Well Voltan isn't the only one pleased. I just finished my first ever playthrough of the OG ff7 (i know i'm 25 years late to the party) and even though it feels old in some places, that didn't bother me as much as the story is just very good. I never heard about Crisis core before yesterday but seeing all the positive feedback on that one made me very excited to play Crisis core. I have yet to play ff7R, wanted to get the OG one out of the way before i played FF7R. I plan on playing that later in the year. And seeing part 2 isnt that far away either makes me excited for that one as well. We'll get basically 3 ff games in one year and im happy with that as well
Consider me another that is pleased. I'd say I'm ecstatic actually, with me already declaring Rebirth my Game of the Year for either 2023 or 2024. It's taken too long to get the announcement for Part 2, but here we are finally and I'm perfectly fine that it is clear that it's going in it's own direction. It doesn't have to be a 1:1 remake. The original is readily available to play on basically every console. All that really matters is that the 3 games end up being really good, and they are off to a great start with the first one already being really good.
I actually never finished the original back in the day, but I do plan on fixing that someday. Knowing that this remake series will deviate a lot from that actually makes me more willing to replay the original as I don't need to play the same story twice in two different games. I'm also excited to play Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 High School Reunion as well since I never owned a PSP.

I’m real pleased… but I never played the original so I don’t carry any baggage. Best news for me is that the overall Remake will only be a trilogy. I understand that might weight the overall remake more heavily towards Midgard as opposed to the original where it was basically an intro… but Rebirth and Rart 3 might be 100+hrs each for all we know, so maybe it’ll balance itself out.
With Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion this winter, FFXVI next year and FFVIIRebirth next winter… it’s gonna be a helluva 13/14 months to be a fan (even if I’m a bit of a noobish fan 😉).
@johncalmc It’s just such a wasted opportunity. I can’t wrap my head around anybody actually thinking that a badly-written sequel with time travel and alternate universes is better than a potential faithful remake. The arrogance of the writers is what gets me, as if they thought the original needed jazzing up with some Force Ghosts and random Latin. Resi 2 is a great example, it modernises some aspects of the game but it’s still recognisably the same game. One of life’s greatest mysteries is why The Last of Us 2 got all that stick for ‘subverting expectations’ when FF7 Remake was far, far more egregious and wasn’t even supposed to be a sequel.
@nessisonett This is exactly how I feel about it. And it proper boils me. Just saw a Tweet from someone about it, saying something to the effect of "yeah I know we wanted a remake and this is silly nonsense but I'm here for it." And it took a Herculean effort to not reply to it.
I don't get why I keep seeing things like that. I don't understand the willingness to embrace bad because hey ho this is what we're getting so let's be positive. It's like buyers remorse, only for a story. Yeah, sure, it makes no sense and it's badly written and it's cartoonish drivel but let's just like it and if you don't like it just play the original.
And I'm like no it's more than that. Because Final Fantasy VII Remake has wonderful stuff in it. It's shown us how good the remake people had asked for for twenty years would be. So all it's done is make me want that hypothetical remake even more than I did before. I want those moments I had to imagine because the PS1 wasn't capable of showing them to me in glorious 4K. And instead we're getting a beloved game, with iconic characters and locations thrown into a meat grinder and reduced to nonsensical, Kingdom Hearts game sludge.
I try not to comment about it much because it makes me really, really mad 😂
@colonelkilgore Colonel I'm a FFXIV player for life, for as long as they add content. Although now that I'm caught up to current stuff my playing has slowed down dramatically. I show up for new patch content and help friends get through story content. My main courses currently are Smite, Kingdom Hearts 2, and Ys Origin.
Very fun combination of games, I'm having a blast! What you been up to lately?
@nessisonett perhaps the fate ghosts were always there, just nobody touched them in the original so they were never seen or talked about. 😉
@johncalmc there's still going to be 1:1 remake though. I believe Ever Crisis is supposed to be the original story with updated graphics, including FF7R's battle graphics. We just have to hope Square come to their senses and port it to a proper platform, not just mobile.
Been killing a shed-load of nazi’s this month on Wolfenstein Youngblood and Sniper Elite 4… and apart from that, just waiting on the Ragnarok release date so that I can plan the rest of my years gaming around it.

Well done for posting this in the Final Fantasy thread!
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
I think it's interesting that we're starting to see more "reimaginings" rather than straight up remakes. Resident Evil 4 "Remake", Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, it's just nice to see companies breaking the mold in terms of what we come to typically expect from remakes. Using the original experiences as templates but going off in new and refreshing directions in order to appeal to more audiences is very compelling to me. It's not something that we see a lot of today and I think that's cool.
@JohnnyShoulder i actually laughed out loud! I was meaning to reply to @TraCuz- but I must’ve forgot to hit reply and just posted. I can imagine how random that post looked without the reference to the question.
What I dislike about it is the bait and switch. 8 years ago we were told we were getting the remake we'd wanted. Then they tell us they're releasing it in episodes ultimately spanning a decade plus and two consoles (at least.) Then when they get to episode 2 they tell us "oh, it's not actually FFVII remade anymore, it's an all new modern post XV Nomura-ish story told using characters and locations from VII. Sorry!
I'm sure it'll be interesting, but it should be interesting as its own story with new characters and new places, not taking a dump on the history of 7, and not after telling us they're making a remake before changing their minds. From the same guy that tells us FF isn't part of KH, it was just there for product placement in the '00s.
7's story was already an incoherent trainwreck everywhere after Nibelheim. And this isn't going to fix it. They've already remade VII with a "new story and direction", it's called "XIII" and Cloud is called Lightning.
