@Th3solution yeah I’m much the same, I like stepping out from my comfort zone and trying different things but I also love returning to the tried and tested. I’ve been playing a couple of games that I have found extremely intense of late (something I do actually like a lot) and have had to reshuffle the schedule so that when I finish up these intense plats that I have some comfort food.
The “Arkham combat” style works great for superhero games like Batman and Spider-Man, particularly the latter where it can incorporate the Spidey sense really well. So saying that, I remember Spider-Man 2: The Movie: The Game having similar mechanics so did they do it before Arkham??
Most of those games do have difficulty options though. But where do you say something isn’t Arkham style? I’d say Ghost of Tsushima uses lots of the same mechanics too. It’s something that I like about gaming now though in that different games and genres aren’t afraid to use bits from others they like rather than being too pigeon holed as something (hence the rise in the action RPG genre too over the years).
@Thrillho yeah it definitely had pre-cursors, I think the pre-Origins Assassins Creed games had a version of the Arkham combat style too, albeit nowhere near as fluid. I’m playing Ghost of Tsushima next month and have been really looking forward to it. I’ve heard great things about it’s combat, so I’ll be interested to see whether it’s variant on the style is appealing to me or not.
@colonelkilgore Ghost runs and looks great on PS5 (to bring this back on track for the thread ). Load times are ridiculously short too and it’s made me think, are the PS5’s loading times the death of the loading screen help and tips?
I’ve really enjoyed it so far but my gaming OCD has seen me spent a LOT of time riding around to reveal the entirety of the map. Combat is fun and uses the above features well but I’m bad at remembering to use the ghost weapons (bombs, knives etc).
I’ve liked playing with Japanese voiceovers and subtitles but it’s sometimes a bit tricky to read subtitles while riding your horse!
I set a goal for myself to reach Demigod rank in MK11 by the end of the week and I’m like 50 points away but every time I get close I lose a couple matches and it’s back to square one (or sometimes to square -2 or something).
Also with more than a week left of the season, I thought I could maybe try to get to the next rank this time but suddenly my week got very busy so I’ll probably just settle on Demigod again.
@ViolentEntity they’re certainly up there, due to my penchant for souls games I find it hard to look past the smorgasbord of From Soft bosses but the MGS ones I’ve encountered thus far are also fantastic. There were a few in Remnant from the Ashes that were brilliant too... nowhere near as consistently awesome as From and Kojima’s selection but sporadically excellent.
@JohnnyShoulder Like I said above, when then tips appear on the loading screen I get to read “when facing a brute, remember..” oh, it’s loaded already.
I reckon fast travel takes under 5s to load which is crazy.
I'm going home in an hour to get right on Ratchet & Clank. It's nice to see a lot of hype for this one. I hope it does well and sells loads. I always thought the series has been underappreciated. It's so good.
@Thrillho Well I'm working from home, so I'm over here typing code on my laptop while the PS5 is just sitting 2 meters away with Ratchet on the home screen
Something tells me I might be getting off work a little early today though
Still been chugging away through FFXIV, just been loving the game and the immersion. The dualsense features they added are subtle but surely additive to the experience. The 3d audio is also very nice when traveling through environments, and being able to hold a solid 60fps is always great.
FF7 Intergrade just gets me super excited for Remake part 2. The upgrade to textures alone is substantial, and one look at the skybox will do it for you. Does a much better job at portraying the scale of Midgar, not to mention 60fps is glorious! Tifa's got some serious competition! Yuffie feels so amazing to play, I really love the way the designed her combat and how fresh she makes traversal feel even though it's all still very linear. Soo I definitely wanted to progress in the story and get better with Yuffie's combat but I got super distracted by this amazing iteration of Fort Condor xD! I will surely be playing at every opportunity they give me. Thankfully I haven't gotten spoiled on anything but I hear there's new additions to the ending of the base game so super looking forward to that.
Just counting down the hours now until I can get on R&C as well. So far I've just played to the very first proper bit so I could take in how good it looks but I'm hoping it plays just as well. I'm probably going to get two saves on the go, one for myself and one for me and the kids.
@RogerRoger Definitely interested to know what it's like so keep us posted. I played the PS4 version about a year ago and did enjoy it but found the controls a little iffy at times and it had a few stuttering issues etc.
@RogerRoger That’s really disappointing to hear but thanks for letting me know. I can’t believe they can actually make something look worse on the new hardware but this proves anything’s possible. Are you going to continue playing do you think?
