I went back to Street Fighter III: Third Strike for the first time in years. The fact I managed to beat the final boss of arcade mode for the first time ever says a lot. His regeneration power is just horrible to play against.
@nessisonett Hi there friend.
Love those two Street Fighter games you mentioned.
Especially SFA3, my personal favourite.
But yeah, SFIII is still great fun to play.
And as for Gill shenenigans, nothing beats hearing "Resurrection" as you "defeat" him 😜
Wich system do you play? Maybe we can get some matches.
Cheers, stay safe and have a good one
"Don't regret your past, learn from it. Regrets just make a person weaker".
"Solid Snake"
"Want to be a stronger person? Live the moment of your Present, don´t forget your Past and use it to build up your Future."
@Voltan Hey friend.
Dude, I am so gonna do this. That version of Nago was driving me crazy.
I almost had him with Chipp, of all characters, but he dies pretty quickly 😒
Definitely not the proper way to play the game, but against the CPU?
If the CPU cheats, then we cheat to 😜
Cheers, stay safe and have a good one

Not too sure if it's been mentioned, but Mortal Kombat 11 selling 12 million copies is astonishing! And I think that takes the series overall to 73 million.
@JohnnyShoulder Yeah, it makes it like in top 5 best selling fighting games ever (and that's if you include Smash Bros in the same genre). Apparently it hasn't surpassed MKX sales just yet (last reported number for MKX was 11 million but that was a couple years ago) but it's pretty much guaranteed to do so soon.
Soooo I played Strive again today after not playing anything since Saturday night, got promoted to floor 10 again quickly and decided to keep playing just until I get demoted again.
2.5 hours later I had to change that plan because I was basically going 50:50-ish
So yeah, I’m currently a floor 10 player.
I'm hopefully going to get around to starting MK11U this week. I decided to watch through recordings of the story modes of MK9 and X on YouTube to refresh my memory as I absolutely loved those games but unfortunately don't have time to play them again right now. Also, I don't want to relearn them only for me to have to forget them and learn MK11 straight away.
First thing that striked me about MK9 was how many characters it had! It must have had 90% of the characters from the first 3 MK games (I noticed that Motaro was killed in a cutscene, I can't remember if he was playable but I thought this might have been a convenient way to not have to balance a four legged fighter). It's almost like the modern equivalent of MK Trilogy. Awesome, I got so many thrills from watching the story mode.
I'm only about 40 mins into MKX (will watch the rest tonight). I loved this game so much, especially all the new characters like Cassie, D'vora, Ferra&Torr etc. But I totally forgot Takeda and Jin were even in it to be honest. Glad to see Kenshi back too, he was one of my favourite new fighters in the Deadly Alliance era.
It's kind of mad how they kept coming up with really cool new characters through every iteration of Mortal Kombat. I know a fair few of them fell a bit flat on their face but characters like Kenshi, Bo Rai Cho, Nitara etc are really cool and memorable characters.
Just playing through the tutorials on MK11U now. Bloody hard to work out some of it. This is the first MK game I'll be playing through with a stick. My stick skills aren't great anyway and I find it difficult to hit left then right with it for certain moves. It's definitely easier to do rolling specials. But yeah, I got this one on Xbox so stick is my only option as I don't fancy playing it with the Xbox D-Pad which isn't very good. There isn't a reasonably priced controller adapter for Xbox either (like there is for PS4 and switch) that will allow me to use a DS4 or even the Bluetooth Saturn controller or switch's Bluetooth SNES pad (not sure how well that would work with the tiny zr and zl buttons anyway)
@ralphdibny I gotta admit I didn’t realize people cared about story and lore In fighting games until I got MK11 and joined the MK subreddit
Interesting that you’re going with the stick. Out of all popular fighting games, MK is the one with the least top level players using sticks - the DS4 seems to be the way for most. I’m sure that’s not a “wrong” way to play it though
@Voltan haha I love the story in all fighting games, it's the hook for me. Whether it's a single screen of text at the end of an arcade ladder, a full blown story mode or countless cartoon and movie tie ins, it's all great stuff!
I probably would go DS4 if I had the option now that I've seen that it's mostly "face" buttons for attacks. Soul Calibur 6 was another kind of "console fighter" that is designed around a controller instead of a stick. It's kind of weird I guess but I button mash anyway so I barely notice the usual Hard, medium and light attacks of 6 button fighters
I haven't seen the new MK movie (will get around to it one day) but having watched the story mode of 9, I really feel like it could work well as a Game of Thrones style TV show. One where nobody is safe. Nobody even seems safe in the games to be honest either considering they managed to kill Liu Kang in both timelines lol. I was thinking that not a lot of people were dying in MK9 but when it hit the MK3 era of the storyline, all bets were off and they were dropping like flies!
