@Bentleyma Nice. What kind of monitor are you going for? I've never gamed on one, but hopefully it will make your new console shine

Also, has anyone got any plans for what games they are going to try out first when the Pro rolls out? What are people most looking forward to?

I'm quite lucky in the fact I've missed out a bunch of Sony exclusives, although they would look great anyway, they will also get the most robust support initially on pro. But there's also some third party titles I'm waiting to see their improvements on pro.

Hogwarts Legacy, TLoU and maybe Horizon FW will be my first downloaded to the pro, I think. But AC Shadows and KCDII should hopefully benefit quite nicely when they come out.

When it seems you're out of luck.

@Ravix Ha, I literally just edited my post to include what monitor I'm getting!

I think the first game I'll try is Until Dawn. I finished it yesterday, but I want to go for more trophies, so I'm going to wait for the Pro to do that. I also have Horizon Zero Dawn pre-ordered, so that'll be a good one to try.

@Bentleyma ah, I have limited monitor knowledge, but I think that is a 1440p one, so not technically 4K, if that helps. It depends what you want most out of it, I guess. Monitors usually focus on miniscule response times for competitive gaming, so it will have that element, I guess.

You also probably want to look out for something with hdmi 2.1

Hopefully we can summon some people here who have a good knowledge of what monitor to pair with a console

@Ravix I have limited knowledge, too, but yeah looks like 1440p. I think that's good enough for me tbh. Definitely going to be a step up from my 1080p TV. I didn't want to spend loads on a monitor after pre-ordering the Pro. I'll just be happy to play games at a high frame rate in the best graphical quality in a better resolution than I am atm.

@Ravix For me I'll be saving Dragon Age: Veilguard for Christmas morning. That has some Pro support planned.
Other than that, I had been saving additional playthroughs of the following for 2025, but they all have Pro support too;

  • Demon's Souls
  • Forbidden West
  • Dragon's Dogma II
  • FF VII Rebirth
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Stellar Blade (never finished)

All games I wanted to either finish or play again, all with some nice Pro upgrades.

@Bentleyma I think you definitely still need the hdmi 2.1 even for all of the orignal PS5 features, and definitely the Pro.

If I was wearing my sensible hat, which I don't like to do 😅 I'd honestly recommend sticking with a base PS5 and spending that pro money on upgrading the TV/Monitor instead, for something 1440p/4K, maybe Oled if possible, 120hz is all you will need for framerate, HDMI 2.1 for definite, and all of that will make your base PS5 so much better as it is, and then down the line, get the Pro if you still want to spend more on another upgrade.

Otherwise I'm not sure you are getting your money's worth for the actual Pro upgrade itself. And don't want you to regret the big spend.

@Bentleyma post a quick advice topic and see if others can provide any feedback, because atm all I can think is, yes it will obviously be an upgrade, but I think maybe just upgrading the TV would also do that for you if your current set up is 1080p, anyway.

Un-sensible me just wants to say, go big on the tv/Monitor at the same time as the pro, and just don't look at your bills for a while, maybe just burn the bank statements as they get posted through your door without ever looking at them 😅 but that is very bad advice.

Definitely get feedback from people, I say. I'm genuinely not sure what would be best for you, personally 😭

@Ravix I appreciate the input! I can cancel at anytime time if I decide to not pick up the monitor tomorrow. Honestly resolution is the thing I care about the least though, so I might just stick with that monitor. I'm happy with 1440p resolution. I just like the idea of being able to play games at a better frame rate in the best graphically quality. Playing Until Dawn really hammered that in. It looks fantastic, but there are times when it's performance is questionable.

@Shepherd_Tallon oh yes, I'm looking forward to those shiny floors in Hogwarts most of all, haha. Even if they won't be PC levels of shiny, it will do for me (hopefully)

I also made another silly decision to upgrade my headphones again, but I don't think it was all that silly now as I'm gifting my other really good pair to someone and I tested them out on Starfield last night and Neon city sounded superb, and that's Starfield, hardly the best made game. But it felt more alive than it ever had done. And Astrobot sounds figuratively INSANE 🫨

As a fellow appreciator of squeezing as much out of console gaming as possible, what do you usually plump for in terms of audio? Headphones, surround sound, tv speakers etc?

I play every game at 60.

So for me, I'm interested in seeing the image quality improvement at 60 with the Pro.

@Ravix I've been thinking about those Hogwarts floors too tbh 🤤

I'm by no means an audiophile, but I do tend to go for the high end dedicated PlayStation headsets.
There are clearly better value headsets out there, but I like the design of the PS sets and I know they'll give me all of the audio benefits that the console is designed to offer. The 3D audio sounds great on them.
Plus, they have that really convenient PS Link tech that makes swapping between PS5 and Portal very handy.

I also bought the PlayStation ear buds btw, for playing Portal out in the garden. I love them. Again, there are probably better quality buds, but they're dedicated and they sound really good.

