

@Th3solution @colonelkilgore Have you tried the suggestion on comment #2?

@JohnnyShoulder I hadn’t even read it bud. But @Abarth_71 seems to know the issue, so I’ll prob try that first and if that doesn’t work I’ll try suggestion #2.

@Abarth_71 That’s finally what I did last night to be able to turn the TV off. I had to manually try to open into another HDMI and then exit out of that and then the PS5 finally didn’t turn on by itself. I’ll get around to experimenting with the settings later today like is shown in that article and with the earlier comment in #2. If nothing else, I can use the workaround with always trying to activate another HDMI port at the end of each game session, but that seems a little annoying. Of note — my BluRay player also does this. It’s an old Samsung and I couldn’t figure out how to not have it turn on everytime I turn the TV on so I finally just unplugged it, and now when I want to watch a BD I just plug it in. Thankfully, I only used the stupid thing about once a month, at most. So annoying, but I couldn’t find any settings to fix that problem. Hopefully Sony’s fix works for the PS5 because I’m not keen on plugging and unplugging that every time.

Mine has done it three times in the last 24 hours. It's connected to an LG CX into HDMI 1. I finally switched it off completely instead of leaving it in rest mode. I'll see how that goes. I also have the media remote as mentioned above but I'm not sure if that's the culprit.

Dark mode or go home.

Same issue. I just removed the batteries from the remote and it hasn't switched on by itself since. The batteries felt empty so that must have been it. I think it's crazy that the remote batteries lasted less than 6 months.

I disabled HDMI link and I haven’t had a phantom turning on or off of my PS5 since. That appears to have fixed my problem.
