So i thought i would start a new thing FINAL FANTASY Myths were we put to rest some of the myths surrounding the franchise
first off (and i got this one from a recent twitter post about FFIX being added to Game Pass)
Myth: FINAL FANTASY is a PlayStation franchise: Categorically false
while many people associate the FF franchise with PlayStation the fact of the matter is that of the mine line games on THREE were exclusive to PlayStation (they are now not by the way) and these were FINAL FANTASY IX, FINAL FANTASY X and FINAL FANTASY XII, FFI through VI were originally on NES and SNES respectively, VII and VIII were released on P.C, XI was on P.C and 360, XIII was on 360, XIV on P.C and XV on XB1
so no FF has NEVER been a PlayStation franchise

@FullbringIchigo FF’s main series games can be split into pretty distinct eras: NES trilogy, SNES trilogy, PS1 trilogy, PS2 trilogy, multiplat trilogy. I’ve played more FF games on Nintendo consoles than I have Playstation, but that’s mostly due to the handheld remakes, which are brilliant.
Just finished my first playthrough. Was wondering did anyone tried getting the Gotterdammerung first before re-playing the other chapters on Hard difficulty? If so, can I exit Chapter 17 after getting the accessory? Does it also save the progress I've made of clearing the new Shinra Combat Simulator challenges if I didn't finish the chapter?
Do you have to finish the chapter to keep newly obtained items like armors, accesories, materias and manuscripts in Chapter Select?
@nessisonett in the UK the first release we got was FFVII unless you want to count Mystic Quest but that never carried the FINAL FANTASY label over here but yeah i tend to break them down into eras too basically the same as yours NES, SNES, PS1, PS2 and HD
as for the handheld versions there were some great ports and remakes of the early games although i still stand that the PSP versions of FFI and FFII are the best versions of those games to play, the DS remake of FFIII was fantastic but i would still put the PSP version just above it because you don't need to send messages to other players in order to unlock Onion Knight and the DS FFIV remake was again brilliant and so was the PSP port of the original FFIV which also has Interlude and After Years included and now that the Wii Shop is offline it's the only way to get those 2 games and the GBA versions of FFV and FFVI were great too
but the Switch is probably the best place to play FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX and FFXII because of the ability to not only play on your TV but on the go too and i know FFX is also on Vita but the Switch version looks and plays better

@WanderingBullet thing is you only unlock that fight after your first playthrough and only then if you have done all fights in Don Corneo's Colosseum and the Shinra Battle simulator best bet is to go through the entire game again on easy and get to chapter 17 (that way you can work on things like the dresses) because you don't have to be on hard mode to challenge the hard fights, it will still only have hard selectable from the battle simulator menu and yes you need to finish the chapter to keep you items but as you are at the end you might as well finish the game at that point

@FullbringIchigo Sorry, but I don't understand. Why need to go through the entire game again on easy? My plan is to play Chapter 17 first to get the Gotterdammerung if possible and then do a second play though on Hard difficulty to get all the manuscripts. As for the dresses, after my Hard mode playthrough, I can just select Chapters 3, 8 and 9 and ignore all the side quests to get the remaining three dresses. Well that's the plan anyways.lol
@WanderingBullet no you can chapter select and go straight to chapter 17 if you want i just said you can go through again on easy for the dresses but there might be other stuff you missed too such as all the johnny scenes for example plus you also have to make sure you do Aeriths battles in the Colosseum too otherwise you can't unlock the last battle simulator fight anyway

@FullbringIchigo nice idea with the Myths. This idea of FF = PS1 has also generated the malapropism “Final Fantasy fan” indicating a person who just likes FFVII and IX.
@Feena yeah that kind of thing is in every fandom sadly

@WanderingBullet I think you have to complete a chapter to save progress so can't just jump in to get the item. That said, you don't have to complete the chapters in order to get the trophy for finishing them all on hard so feel free to jump straight in to it if your materia is good enough.
To be honest, I didn't really need it through the most part of the game and using it did feel a little bit like cheating for the enemies at the end of the game.
@Feena I like 8 and 10, then probably 7 and 15 following behind. 6 and below I don't have the nostalgia. (megadrive, Amiga and amstrad owner prior to the PS1).

Hmm, I’d probably rank VI, VII and X top and then a lower rank of IV, IX, VIIR, XII and XV (after the patches). I really dislike XIII and I’ve tried about 7 times to play VIII but can’t really get into it. The older ones are a bit hit and miss and can be crazy difficult but I enjoy III and IV for what they are.
@FullbringIchigo that is true, especially for decade spanning series. I guess it feels stranger to me because there are very popular entries before and after those two games.
I didn't want to sidetrack this, but I love to get to know your favourites or a reminder of your favourites
If I look at all these titles just as JRPGs, I must say they kept the quality pretty high over the years. I mean, it must be tangible to even the harsher detractor of this or that episode that these are opulent, extravagant productions. And I think there is value in that. And that we are somehow lucky that the only JRPG saga that gets to have the crazy production values is the one that changes every time...so we have different spins on the AAA JRPG, even if it's titularly from the same saga. Am I making sense? LOL.I swear it does make sense to me.
And I wish we had more crazily expensive JRPGs aside from FF.
Anyway I think there is something interesting in every Final Fantasy, I honestly don't dislike any of them, my favourites are V and XII and I hope XVI doesn't play anything like them. Or the FFVII remake - that I also really liked.
@themcnoisy I haven't played VIII in a long time. I bought the ps4 version around the time it came out but then never had a chance to play it. As soon as I am done with Persona 5 Royal, I am on it!
@FullbringIchigo Thanks, I think I've gotten all of the collectibles including Johnny's incidents on my first playthrough. Gonna need to replay Chapters 9 and 14 first to complete some of Aerith's Colosseum's challenges, though since I didn't know you have complete all of Corneo Colosseum's battle challenges to unlock Pride and Joy.
@Thrillho I usually don't like replaying story campaigns (even with games that I love) so if getting Gotterdammerung makes it easier or quicker than I'm all for it.lol
@Feena it's like asking who your favourite James Bond actor is, or your favourite ice cream. They are all good, alike but different.

@themcnoisy What a coincidence! My favourite Bond movie is blueberry and my favourite flavour of ice cream is Roger Moore. Mmmm, tastes like old leather.
@WanderingBullet You may as well do an easy run for the dresses to get back to the Colosseum with Aerith and then jump to chapter 17. All the Colosseum battles are available on your second run.
@Thrillho Yeah, gonna do them tomorrow. Jeez, just realised that I'll have replay Chapter 9 twice on Hard mode to get the manuscripts. Found the first half of it, the section with the robot arms was quite boring.
@WanderingBullet I wouldn’t worry about manuscripts, especially with ones related to side quests if you’re after the dresses that don’t need 6/6 on those chapters.
It’s useful to get some of the top level abilities (especially reprieve and ones that lower MP use for healing) but you really don’t need them all.
