@Kidfried Great thoughts on the game! I hadn’t really noted the music like I did with Tchia, but I definitely agree with your other points. Also, the way the cat runs around taking orders didn’t bother me too much, although I can see how that is at odds with the usual cat personality.
I’m glad you bring up the lighting, because the use of neon and interesting color palettes is stunning in some of the areas. The performance is fairly solid too. I’m not a frame rate expert, but it felt like a consistent 60 fps throughout, with only a few times when it stuttered during an autosave or a transition. If I’m not mistaken it’s native 4K and 60 fps, which is rare for a game. Usually it sacrifices one or the other. I don’t believe there’s any ray tracing, but the lighting and reflections look great without it. The DualSense features are nice, and I liked the purring controller when sleeping. 😄
I do think that the studio certainly has a ready-made sequel idea for a protagonist dog! Perhaps they could call it “Fetch” or “Heel”. 😅

@Kidfried No worries, we all have our unique preferences and annoyances. It’s not weird at all!
As for the next game, I’m not sure what @AgentCooper has in mind. With Stray off the PS+ Extra buffet now, I think most people who were going to play it have finished now. We could either get a early run at August, or take a break for a couple weeks.
I think Toy Story 2 was the other game in contention last month.
I’ve heard a couple recent recommendations and would throw Inscryption into the mix, but yeah, it might make sense to have something more gameplay heavy.

Morning all, I’ve been wanting to avoid doubling up on a month but perhaps July should be the exception given our game left plus. Toy Story 2 was tied so is it a safe shout with everyone to suggest playing that until August? I’ll do a proper post asap, I’ve not been around much so a bit behind on the admin.
@AgentCooper I’m with you either way, buddy. I won’t likely participate with Toy Story 2, but am happy to follow along and see how people like it. If you want to make it the August game that’s fine, or divide it up so that it’s just a short term game and then we do another one in August that’s fine too.

@Kidfried@Th3solution I think given we have almost 2 weeks left in the month we can easily pop Toy Story in as a bonus game for July and begin voting for an August game, how does that sound?

@Kidfried $6 is a fair price, to be sure. I also have a bit of a time crunch this week. I might get a small amount of gaming in but will be otherwise engaged for the weekend when I do most of my gaming. If the group really like TS2 then maybe I pick it up for the future though!

I will say, as a voter of Toy Story 2 and having only seen the updates to this thread today. That I probably won't find enough to start and finish the game within the next 10 days. I might try but I doubt it because the task seems insurmountable to me right now.
If the choice went a week or two into August before the game changes again, then it might be feasible
@ralphdibny Apologies buddy, I haven’t had the time today to do a full update. Bit of a weird one this month with Stray being removed. How about we run until 7th August and start a new game then? If there’s some overlap at that point, it might not be the end of the world.

@AgentCooper could be an idea, just gives a bit of breathing room and is less anxiety inducing. Having said that, seeing this come up today has spurred me on to finally start Perfect Dark for the PX club
I'm always a bit on the fence about whether to say something here because I know you are doing it a bit differently from the PX club and it's not really my place to come in and say "this is how it should be" because I'm not some arbiter of how to best run a game club lol
I do agree in many respects that a month is a long time for one game but it is an easy metric to keep to. 3 weeks may be more reasonable but is harder for the audience to keep track of. Anything less than that would exclude people with full-time jobs and other responsibilities (of which you are one!) or avenues of entertainment. I don't think the game club choice is the only game that people will play in a month and while it's good to play together in this format, I personally think it needs to run adjacent to a user's autonomous selection of game(s) they may be playing that month as well as non gaming personal commitments they may have.
But yeah, by all means run Toy Story 2 into the first week of August and run another game for the final 3 weeks of August before reverting back to a monthly schedule again. If you want to that is, that is just what I would do in this situation without having to roll any decisions back. Or maybe you want to try moving to a 3 week schedule after that in general. It's not a bad idea and may work better with the larger and generally more engaged community on Push Square.
That said, consistency and simplicity is key to continued engagement and is also beneficial to you as the administrator because it reduces the risk of burnout by trying to work on this game club too much. So maybe monthly games would be better (after the next two 3 week games)
@AgentCooper sorry, didn't mean to seem like a patronising knobhead in my previous reply 😅 - just in case I come across that way!
It's hard to offer an opinion on something when you do the same thing somewhere else without coming across poorly. Which is why I mentioned that I'm apprehensive to offer opinions here
@ralphdibny Don’t be daft, I didn’t read anything like that. I have and continue to appreciate your council on this here club shenanigans, it’s still very new and also a massive leap socially for me as I’m trying to stretch a bit more with these platforms.
Personally i see this as a one off and normal service will resume in September as it is much cleaner and easier for people to engage with if it’s one game a month.
👍

@AgentCooper ok thank goodness 😅, thank you for the reassurance 👍. I'm just a bit of a mess lately and I'm constantly questioning everything I do and everything I say. Just lacking confidence/self esteem right now, I guess!
I've booted up Toy Story 2, and it's certainly nostalgic. I've played through the first level, collecting all the tokens there. So far it seems like a fairly ordinary 3D platformer for that era, but it's something I'll like. The old style PS1 controls will take some getting used to though. Buzz only having a single running speed does make the more precise platforming sections trickier.
One minor detail that I love about the game is, when in 1st person targeting mode, Buzz's face appears due the reflection from his helmet. It's such a small detail that I'm surprised to see added to a PS1 game.
In case anyone else likes reading manuals, the Internet Archive has a copy that I'll link below. Most of the instructions are things that players will likely figure out on their own, but I'll point out one thing from there. Jumping with X then doing a melee attack (circle) does a ground pound.
