@KratosMD It's the lack of proper towns that screwed up XIII. FFX's map looked like a long piece of spaghetti on a plate with the odd other little piece of spaghetti overlapping it - but it had towns so you weren't just endlessly running down a corridor. You also could backtrack so it didn't feel like you were on a long, straight conveyor belt through enemies and cutscenes.

FFVIIR is more like X than XIII. Man, even going back to IV, that was linear as hell and for most of the game you couldn't even choose who was in your party. But it still succeeded in feeling more like an actual world than XIII did due to having towns with lots of NPCs and cool little things to do there, like turning yourself into a frog to gain access to a hidden area.

@Arugula I was wondering who the 0.8% of people who haven’t got the first trophy were..

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy I agree with you about XIII, I loathed the cast and themes so much that I couldn’t get past the linearity and lack of towns. In comparison, X had such a good story and cast that you could get past the linearity, despite it feeling more like a proper world once you got the airship.

Is anyone else struggling to hear the dialogue at times? Either the music is too loud (which I've turned down) or there is about 5 other people talking over you. I've had to turn on the subtitles, which I hate doing.

@JohnnyShoulder Yeah, the sound levels are all over the place. I turned the music down but then it seems like cutscene dialogue volume is different to gameplay dialogue.

I got to Seventh Heaven and am enjoying it so far. Still yet to use my baby chocobo summon.

@Thrillho I’m at the same part you’re on. I didn’t want to rush it so after playing the first 2 chapters at once, I booted up MLB for the daily grind.

@Thrillho @nessisonett Just doing some side quests before cracking on with the main mission after increasing my rep. I've used the Carbuncle and Chocobo summons. Will be using the Cactuar summon shortly.

I really like using Tifa in battles with her close range combat and use of combos.

OMG guys I am playing chapter V and this is so good! Chapter IV was bonkers.

Never belligerent but always uncompromising.

Nei

@kyleforrester87 she’s the best, honestly She steals the scene from Tifa.I knew the Avalanche guys were a little more fleshed out but I wasn’t expecting this much.

Anyone else got a bug where songs play in a loop regardless of where you are? It only stops when I pause the game and then there’s 0 music until a new track starts.

Jessie was really cute in the demo.

...thankfully, I know not to get too attached.

I'm in Chapter 13 now. That bit just happened and it was as emotionally devastating as I thought it would be.

@kyleforrester87 Hands off, she's mine. 😤

Thrillho

Anyone else find the NPC in sector seven who sounds just like Patrick Warburton (but is actually his fantastically named son, Talon)?

Thrillho

JohnnyShoulder

@Thrillho I don't know who that is, but the voices for most NPC's are pretty awful. It is like their voices don't match their face. The one who is ripping off the Avalanche poster was unintentionally hilarious. I had the same issue with FFXIV, especially the reporter with god awful New Yoik accent. The main cast are great as they sound what I imagined how they sounded in my head after all these years.

Still these are minor grumbles in the larger scheme of things.

@JohnnyShoulder He plays Joe Swanson in Family Guy, Lemony Snicket in the Netflix show, Hugo Vasquez in Tales From the Borderlands. Quite a distinct voice!

I’ve found the NPC dialogue a little loud at times as it can drown out the main conversation taking place. Still having fun and liking the new material I’ve got already.

And a PSA: don’t buy ice materia from the item vendor immediately...

Thrillho

JohnnyShoulder

@Thrillho Yeah you find that on quest a bit later.

@Arugula That is exactly where my head is at. They have managed to keep the feel of how the original looks, sounds and plays but update it for the modern generation.

@Thrillho I think your gonna get that though, unless you look at a guide before everytime you buy something. You can just equip it on another party member. I bought a lightening one as Barrett was no longer part of my team currently.
