Topic: Fighting Games!

I picked up the final 2 DLC skin packs for MK11 that weren't included in the Ultimate edition for half price on the Xbox store so I now, hopefully have the the completest edition of it that they will do

Unfortunately that doesn’t exactly give you all skins as some were pre-order bonuses and some were region-specific but you just can’t buy those now (I hear they can appear on the in-game store where you can spend your time crystals but I’ve never seen them there myself).

@Voltan I think I'll just have to accept that, I think it was the same with Mortal Kombat XL and possibly Injustice 2 Definitive.

My copy of MK11U did come with a code for a Time Warriors Skin Pack though which I redeemed

Lookin forward to playing through the story mode anyway at some point. Not sure if I should play the story mode of 9 and X again first though just to catch up with it 🤷‍♂️. Maybe I'll try and find a summary video on YouTube to refresh my memory

@ralphdibny Let me know which characters you end up using. Story mode is cool for making that decision as it makes you play a different one in each chapter (they’re not all features though)

@Voltan fair enough, yeah will do! I was a huge fan of Cassie Cage in XL but I've heard they've changed her up massively in 11 in terms of look, voice and how she actually plays which might be a bit weird for me.

Not sure how comparable he is to Cassie but I also liked Green Arrow in Injustice 1. I can't really remember who ended up being my favourite character in Injustice 2, possibly Robin

I also liked the bee lady in XL as well as the feral child and the big thing. It's been a while, I can't remember their names 😅

I see they've brought Frost back from Deadly Alliance (I think?) which could be cool. I liked her in that game!

@ralphdibny The game itself is very different from from MKX so I guess no character really plays the same even if they have some of the same moves.
Cassie’s pretty good and I like her design in 11 more than X

@Voltan fair enough, yeah it did feel a bit alien when I had a quick go on it! I think injustice 2 was the same, it takes a good while to get used to

Who are/were your mains/favourites in the various modern NR games so far??

@ralphdibny The only NRS game I played a fair amount is MK11 (technically I did play Injustice and MKX but it was like 30 minutes each) so I only have a favorite character in it and it’s Scorpion.
Last MK I played before 11 was 4, where I think I mostly played Liu Kang and in MK3 it was Kabal

@Voltan ahh cool, Scorpion is a classic! I love the non-demon version of him in these modern games. It's really cool what they did with some of these classic characters. Less so what they did with the zombified classic characters, just in terms of looks though as they look a bit generic.

I think my favourite MK games have been X, Deadly Alliance and Trilogy (despite its awful load times!). I think I've played all of the main ones except Deception but I haven't played a huge amount of Armageddon, 2 and 3/U3. I've played a few random ports for handhelds too

Kabal is awesome, I loved him in the old cartoon as well. The one for kids, I used to watch it when I was young!

Sooo my cat woke me up and I watched the DLC character reveal for Strive. It’s Goldlewis Dickinson - the big guy with a coffin on a chain
Probably not a character I’d play (always gravitated towards faster characters) but looks cool

I think this is going to be a very cool character… sounds way too hard to use for me though, lol

@Voltan He is a very interesting character.
I wanna try him just to see how much crazy he can be in terms of damage and guardbreak oportunities.
Not only his design is very Guilty Gear-ish, in my opinion, but also his moveset is pretty unique as well.
In this Behemoth Typhoon, Goldlewis coffin transforms him into Sonic the Hedgehog and spin dashes his opponent into oblivion!!!

Hi there fellow gamers.
So I decided to play some Guilty Gear Strive online matches and after a few wins, I was suposed to rank up right after one more win. But I did a full set of 3 wins and didn´t rank up.
Then I played some more and won another full 3 win set and then I ranked up from the seventh floor to the ninth floor. How the heck does this rank promotion actualy works??? 🤷‍♂️
Anyways, the game is still super fun and after a strange week that I had, it was exactly what I needed

@RaZieLDaNtE A similar thing happened to me a few times now. In reality, you did rank up but the game didn't tell you nor kicked you out of the lobby (when you should've no longer had access to that floor). When it happened to me I only noticed because the badge in my r-code changed. Once I exited the lobby, I couldn't get on that floor again.
It happens when you get demoted as well.

I was playing today too and ranked up to Floor 10... it lasted for exactly 2 sets (6 matches, of which I won 1). Seems like I am getting a little better - not really doing more optimal combos or anything but improving on the matchup knowledge, I guess. Somehow I still can't win against Anji, who is supposed to be a bad character - probably because I hardly ever encounter them.

@Voltan So that´s what happened.
I thought it was strange, ranking up two floors.
I don´t have the rank badge, so I wouldn´t know about it.
Still strange though.
With Anji, use a lot of air moves and alpha blades. Works for me 😉
I fought a crazy Zato player in floor nine. The pressure was real.
I think the guy was just mashing every button. All I could see was Eddie atacking high and low 😜

I went to floor 10 and back 3 times today. I’m yet to win a single set on Floor 10

Here’s a pretty cool match I had on 9 today (converting a gold burst into a win in round 1 and a dropped wall break actually working out better for me in round 2)

I went online in Strive for a short while tonight (it was pretty late already). Not many people in the tower because clearly everybody was in the parks checking out Goldlewis.
So I tried to match against couple of them. The first one got discouraged quickly and wouldn’t rematch after two losses. The other one was a celestial floor player and we did 20 games. It was fun watching both of us adapt to the matchup (or, in my case, to their adaptation). I won the first 5 games, then lost 10 in a row, then won another 4 and ended it at 9-11.

Goldlewis seems cool! He’s pretty slow but has big hit boxes that make it hard for Chipp (and other close range characters, I suppose) to get in. He’s in a bit of trouble when Chipp does get in though
His drone thingy allows him to get in on trying to zone him out on the ground as it blocks attacks while moving forward (seems a good tool against Axl).
His damage is pretty insane (especially the reversal overdrive, Chipp basically dies). Even chip damage on block from his Behemoth Typhoon can almost rival some hits from others
Obviously It’s only day 1 players are just starting to research his game plan but I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do (I won’t be playing him myself as I don’t typically enjoy slow characters).

@Voltan Hi there friend. I tried Goldlewis on a few matches and he is as unique has I thought he was going to be.
Big hitboxes and big damage for a big character. He´s kinda fun to play honestly, but only if you don´t mind playing slow characters. He´s best buttons for me are 6HS and jump Dust + Behemoth typhon combo, which is a must.
Let´s get some more matches when we can.
