Well that was a deal and a half @JohnnyShoulder! Just the standard edition I assume and not the nice fancy steelbook version?
Really should get round to booting it back up TZA again as I was really quite fond of it on the PS2. Rather lovely atmosphere and world design with a rather memorable soundtrack. The voice acting was great too & I was quite fond of the story as well despite it being a bit of a wild goose chase at times.
Be interesting to hear what you think of it whenever you get round to it!
Ha no worries @themcnoisy, happens to all of us! 😄
I can barely remember my time with VIII to be honest. Played it for the first time 3/4 years ago and only got to the second disc before I dropped it.
Really should give it another shot at some point but I still haven't returned to XII TZA as I said to johnny. Not to mention I have X & X-2's PS4 versions in the backlog too even if I've already played the hell out of the PS2 versions and the PS3 remaster... I haven't even thought about trying FF IX either...
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Yeah just the standard edition, but I almost got the Steelbook (which looked very nice indeed) for 14 quid, but someone beat me to it!
I'm in a good place to start it pretty soon as I'm kinda in a bit of a gaming limbo at the mo. Not played a FF or any kind JRPG since VII Remake (which has almost been a year, blimey that has gone quick!), so definitely due to play one.
I saw that @themcnoisy in the latest OPM mag. They did a nice feature on FF IXV and XVI, and then ranked all the games in the series. XII came out on top, and the recent article on here pushed me over the edge to buy it.

@nessisonett Finally took down Jecht. No ultimate weapons just normal gear. @themcnoisy I didn’t even consider that the game had level scaling! Make sense why i found it difficult.
I was still getting one shotted during the second phase despite levelling.
In the end i got him to phase 2, summoned Yojimbo & paid him all my gil & as the RNG gods would have it he used Zanmato. Instant kill 😂.

Seriously give me a reason why Final Fantasy 1 to 6 are not available in modern platforms. I am not the only one that wants them and plays them from time to time on my Vita... When they started porting FF9 and 8 in PS4 I thought all would appear eventually and I am glad we have 7, 7 Remake, 10, 10-2 and 12 but I want the full package.
Also, I still find it bizzare the the 13 trilogy is not on PS4 too.
@belmont They’re on iOS and PC so they are available on ‘modern devices’ as such but it’s true that it’s a bit odd they aren’t on PS4/5 and Xbox. Perhaps there’s some dodgy stuff behind the scenes getting them to work or they worry about the potential backlash the dreadful iOS graphics would receive being ported. Or they’re planning to work with Nintendo for a potential GBA app on Switch, at least in my dreams 😂
Is the iOS version of 6 any good btw? I somehow still never finished it... got to the apocalypse-like part twice and something always got in the way...
@Voltan It’s essentially the same game, but with pretty horrid graphics. Final Fantasy VI is an absolute masterpiece but there still isn’t a definitive version of it, as the GBA version has a worse soundtrack and the iOS version has those graphics despite the extra content both versions have.
Weren't they supposed to be coming to Gamepass, did that ever happen? I can vaguely remember hearing on a podcast that they are still not on there, but I could have dreamt this all up!

@nessisonett well that kinda sucks... it has pretty bad reviews on the App Store too. All those years back I played the SNES version on an emulator and it was awesome.
@Voltan My favourite version is the Advance port patched to include the original soundtrack. Bit of a nightmare to acquire on original hardware but I think you can buy carts on eBay.
Started FFXII last night. Thank you Mr Ebayer and postie for quick delivery. Not got far in so far, but liking what I've played so. Love the art style and the non-human character designs. A couple of the systems I'm not so sure of, but I'm sure that will come with playing more of the game. Kupo!

Whoa that really was fast delivery @JohnnyShoulder! I take it you're still just running around Rabanastre as Vaan right? Maybe off to make the sunstone?
Ya know I've never liked the Moogles design in the Final Fantasy games... Except in this one where they look like actual living creatures and fit into the world rather then the normal weird gonky design they have

I've just got the sunshine stone @Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy, and am about to head back to Rabanastre. I was thinking that the Moogle designs seem a bit different to what i remember.
Forgot to say before, one thing I'm not a fan of is the big black bar at the bottom of the screen during cutscenes, apparently for subtitles (even when they are disabled like I have). Strange how they didn't do anything about with the the remaster.
I quite like you can speed up traversal with a press of L1. Makes me a bit more enthusiastic about going back to previous areas.
One thing I am a bit confused by is equipment. My understanding is that you unlock the different Licenses, which means you can then equip the relevant stuff under that Licence? Also not quite sure how Gambits work. I've toggled it on and off in the battle menu, but not noticed any difference.

@JohnnyShoulder Yep, licenses mean you can then buy and equip that piece of equipment. It’s worth going to the latest shop to see what’s available before unlocking a license that you end up having to wait ages to use. Gambits are ways to make your team act in a certain way. So for example, ‘if HP <30%, use Potion’. You have to collect the conditions but they can be a really good way to save time and not have to worry about your party members.
Yeah moogles tend to look like this give or take a bit of artistic license @JohnnyShoulder
-EDIT- There finally got the link to work!
Ness has explained the license boards to a T.
The original PS2 version of the game made everyone have the exact same license board whereas in TZA you get different license boards that ends up giving you a class/job system more or less. I believe they patched in the ability to reset them now too if you like?
Depending on what you do/set them up the gambit system can make battles automated. I played the PS2 version back im the day entirely without them 😅
Awww, they look so cute @Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy! I like the middle three in the second row starting from the waistcoat wearing one.
The game explains the gambit system really well when you reach the tutorial, just after you meet Fran and Balthier (heeeellooooo Fran), and are back the sewers. What is it with FF games and sewers?! 😅 I have set them up now, and got one party member to heal when a character gets below 70% health, like @nessisonett mentioned.
I generally like the voice acting, apart the the clipped English toffs for some characters. Fran is especially good.
