After the bike part with Jessie, what did she say to you guys? She can actually say 3 different things. One is that you failed the test, one is that you passed but only barely, the third is that you passed and then she gives you a little kiss. You get a trophy for this. It's all down to how much HP you have at the end.
@kyleforrester87 Yeah, that was the low point for me. I just wanted it to be over. Copy-pasting the same floor 5 times before Airbuster didn't help either.
did not get to the bike part yet but if you want the trophy you need to finish it with roughly 80% health left according to the trophy guide. might be usefull to know for those who want to get the trophy in chapter select.
@Matroska FAILED as I restarted from a checkpoint for the final bit to have higher health but that also doesn’t get you the trophy. Definitely one for chapter select later.
@Thrillho BTW, you pick up a bunch of materia along the way. I think I have about 3 Cures just from picking them up. But it is good to have more than one so you do not rely on one team member to explotpit weaknesses or heal etc.

I'm wondering how materia so progress in the next game(s) since you can get Firaga, Curaga, Arise, Esuna etc in this part already. I know in some of the games they go beyond
-aga level spells into the -aja tier, such as Firaja. Maybe the materia will unlock extra levels in part 2. Maybe they'll have Flare like in the original, and make it do fire damage rather than non-elemental, that then become Flara, Flaraga? Feels like they need to do something about that, though.
@Matroska It’s looking likely that it’ll be a complete reset come the second game. Maybe have you start with level 1 spells again because the power creep is all over the place. I don’t really see any other way of doing it.
@nessisonett It occurred to me but it seems like such a bad way of doing it. It's also noticeable that they did hold back, despite going up to -aga tier, since there's only about 7 enemy skills in the game, and as far as I know they don't have Break, Ultima, x2 Cut, Manipulate, Morph, most summons, and loads of other things. So they've definitely left many things for later.
There is a lot of FFXIII DNA in this game, it’s like they revisited that formula and made it work better.
The second bombing mission was a bit too long imho but not bad at all, and after it there was such a fantastic new high ....great stuff.
@Feena Yeah, true. Though unlike XIII you can actually revisit previous areas although the game stops you at certain points. Like when you leave the church with Aeris, initially you can't go back. Get to the nearby train station and you can.
@Matroska The level design, the Hamauzu music, the way you have to build up the enemy stagger meter and then switch to “big damage” mode ...all very FF13.
Darn I missed on some materia in there! thought they were going to bring me back there later on!
Currently up to the Reactor 5 boss which has wiped out my party numerous times. My only real complaint so far is the battle camera which doesn't always give an optimal view.
Not really noticing poor textures (not saying they aren't there, mind) other than Cloud's strange door which stuck out. DF have theorised it's possibly a result of the high number of unique textures being loaded at once. Occasionally noticing some slight pop-in which is a known Unreal Engine issue. The game is otherwise quite beautiful - particularly the lighting and main character models. The transition from CG to real-time rendering is so seamless I can't tell a difference. To be honest I'm so bowled over by this simply existing and being out I'm giddy just playing. The chapter with Jessie, Biggs and Wedge was great so I hope there are more completely new sections that flesh out the world and characrers. I like how it's anchoring Cloud and giving him more of a stake.
The new music is great. For a lot of tracks it's more inspired by the original compositions rather than being straight orchestrations. I like the atmosphere of the Mako Rector theme but in some ways prefer the heavy electronic, almost industrial sound of the original. They're very different.
@mookysam Yeah the camera will sometimes be in front of the character you are controlling, which is not the best. I agree with you in the music, I think it is superb. Apart from the jukebox tunes you pick up which have been mostly awful. But as soon as the music started in the title screen it gave me goosebump!

Phew, just beat Airbuster! Only just as only had Tifa with a decent amount of health left, Cloud unconscious and Barrat stunned. Her Rise and Fall is pretty lethal!

@JohnnyShoulder yes that battle was brutal!
Sorry I really didn’t consider anything that I wrote to be a spoiler - But I’ll stick to general comments even more
@mookysam I found myself enjoying the new music more than the old one, maybe just because I have listened to the classic ost so so many times and it’s nice to get something fresh. The jukebox tunes have been weird and kinda terrible, I agree.
