Samurai Champloo - Missed first half. Second half was enough for me to get back into it. Forgot how good it was.
Naruto Shippuden - That frog singing was almost too much, lol. Looks like the gang are getting closer to confronting the current bad guys.
One Piece - Looks like they've headed right into an enemy trap, and man, do those henchmen designs look ludicrous...
@Tasuki, @WanderingBullet, yeah, I don't dislike Naruto, but it's never really excited me either.
Despite the fact I'm not all that into it, I do "get" it, if that makes any sense. I understand that it was the DBZ for the next generation of anime fans, so I guess I can understand the fandom (and I guess One Piece is the DBZ for the newest anime fan generation, though that's a hard one for me to swallow, lol).

@RR529: I really like Samurai Champloo. Whoever thought that Hip-Hop and R&B would work so well in a samurai anime set during the Edo period. Not only the that, I thought both the characters and story were great as well. One of my favorite episodes was the one where they played baseball. XD
@RR529: @Tasuki: i like both Naruto and One Piece but i can see where your coming from, they aint the masterpieces people make them out to be (kind of like the original Star Wars movies in that regard) but i still enjoy them
although the Mangas for both series are MUCH better than the Animes are especially Naruto as the manga ended over a year ago but the Anime has been bogged down with a year of poor filler that doesn't seem to be ending any time soon (and they say Bleach was bogged down with filler but it has nothing on Naruto)
out of curiosity anyone here watched Magi The Labyrinth of Magic and The Kingdom of Magic? and what did you think?

@TripleGK: yeah i agree but it was still a pretty good adaptation and i'm currently up to volume 10 of Magi right now as i'm catching up on The Seven Deadly sins manga (can only get so many at a time)

@themcnoisy, I've watched both of them, if I can help.
The Conqueror of Shamballa is a conclusion to the original anime, while the Sacred Star of Milos is sort of a side story that takes place in the Brotherhood continuity.
I liked them both.

@RR529: Cool, yup Im a bit worried as there were 2 canon storylines which you have already answered to a degree. Brotherhood is the anime series i have watched.
Will I understand what's going on in Shamballa?

@themcnoisy: I haven't yet. I have them queued up though. I can watch the Brotherhood movie soon if you want to know if it's worth it though. It's about time I do anyway. I would pass on the Shamballa movie of you haven't seen the original series though. I haven't seen it, but I can't see why'd you'd just watch the end of the series.
@themcnoisy: Basically here is the breakdown of it
Fullmetal Alchemist --Follows the Manga loosely. Parts of it they had were changed and had to be created since the series caught up to the Manga before the Manga was finished.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood — Follows the Manga pretty much word for word.
If you have seen FMA then you won't get Shambella it's the ending to the first series. Especially due to the changes they make with the homunculi.
@Tasuki: Yeah we were talking about that earlier in this thread (months ago) that the anime caught upto the manga halfway through and the anime team wrote their own ending. Pretty neat. I will watch the sacred milos film first! At least I will understand the back story.

@themcnoisy: Alot of anime series did that. They start producing a tv series before the Manga is done and catch up to it so rather then wait they make their own up. Inuyasha did that and so did Rorouni Kenshin that I can think of off the top of my head at this moment.

I think Greed, Wrath and Pride are all brilliant. I couldn't imagine them differently - or doing different things. Arrghhh my head hurts now. Maybe pride is the good guy in the original anime and greed tries to take over?

@themcnoisy: It's hard to explain and would spoiler the sErie for you but, pretty much they swapped the names around and whose in charge IIRC. It's been awhile since I have seen them so I forget which parts are different in which series.

5. Satoshi Urushihara (Plastic Little, Legend of Lemnear, Chirality) - TBH, of what I've read of his, it's pretty standard Sci-Fi & Fantasy stuff. I'm more into his stuff for the fanservice (his stuff actually has stories though, and is more than just fanservice scene after fanservice scene, it's just not groundbreaking).
4. Syun Matsuena (History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi) - The creator of a long running shonen that seemed to be buried under all the more popular long running shonen. I found it, and enjoyed it much more than it's more popular brethren. I think the excessive fanservice probably limits it's appeal in the west, but again, I'm not one to turn down fanservice, and it truly is a good martial arts shonen if you like/get past the fanservice (I haven't watched the anime, though).
3. Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball) - The guy probably has the most unique style in the business, and DBZ is probably the anime I'm most nostalgic towards. Unfortunately, none of his other manga look like they'd interest me, but I do like his work in the Dragon Quest games.
2. Nobuhiro Watsuki (Rurouni Kenshin) - While Kenshin isn't my favorite manga, I find it to be objectively the best. I just love the sharpness to the art style, and the series is long enough to feel like a grand story, while being short enough to drag on. There's literally no "fat" to speak of. It's just so tight.
1. Rumiko Takahashi (InuYasha, Ranma 1/2, Kyokai no Rinne, Mermaid Saga) - As you can see I've read quite a bit of her work. InuYasha has to be my favorite anime/manga series of all time, and though I've been a big fan of the anime for years, I hadn't actually read the manga until a couple of years ago. With the differences between it and the anime, it was like taking a whole new trip through the series, and it was magical. Also, I simply like her style so I've enjoyed her other work as well.
I'll finish this later, 3DS battery is running low.
You're right about Akira Toriyama. No manga artist that I know of draws like him. As for Rumiko Takahashi, I've seen only seen the odd episodes here and there of both Ranma 1/2 and InuYasha a while back when they aired it here. Are the InuYasha movies any good?
I had to google both Satoshi Urushihara and Syun Matsuena and noticed that there are animes of their works as well. Would you recommend any of them as I don't collect mangas anymore.

As for the InuYasha movies, watching one might actually be a good way to gauge your interest in the series.
They're all (technically noncanonical) side stories that should give you a good general idea of what watching the show would be like, though as the main cast is all accounted & present in them, there might be some spoilers to events in the story that happened before that particular movie is supposed to take place (motivations, etc.).
My absolute favorite of them is the 2nd one (Castle Beyond the Looking Glass), but it's probably the most "spoiler" prone, as it's the only one where the main villain plays a part. My second favorite is the 1st (Affections Touching Across Time), and would probably be your best bet, but quite a lot of people like the 3rd (Swords of an Honerable Ruler) the best.
As for anime of Satoshi Urushihara's works, Plastic Little (SU) is an OVA about an hour long and readily available on YouTube last I checked (same can be said for Legend of Lemnear, but I didn't like it quite as much). It should be noted that the Plastic Little manga is actually a 10 chapter followup to the OVA & not a straight adaptation, which is kinda cool.
As for Syun Matsuena's works, I haven't actually gotten into the HSDK anime. Funimation had the first few episodes available on YouTube for free, but unfortunately I found it to be quite cheap looking and was disappointed. May try it out again eventually, though.
