@Shellcore It reminds me of how the Smash Melee community reacted to Smash 4 existing at tourneys.
Like...all the previous stuff didn't suddenly get wiped from existence. It's still there to play. BOTW, Odyssey, Dark Souls, all is there still to buy, advertised (I saw a BOTW ad yesterday actually) and all those core games will still come in the future.
Labo is a side thing (I'm shocked people don't see that) for a side market.
Let there be miracles in looking at something logically right?
And no, I won't kick off. I think the reaction in the form of "OMG WHAT AARE YOU DOING THIS RUINS SWITCH BWAAAAAH" is...completely missing the point.
Anyway, they have confirmed the games can be played without the cardboard, the games will be sold separately, the blueprints will be available online and can be made out of whatever you want if you are creative enough, it can be replaced by yourself or Nintendo, and the cost of $70-80 is cardboard AND a game.

Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Now I know why I can't find the Super Mario Cereal anywhere. When the shipment of boxes arrived someone at Nintendo didn't get the memo that it was for the cereal.

@Kidfried So I got it, Nintendo CEOs have been replaced by a race of alien cat people. If you have ever given a cat an empty cardboard box then you know it's true.

It's a neat idea. I don't think it will last (as a product or as an idea), but it certainly looks like it would be fun to build that stuff.
It's still not enough to sell the Switch for me, but it's a tiny step closer. Switch VR will be a joke like phone VR, but I'm glad they are at least dipping their toes in VR.
EDIT: I would rather see them sell templates or a kit that includes plastic bits for the important parts (moving/joints/stress areas) and allow you to use your own cardboard for the rest. Paying $70 for a big pile of cardboard for a robot that might only last a couple play sessions seems risky.

This is as innovative as anything in the last five years. VR was an inevitability and Kinect was... Kinect. It's not for me and I won't be dipping my toes into it at all, but while everyone else measures fun in framerates and pixel counts, Nintendo are like HERE'S A TOY. I'm sure it'll be a hit.
Well I think it is a bit pointless and I also think it is too early for this kinda gimmick but I am not a kid and I could see it selling bucket loads. For me though and my kids, too expensive.
Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot
Ahhh, so this is why they haven't launched their online service, or made a joycon with a decent Dpad, or launched the virtual console. They have everyone scrambling to make premium cardboard "toys" for a $300 handheld....

Yeah I see that. One things for sure game newsfeeds have been choka with labo. So its worked out for Nintendo so far.

I don't expect them for free, but Nintendo had better be willing to sell Labo cardboard materials at a reduced cost to people when these things inevitably get destroyed.
Designs aren't enough. I have no interest in re-fashioning my own materials, especially when I won't have the strings, pulleys, etc. that are inevitably included in official Nintendo sets.
So, for now, I'll wait and watch. I love Nintendo, but they make too many stupid decisions for me to trust them on this venture yet.

Yep it's pretty sad to see where their priorities are.

@Octane I have a Pro controller, I couldn't handle playing Shovel Knight, Steamworld Dig 2, or Gunvolt with the joycons. The problem is the Switch Pro controller Dpad feels significantly inferior to the Dpad on the WiiU pro controller. Feels very stiff. It's perplexing to me because Nintendo is always the gold standard for Dpads on controllers, but the switch pro just feels terrible. I'd love to have a joycon with a Dpad for mobile play, even if it is inferior, still better than the buttons IMO.
@Octane Which is why Nintendo is a shell.of it's former self. Gamers want a VC, updated controllers with a dpad not robot suits made out of cardboard. What are we 10 years old?? And Nintendo fans wonder why Sony and MS fans consider Nintendo the kiddie company.

@Tasuki To be fair, that's like saying we want PSOne Classics on PS4, and more PS2 Classics as well. I'd also like to change my name on PSN while we're at it. But Sony is focusing on those smartphone Playlink apps instead.
I don't think the team that worked on Labo is the same team that is responsible for d-pads or VC. So in a way, it doesn't take away any resources.
It's not for me, and it's way too expensive for what it seems to be, but whatever. If it sells more Switches, it's fine. Because that means the Switch will see get lifespan than the Wii U, and more games too.