@ralphdibny I hear the animated movie Scorpion’s Revenge is very good but I haven’t seen it. Another one from the same studio also just came out a couple weeks ago.
@Voltan I thought scorpions revenge was pretty good. I still haven't seen Battle for the Realms yet. I think it's called that, I keep going to say Defenders of the Realm which is like the kids cartoon version (I loved that when I was younger!)
The new animated films are very similar to the DC animated films and I am guessing there is a lot of crossover with the talent involved. I like the DC ones a lot but they vary in quality a bit.
That just reminded me that I actually played Injustice 2 with the stick actually. I can't really remember what the button layout was on it though.
I'm about halfway through the main story on MK 11 now. Bloody loving it! I especially love that they've given Jade an actual character arc because I always thought she was a bit of a no name character. I like her a lot in this game! Same with Baraka, I've never been a huge fan of him beyond the initial awe of seeing him for the first time 25 or so years ago. Especially as he just looks like every other Tarkatan so I've always wondered why they put him in basically every game these days. They've given him a decent storyline and some actual conviction in this which is good.
I had to remap the buttons on the stick in the end because the default layout was too awkward for me. Now I've got the face buttons mapped to the top 4 buttons on the stick and the shoulder buttons mapped to the bottom four. It's much more intuitive this way and I'm getting a lot better at pulling off the trickier specials
It's nice to play as a non zombie version of Liu Kang for once too! To be honest, I was a bit worried because the first character I tried out was Cassie and she just felt really off compared to X where she was my main. I don't want say they've nerfed her because they haven't, she's just different in so many ways. But having got some way into the story, I've found all of the other characters are much better and easier to play as than they were in previous games. Johnny Cage, Sub Zero, Jade, hell even Kitana was someone I used to have trouble with but I'm flying through her chapter at the moment!
Awesome game, really glad I waited for a Komplete edition and I'm really glad I finally get to play it! It does just play really well, takes a few fights to get the hang off but yeah, I'm loving it!
I finished up MK11 and Aftermath at the weekend. I loved the main story mode and thought aftermath was a bit pointless but I did enjoy the alternate endings.
I do have some gripes for continuing to play it past the story mode and I know I will sound like an old fuddy duddy for some of these things. The gear system is confusing, just like it was in Injustice 2. I really would just prefer to play the game without having to worry or think about stuff like that, it's just too complex for me. The other thing is all the alternate costumes. They look very cool but how on earth does anyone have time to unlock them. A Google search was telling me it would take thousands of hours of grinding, not even just playing the game, to unlock them all. Unless you pay money. Aparently it costs something like $650 to get everything. I love alternate costumes but I don't love them that much. It's stuff like that which makes me not want to buy games at all, like not even the base version. Why pay any money toward a game when the "complete" version is both unattainable from time (due to working an average to low income job all the time) or money (also due to working an average to low income job all the time). Just seems backwards to me.
It's a great shame because I love Mortal Kombat and have done since I was a kid. This new entry is brilliant, it controls brilliant, it plays brilliantly and the story is awesome. But the pay/timewall is so off putting that it makes me really not want to take it past the story mode at all.
Still though, I would like to speculate about the next Mortal Kombat game! I know it won't happen because of how the franchise has been treated as of late (brilliantly but in the most greedy way), but it seems like it's high time for an all character game! MK trilogy came out after 3 iterations and Armageddon came out after another 3 (or so) iterations. It would be cool to see a Trilogy/Armageddon type game come out that includes at least all of the MK characters up until now with the modern gameplay mechanics. If they really wanted to lock characters behind Kombat packs then I'd say make all of the DLC characters be guest characters that have been used before in the series and a few extra ones. But yeah, would probably cost them too much to make a game with that many characters all updated and balanced for the "new era" but I can dream!
@ralphdibny Let me know which characters you end up using. Story mode is cool for making that decision as it makes you play a different one in each chapter (they’re not all features though)
I know you asked this a while back but I thought I'd answer! I'd say it's easier for me to choose which characters I didn't like playing as so much in the story mode. Raiden is one of them. I just didn't find him to be as intuitive as the others. There was one other character I didn't rate as much but I forget who now.
I was surprised at how many characters were actually brilliant to play as. People I'd ignored in other iterations for so long. Shao Khan was fun, Kotal was very good too. Fujin worked well. Yeah I'd say I got to grips with all but 2 characters in the story mode.
Some of them forced me to use more kombos instead of just spamming specials but the kombos were generally easier on those characters. I loved how easy to specials were to pull off though once i remapped the buttons on my stick
