Last year DOOM Eternal was one of this year most anticipated and hyped games. Then it released and no one talks about it anymore, except for this public spat with the composer. So the conclusion is and lets be honest, after everything have been said and done. It was just not a really good game, and everyone just jumped to the next thing..
But in all this i find it strange that no one ever mention, that Bethesda tried to force everyone to make a Bethesda online account for the game. If you try play DOOM Eternal offline singleplayer, you will be constantly reminded you must have a Bethesda online account with a flashing sign on the screen.
When bs like this is put into singleplayer games, where is the journos to critic this bs, was it not in their review copy??..
@TheBuzz I hate it when they force you to sign up for whatever. Maybe it's why I stopped playing games like MSGV and MH World; those games wouldn't shut up about signing up, logging in, my internet connection, etc. I still don't understand how MH World works, I had to create a server, and not invite anyone, just to play single player, or something like that. Definitely weird.
@TheBuzz it's possible it wasn't in review copies, some developers do leave stuff out in order to get a better score
just look at Activision and Crash Team Racing, everyone gave it great scores based on the review copies and initial launch version and then afterwards they patched in microtransactions that ruined it
it shouldn't be allowed, if a game is going to force you to make an account or have MXT's then they should be there from day one and in review copies otherwise it gives people the wrong impression

in fact the first few Harry Potter games were fun, Philosophers Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban were great little action RPGs but after those they got a bit generic, Goblet of Fire was a hack and Slash (probably to capitalise on the success of the 2 Lord of the Rings games), Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince were GTA style but still fun in their own way and exploring Hogwarts was nice and The Deathly Hallows were 3rd person shooters and pretty shallow ones at that
kinda wish that rumoured Wizarding World RPG was true now

I remember buying Street Fighter V Champion Edition the other day and when booting it up, I could not access any of the DLC characters (which should be on the disc and not a code, darn greedy Capcom) without accepting terms and conditions, and logging in which I don't feel like doing. I did actually play one of the arcade modes without logging in and at the start and the end and also during the continue I need during my run, it asked if I wanted to log in. Games are getting increasingly intrusive when it comes to this sort of stuff. No, i do not want an individual account for every single company, or in some cases, individual games.
Regarding DOOM Eternal specifically and whether it is a good game or not, I can't comment as I don't own it yet. I got DOOM 2016 for about £15 a couple of years ago and only played through it about 3 months ago. Eternal looks great based on what I have seen, but given how quickly 2016 went down in price, I am waiting for the same thing to happen to Eternal. It does seem weird how people have stopped talking about it though, but then again, Animal Crossing came out the same day and some people were starting to play FFVII Remake because were being shipped very early due to Covid-19 havoc, so people were probably busy playing other games.
@FullbringIchigo I can remember the PS2 era games but never played beyond the third. I put a lot of time into Quidditch World Cup. Damn those licensed games, EA could never publish again.
Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

Uh, the soundtrack is talked so much about because it’s fantastic and it’s from a best game. I’m not sure how it not being talked about a lot (even though the soundtrack is being talked about, which I’d say counts because it involves the future of the series, since people want more Doom games) means all of a sudden in retrospect the game isn’t very good.
@FullbringIchigo When I had my first child I sold a lot of my retro games because they were stored in the baby rooms and now 8 yrs later I am buying a lot of them back. Quiddith World Cup is one I sold but on my list for a future buy! I also recently bought Batman Begins for the PS2 as I thought that was a great licensed game and actually paved the way a lot for Arkham Asylum.

@Rudy_Manchego oh completely understand, i would have been in a similar situation myself but luckily we have a storage room underneath the stairs so i boxed mine up and put them there

@Rudy_Manchego well you didn't miss much, it wasn't a very good system

@FullbringIchigo I am most gutted about the Atari Jaguar I had and never played that is now worth over £160.
There was a point in time when Game were selling those for £10 or £20 each. I had one from not too long after launch that my Dad bought super cheap when Rumbelows went bust. It packed up working eventually, and I never saw it's value rise. Did manage to sell off some of the games for a decent amount some years back.
Also, somewhere in my parents house is a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Saturn, complete in it's cardboard sleeve. I've not been able to track it down, but it's there somewhere...
@phil_j i think my oldest game still in the box is Super Mario Bros 2 on the NES, still on really good nick too

@FullbringIchigo I liked Aliens VS Predator and yeah, it is all about the rarity of the collection now.
@phil_j Wow- Rumbelows is a blast from the past. I think I bought mine second hand in 1999 for a tenner.
I have all most NES games in their original cardboard boxes but alas, I never kept the cardboard cases for my SNES games which is annoying. Same for the Gameboy games