As for a speaker system, I never used to bother, but I got a fairly nice sound bar as part of a bundle with my last Bravia, and ever since I first powered it up I've been thinking about getting more into a surround sound setup.
I'll hopefully be in a new house soon. Maybe then I'll do it.

@Shepherd_Tallon I was having a look at the ps5 ear buds vs the regular Sony earbuds too, I might try them out one day if they are decent, as, bud-wise (err), I only have some free ones that came with an lg tv, but they come in handy every so often.

I've never got the hang of the 3D Audio tbh. I thought i'd use it a lot, but it doesn't seem to sound how I'd like it to most of the time. I can't put my finger on why that is though. I might have to experiment with it again. I think currently I brute force the PS5 (lie to it via the menu) to think it is outputting audio to an AV device rather than a tv as that lets me tweak the other settings that are within that menu so I can get the audio on tv or headphones to sound right to me with 3D audio off.

@Ravix bud-wise (err) 😂

The 3D Audio comes to life in VR for me. I've legit had moments where I'd be playing something like Legendary Tales, someone would tap my shoulder to get my attention and when I turn there's nobody there.
There's a split second of that before I remember, "ah yeah, the real world."
Moments like that are as much down to the 3D Audio as the VR2 headset.

So I've cancelled the monitor I was going to get and I'm thinking about getting this one. From what I can tell it's 4K and not much more expensive than the one I was going to buy.

Edit: Bought it now, for better or worse it's the monitor I'm sticking with. It's a step up from what I'm currently using, so I'm happy with it.

I not consider the version "Pro" to any consoles, and this because upgrade is senseless... I mean, console is not a Pc.
Anyway, the positive side is that the technologies at the base of Ps5 pro will help Ps6 project, in similar way Ps4 pro helped the current Playstation.
There is something in particolar that I dont love about Sony philosofies and I speak about Sony's obsession againist the games retail. At the moment the only way for buy a digital copy is buy it by Ps store at 80 euro and this is bad. On Pc the situazion is different because is possible buy the keys across different stores. I'm afraid that Playstion future will be the only console available, with xbox that lose market (whay somebody should buy a microsoft console when is possible get the gamepass on pc and play BETTER Microsoft games?) and Nintendo that play a her game in a market a part.
I'm sure that when the people several years ago asked the "Unique console" them didn't mean anything to similar to the current Playstation.

@Bentleyma hope it's good for you, mate. Hopefully makes the PS5 itself look better in the meantime too 😄

Less than a month until the Pro is out 😱

@L4GANN I get what you mean, in a way, but an upgrade is still an upgrade regardless, and replacing a 4 year old console with a brand new one is something I'd do anyway, pro or not. Just to refresh the life cycle and pass the older one on to someone else.

It's value and price is the real sticking point, is it worth that big a price hike for an upgrade that a lot of people wont benefit from? It is debatable.

But I know I'd benefit from it, as I sit fairly close to a large screen when gaming most of the time, and this generation I have been noticing graphical inconsistencies a lot more, and performance in most third party games has been questionable, at best, on consoles.

Very much agree that it will help the PS6 development, especially with PSSR being improved upon by then after having it being used as a tool to help devs improve their output for a few years, everyone will have a better understanding of where they can push forward and what to hold back.

So since I ordered the PS5 Pro, I'm trying to get the Disc drive but it's not available here in Germany of course and scalpers are selling it for around 190 Euros. So I've been thinking of just selling the 10 disks I have and converting to digital. What do you think y'all? Are you struggling too with this or just made the move to digital?

Dont misunderstand what is happening at the market.. Ps5 Pro is out because the scammers did buy all the consoles by bots.
Ps, I'm very curios to see this PSSR in action... recently on pc i saw a lot to frame generator and the only that work properly is the Dlss, that is a Nvidia technology.

L4GANN

Ravix

@L4GANN early signs are that PSSR is already a fair amount better than FSR2 which is what is making a bunch of third party games look bad. By the time of PS6 it could hopefully be keeping up with DLSS and perhaps surpass it in some ways being specifically designed for the console.

If we see 4K 60fps as pretty much the ceiling console games will ever be, then the better the PSSR gets the more room for graphical improvements their will be without taking the frame rates and we can maybe start to see some cool "next gen" stuff. PS6, for example, isn't going to start trying to target 4K or 1440p 120+FPS, but it will have a better CPU and GPU and PSSR that has been developed over time, so games upscaling to 4K will be able to have much higher settings, you'd think.

I'm quote excited to see what is possible, anyway

@Khwarezm89 I moved to all digital awhile ago and I wouldn't go back to discs. I just like the convenience of it. If you want to buy a game you just go on the store and buy the game and get access to it straight away. It's also nice not having to swap discs. Also, sales happen enough that if you wait long enough you can get most games at a decent price.

@Ravix I'm picking it up after work tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing Silent Hill 2 on it!
