Let's be frank - I've bought a bunch of rubbish games before. Assassin's Creed 3, No Man's Sky, Crysis 2, Metal Gear Rising - probably loads more - all games that I bought at launch and all things considered I'd rather have spent the money on crisps.
The one that really sticks out though is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. I remember it very well because it was back before I went all digital so I was still buying real games from real shops. I'd taken a day off work for it because Metal Gear Solid is one of my favourite ever game series but I hadn't bothered pre-ordering because they always have stock of everything.
Anyway, they didn't have stock of everything and there were no copies of MGSV even though I went to the shop at like 7am, so I recall driving to another shop that didn't have it, then another. I ended up spending four hours driving to different towns looking for a shop that could sell me a copy of the game and I was proper furious because I'd taken the day off to play it and half the day was gone. This might have been the game that turned me all digital, thinking about it.
Anyway, I finally got home and started playing it and I loved it for like an hour but as soon as it went wink wink open world I started getting annoyed with it. I played all day and not a single thing interesting happened in the story post-intro so I was really frustrated, and I seem to recall I stopped up until like 3am playing it because I wanted something to happen so it felt like I'd achieved something in my day off.
I hadn't though. I hate that game. And that day. Pretty sure they forgot my garlic sauce when I ordered a pizza too.
Ooh I actually thought of one. Super Mario 3D World. I expected that game to be fun but it felt like sleepwalking through a Mario flavoured tofu milkshake.
@lolwhatno Haha, good observation! 👀 I'm the new Community Manager of Push Square, Pure Xbox & Nintendo Life so you'll probably see me around a lot more! 😊
I have ever bought MLB 2K10 PS3 with very cheap price, played the game for 30 minutes and I didn't even understand how to swing the bat or throwing the ball correctly at all. The game was unplayable for me with very gimmicky control. I was disappointed and I gave the game to my local game shop owner for free. I didn't even want a refund as nobody ever have interest in playing Baseball games in my country Indonesia unless the peoples have strong interest with Baseball.
My friend and I clubbed together to get Suikoden III on import (it never made it to the UK) along with some disc-swapping gadget I've long since forgotten the name of. We tried to use it on his PS2 and it killed it.
We then tried it on my PS2. It killed it.
We then decided that we were both fools and should never be allowed to do anything ever again.
Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.
On the PS1 it was the first game I ever purchased myself, Crash Bandicoot. Actually a really good game. But I was just so gutted that I spent all my money, £50 and then 100% finished it in 3 days.
On PS3 it was Colonial Marines. First time I found out a developer would happily tell so many lies to customers and could get away with it, to the point they used a whole load of fake footage to advertise it. Such a terrible game.
On PS5, it was Cyberpunk. Clearly I didn't learn my lesson. But at least there's a decent game in there somewhere and they're trying to fix it, that's something..
Looking forward to playing it eventually but still, they have lost my trust going forward.

I never like popular mainstream games like Zelda or FIFA or Fortnite, games with too edgy / badass looking as I felt repulsed with them. My brain said NO to every games like that as my brain only accept something cute, cartoonish, kiddie things, colorful stuffs, girlie stuffs like Barbie.
I'm a bit of a die-hard Sonic fan and will pick up any Sonic game on release. Usually no matter how bad / mediocre they are, I tend to find at least some enjoyment in them. Heck, I still go back to Sonic 06 every now and then and can admit that's a terrible game.
Sonic Forces isn't terrible...it is just painfully mediocre with no redeeming qualities. There's absolutely nothing here for me that isn't done 100x better in any other Sonic game. I was done with the game in a couple of hours, and it remains one of the few Sonic games that I have 0 desire to pick up again.

Well, Rhythm and Life Sim games are my forte so I played DDR seriously and I really like life sim games with customization and designing from ACNH / The Sims games.
I feel bad for saying this but Horizon Forbidden West. If I’d known I was going to cave and buy Elden Ring then I would have waited for Horizon on sale. I was weak! And now I fear that I’ll judge it a bit harsher than I would have, plus it’ll be ages before I go back to it.
MGS The Phantom Pain. I bought it for another deep espionage story with glorious cheesy dialogue but instead got a silent Jack Bauer doing side missions in canyons and deserts. Huge downward spiral from Snake Eater.
