@velio84 good to hear your fully invested and it really sounds like you’re gonna see this journey through. Also, well done on Genichiro Ashina. He is a genuine test and a wall that a lot of players fail to overcome. 👏. The ‘big monkey’ fight you mentioned is another 😉.

@Th3solution I can tell not only from this recent post but from previous chats we’ve had, that you are tantalised by the notion of taking another journey through the mind of Miyazaki. And as a huge Miyazaki fan… and someone who appreciates our chats, I love the fact that you’re considering it. It’s true that I think being a souls-vet doesn’t help you at all in Sekiro… but it’s still gonna be extremely tough I’d imagine. Just remembering some of the boss fights gives me pause before advising you to ‘take the leap’.

My suggestion would be to watch a couple of vids on YouTube in regards to what makes the game difficult and some on beginners tips. I’d imagine that you will have one of two reactions to watching these ie either you’ll think “Yeah… not for me!”, or “Do you know what, this makes quite a lot of sense to me… I think I got this!” and make your decision thereafter.

About the price… I know what you mean, anyone would think Nintendo made the damn game! 🤣

So, Control. Interesting game. Gained a few cool abilities and combat is challenging but fun. The story and lore is nuts but nothing compared to Ahti lol. That is one crazy dude!

Some dark humour in it and quite creepy, just watched a Threshold Kids video. That was.... different.

At times it has a Resident Evil vibe, lots of walking slowly around corners and stuff, gun at the ready for the next encounter. Had a cool mission involving flinging trash into a furnace. I think I managed to clear all the boxes before I figured out that I was actually suppose to be burning something else entirely. D'oh. It's a metroidvania of sorts and has a Death Stranding vibe as well. I'm definitely enjoying it although I still can't help but miss Joel and Ellie, always the way when you come off playing a genuinely great game, anything else can't help but feel a little bit lacking.

I was literally one good hit away from beating the celestial challenge in Guilty Gear today but they got me first. Feelsbadman.

@Col_McCafferty The Oldest House is full of some bizarre characters but they give the game a really darkly funny edge to it. I thought the Threshold Kids were properly creepy and reminded me of some videos we saw at the East Germany museum in Berlin.

@Col_McCafferty That’s a pretty good first impression. I think if you enjoy the combat and set up then you’ll grow to like Jesse more and more. I hadn’t thought to compare it to Resident Evil before, but I can see it now. The combat of course is different, having unlimited ammo and all, but the Oldest House being full of spooky twists and turns is a little like rummaging through the Police Station in a way.
But like I say, the character development is nowhere near the Naughty Dog quality, however, by the end I was really attached to Jesse and a couple of the other characters have their moments too. I like how a lot of the dialogue is inside Jesse’s head.

@Th3solution Yeah unlimited ammo is good but easy for enemies to overwhelm you and you need to kill before you can heal, so can't just stay behind cover all the time.

Many encounters I've survived with just a slither of heal left. I hate the ones that dodge the projectiles, they can go to Hell!

@Col_McCafferty There’s a rhythm that you get into with tossing a projectile then emptying a clip, then tossing a couple projectiles while it reload, then emptying a clip, etc, etc. And personally I relied heavily on the shotgun (I forget what it’s called in game) and the base pistol for most of the first half of the game. And honestly even at the end game there are certain bosses where the pistol was still one of the best options. There’s one other weapon that comes about halfway through that I really used a lot, but most of the others weren’t any more useful to me. But in watching online videos some people really made good use of them.

The floating dodging guys are really tricky and quite frustrating, especially if you rely on the telekinesis power, which in general gives the most damage. So it does force you to shoot them with your gun to ‘stun’ them, and then you can follow up with smashing a chunk of concrete or a desk on their head to finish them off 😅

As far as offensive powers though I didn’t figure out until late game that if you level up your telekinetic skill then you can gradually unlock the ability to toss bigger items (and enemies).
I don’t think that’s really a spoiler, but hid it anyways just in case you’re one who doesn’t want to have any assistance, but I would have liked to have realized that because sometimes it helps to be able to throw a forklift at some of the stronger enemies. 😄

But yeah, you’ll need to get used to the dodging enemies because they are present throughout the rest of the game.

@Col_McCafferty The AWE DLC unlocks a really good upgrade to the launch ability which makes combat easier (the new weapon in the DLC is also great).

Sometimes you can still launch items at the dodging enemies, particularly if you’re at close quarters, so the ability isn’t completely defunct. Launching an enemy’s own rocket or grenade back is always fun too.

I encountered a curious bug in Ghost of Tsushima DC. Whenever I’d push the left stick forward, Jin would only walk slowly and not jog. Pushing it diagonally for a second would allow him to speed up to the expected pace. Switching controllers didn’t fix it, restarting the game did.

@velio84 Not yet as I want to buy Kena Bridge of Spirits next week. For now Sonic Colors Ultimate and Tales of Arise are keeping me occupied. I'll probably give it a shot out of curiosity at some point despite it not being my cup of tea though.

@Voltan I had a good one this week as well where I had a certain item that should have been equipped to the horse and it suddenly disappeared as the cutscene started. It was funny hearing the dialogue talking about it even though it wasn't there.

@render Luckily restarting the game and loading the save takes maybe 10 seconds. Fast travel loading times in the PS5 version are actually absurd. There's literally no noticeable difference to just exiting the menu.

Voltan

render

@Voltan Agree, the loading is insanely instant. It was good on the PS4 but the PS5 takes it to the next level.

@Voltan @render Can't wait to jump back into GoT but I recently jumped back into Jedi: Fallen order (Just defeated the 9th sister and now exploring Dathomir.) Also started South Park: The stick of truth, just put it on last night for a look and ended up playing for hours. Been a while since I've watched the show but the game is hilarious 😂

@MightyDemon82 It's great to be back in the world of GoT. Having spent some time away from it I have to say it looks even more incredible this time round. I'm slowly getting back into the combat again as well but that's taken me a while and does make me wonder how I ever got used to the button layout before.

I really enjoyed Fallen Order as well so might give that a go now the upgrade is available. Never played the South Park games but I keep hearing good things about them. I can't even remember the last time I watched an episode of South Park but it might even be 10 years or something like that! 😅

@MightyDemon82 @render As much as I love it, this time I'm only gonna do Act 1 (with most side quests, probably) and go to Iki Island and 100% that. I could've gone there straight away but a year after my original playthrough, I had no idea what I was doing in fights and decided it was best to start over
Too many games waiting to be played to do the whole thing again

render

@Voltan @MightyDemon82 I just imported my save, wondered around Tsushima for a bit to get used to the mechanics again and then went to Iki. So far the story has been excellent and the combat is a bit of a step up but not too much. I might also give the Legends stuff another go as it's annoying to see all those 0% next to the sections in the trophy list.

render

Voltan

@render I never played Legends (it wasn't out yet when I got the platinum) so I might give that a try as well. Just not sure if I wanna co-op with strangers and none of my friends are playing it.

Voltan

render

@Voltan Same here. I played a few games with strangers last time round but moved onto something else before I really got into it. I was quite fun but I think it's definitely something that works best when you are organised. If you want to have a look and need a slightly less strange stranger to coop with then let me know 😀
