Yesterday, a giant idiot derailed the Unpopular Gaming Opinions thread by idiotically posting a ton of non-gaming opinions.
Who was that?
IT WAS ME, AUSTIN.
Self-deprecative jabs aside, it was 4 am which means i temporarily lost my ability to read but thankfully was suggested I’d just make a thread for it as to not risk derailing the gaming one, so I decided to take upon the suggestion. this is probably as good a time as any to create a space for it.
Goes without saying, but be nice to one another or I’ll sneak a concord copy under your bed >:ccc
Have fun guys : D
Also uncharted 4 sucks kthxbye

I unironically enjoyed the film Morbius and don't understand why it became such a meme. Maybe because people dislike Jared Leto?
The Last Jedi is the best mainline SW film outside of the OT. It derailed the trilogy, but JJ Abrams "vision" was embarrassingly bad and deserved to be trashed.
MGS 3: Snake Eater is my least favorite entry in the original trilogy to a heavy degree, and I detest that it's the one getting remade.
@Yousef- Joke's on you. Concord physicals are gonna be a part of gamer urban mythology soon (like stories popping up about people dying under mysterious circumstances when they store the game on their shelves), and that'll make it sell for a small fortune to suckers.
@Ralizah The Last Jedi is such a tough one looking back on it. I wouldn’t say it’s good but also having seen what The Rise Of Skywalker was…. it’s a hell of a lot more creative. I’d probably say The Force Awakens was a better movie but every single good bit of it is a pastiche of a bit from the original movie. Creatively bankrupt but competent.
Sticking on the Star Wars theme for my hot take, having rewatched the entire 9 film saga…. I’m afraid to say that I think The Phantom Menace might be my favourite one outside of the original trilogy. Revenge of the Sith is a ‘better’ film but there are so many elements of TPM I enjoy more despite knowing it’s clearly stupid and nonsensical. The sequel trilogy does nothing for me and no other film has Darth Maul. Or Qui-Gon.
@nessisonett TFA was so bad, lol. Literally OG SW, but with all the nuance and beauty removed. The role of Luke is now played by a one-woman army with no personality who tears through the film like a Terminator, rendering most of the supporting cast irrelevant. The Empire is Nazi'd up to comical extremes. Pretty much the same conflict, now with a Super Mega Ultra Death Star. Pimple Vader is a terrible stand-in as the film's primary villain. Worse than anything, though, is how grotesquely it leans on and exploits nostalgia for actually good films.
I think TLJ is really strong in parts. It's a film that took chances, which neither of the Abrams films did. Admittedly, I spent years seething about people talking about what a great film TFA was, so seeing the direct sequel tear it down the way it did was immensely satisfying at the time.
Revenge of the Sith was okay. But the acting, man. It's so bad. I can't do it.
TPM is definitely the best of the prequel trilogy.
@Ravix Actually haven't seen that? Am I missing out?
I also agree about The Force Awakens. When I first saw it, I kind of enjoyed it, maybe. But I tried to watch it a few weeks ago as part of a mini SW binge, and it was so blatantly obviously just the same story as the first films, badly reskinned and retooled. I couldn't believe it was that badly done 😅 it should have been listed as a remake. It still has 1hr 57 remaining on my Disney app... so that says it all.
And, yes, yes you do. And maybe the Banshees of In(oh I'm not going to try and guess how it's spelled) for a bit of new age Farrell, too. In fact, just watch the Mcdonagh quartet and you will cover all bases, as he rotated between Rockwell and Farrell 😅
@Ralizah@nessisonett There are NO good "Star Wars" movies outside of the OT and only 2 good ones total - and that's coming from somebody who used to be one of the biggest "Star Wars" stans imaginable. As we're on movie HT's here's mine - "The Matrix Resurrections" is a subversive masterpiece and one of the biggest, most beautiful FU's from a filmmaker ever perpetrated onto a major movie studio.
PS I mentioned it over in the Unpopular Opinions thread but I might as well reiterate it here - at the weekend I enjoyed playing "Star Wars Outlaws" far more than "Astrobot". Go figure.

This! So much this!
I also agree with @LN78 re.: "The Matrix Resurrections" and even though I've yet to play either game, I do suspect I'll align with the assessment of "Star Wars Outlaws" vs "Astrobot" (though, to be fair, platformers have never been my thing).
If we are talking Star Wars, mines gotta be that A New Hope is complete rubbish. In fact, it might be the worst Star Wars film imo out of the three trilogies. I get why its an important film, and respect it on those merits, but just taking it in the context of an actual movie I just think its so naff.

@Yousef- Yeah, the taste of pumpkin pie is, imo, a strange middle ground of trying to be sweet, but ending up more bland. Also, the texture is weirdly custard-like and I’m just not a fan of that.
It’s similar with cheesecake (although cheesecake texture is a little more granular and less custard) where I don’t like the way it feels but at least a good cheesecake has a sweetness and if there’s enough stuff put on it or in it, then it can be quite tasty.
I’ve only had a few pumpkin pies that have pulled it off and even then it’s C-tier dessert at its best.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
I think a 40+ hour game is fine if its justified in being 40+ hours. I think the real problem is it feels like so many games these days have around 10 - 15 hours of story and set pieces and then 30 hours of just pure filler slapped on top of it in the name of some strange value proposition. I'd rather you just gave me the version without the filler tbh, even if it makes it a 10 hour game.
@Pizzamorg this is indeed the problem I’m having. You can definitely have an adventure that spans 30-40h, but there’s no merit when everyone is doing it because it’s not something everyone does greatly. facepalm

In terms of desserts that are popular that I just don't like... crème brûlée. About gagged the last time I tried eating one.
Not really gaming related, and probably a more uniquely American issue, but it amazes me that fast food joints stay in business these days. They're practically as expensive as some restaurants and diners now. The food quality has degraded wildly over the years, to the point where it's difficult to call much of it "food" in the first place. And you can easily spend 10 - 20 minutes in line waiting for this expensive slop in the drive-thru.
It used to be argued that bad food was cheap compared to what people should be eating, and that is still true to some extent, but you're honestly paying way more grabbing a Big Mac combo and grabbing a coffee from Starbucks than you are grilling you own hamburgers and making your own coffee. And cooking a hamburger is, like, the simplest thing in the world.
@Ralizah agree on fast food. Why would I get a chicken burger or drumsticks when I can just make my own chicken and have it way tastier and cheaper to boot. Plus meal prepping is shockingly easy. Me and my dad were tired beyond belief this morning But we had baith tamat (eggs tomatoe scrambled dish) that was made yesterday evening but was really well kept and tasted exactly the same. We had it on some untoasted toast so it’s easier to wrap, we do prefer wrapping our breads and flatbreads.
Chicken… burgers… everything is just so easy. I’ve made some mutton burger yesterday and took zero effort.
creme brûlée… why is that something I never had >.>…. I’ve eaten custard and crème caramel before, but crème brûlée remains completely foreign to me. Probably not that popular in Kuwait. It kinda is just custard from the looks of it which doesn’t sound that impressive.

@Yousef- Tasteless custard with burnt sugar topping it. You're not missing out!
And yeah, food is so easy to make, and it's gonna be so much healthier eating at home. And tastier! All I can conclude is that, laziness aside, some people just enjoy eating garbage. Which makes sense, considering the addictive additives they pump into these "food" items.
