I've beat him on Hard now but I can't help but wonder what exactly you're meant to do when Abzu summons tornadoes from all the puddles. They seem to seek out characters and are unblockable.
Hard Mode is weird; normal enemies are incredibly easy even when using no MP and most bosses are the same as Normal or slightly easier. Then suddenly there's an odd difficulty spike. On Hell House it was easy, even with the tonberries, but I must've had a lapse in concentration because suddenly Cloud and Aeris were on less than half health, HH did his lightning melee combo and killed her, Cloud had no ATB and the two robots were bearing down on him... Then my Bahamut did Megaflare and ended the fight instantly. Phew!
Also there's a promotion in the UK now with Batchelors products. You can win the game, the first class edition, a PS4 Pro, an amazing trip to Tokyo and lots of in-game items that you can't currently get any other way. https://winwithbatchelors.co.uk/
Goddamn that super boss battle run was intense. Why would you put Bahamut AND Ifrit together???
I followed a couple of strategy guides for the battle and still couldn't do it. Had a little tinker with materia and it worked like a charm. Let me know if you want a tip if you want to make the run slightly easier. It's a damn good feel when P&J finally goes!
Now just 3 trophies to go:
*Beat the game on hard (should be easy now with the gotterberg or whatever it's called)
*Get all enemy skills (got the materia in the late game or I would've got this one already)
*Get all 9 dresses. This one will prob be the most frustrating to play random chapters just for the sake of it.
@icecube Nice. I just managed the “super boss battle run” this afternoon and didn’t have too many problems in the end (managed it first go) but that penultimate fight wasn’t much fun!
I’ve run through the chapters in order so just have 17&18 to finish, and then the final run for the nine dresses trophy and I’m done.
@Matroska I’ve found the bosses all a bit harder but Abzu and Arsenal are the ones to have given me a bit of a problem.
I think Abzu’s tornado attack only travel in straight lines but tend to go for the person you were controlling and from multiple angles so it feels like there’s no escape. That move is certainly what finished me off s couple of times..
@icecube Good luck for the final stretch! The item from the super boss battle run is pretty useful for big fights.
Phew, chapter 17 done which is a bit tough as there are so many fights, mini-bosses, and main boss fights that keeping MP levels up is tough. It's a hell of a lot easier with that item from the Combat Simulator though!
@icecube Prayer is an absolute god send (buh dum tish) for this part. The constant swapping of materia is a pain but worth doing.
As before, using elemental materia linked to magnify and on the same character having that elemental linked to MP absorb is great for big groups, and there are plenty of those in this section.
In particular;
Ice for the unknown entities, and lightning for sledgeworms and brain pods. The brain pod creates loads of clones of itself so thundara with magnify gets rid of these quickly.
Then for swordipede, using Cloud’s limit break straight away completed that part of the fight immediately. Then for Tifa/Aerith I used sleep and the top bio spell and he was done in no time.
I cheesed Cloud’s limit break on Rufus; Jenova isn’t that difficult; and Arsenal just remember to give Barret the limit break accessory.
The Arsenal was almost impossible on hard mode. About half way through the fight I realised I was consuming MP faster than I was taking his health so I NEARLY gave up. I continued though (don't know why) and I eventually realised that every time Barrett died he would come back with a full limit break. So I resorted to just using Aerith to raise (not arise) him, use his limit, let him die and repeat. And then in the last firewall/laser stage refusing to use any curing at all. Just pummeled with Judgement Ray and full Fury and he popped his clogs with Aerith 1hp and Barrett 208hp and only 1mp on Aerith so couldn't revive even if I wanted to.
The HUGEST sigh of relief when he went!
@icecube Maybe an hour or two? I stuck it on normal and whizzed through chapter 3 to get Tifa sorted. Luckily for me, the other two dresses I needed were from completing zero optional quests in 8 and 9 so it took no time.
Hell House was a doddle this time around!
The end of 18 is tough and took me a couple of goes. It takes a LOT of blocking and healing!
I'm going to re-play the Midgar section on the original now, then I'm going to attempt to find my PSP, which has probably still for the Crisis Core disk in it (!) to play that. Then I'm going to watch Advent Children.
