@colonelkilgore Excellent, do you think you will try more of his work? (Eno says his ambient records are designed to be background music, so you listened to it in the ideal way, anything from his ambient works should be up your street if you liked that).
@Jimmer-jammer I'm very into obscure music and often listen to Late Junction on BBC Radio 3, ever heard that? It's where most of the obscure records in my collection are derived from.

@Draco_V_Ecliptic I probably will try a bit more actually... it has triggered a bit of curiosity. I figure that I'll pretty much always be a podcast guy when I'm doing something but it doesnt hurt to mix it up every now and then 👍
@Thrillho Thanks, checking it out on BBC Sounds now. First track is pleasant but none of it compares to the mighty Brian Eno, I can tell that even fairly early on in the podcast.
@Draco_V_Ecliptic They’re nice playlists to work to and they’re curated by different people so have different vibes. I’ve listened to some of the classical ones for similar reasons as I quite like modern classical music to work to as well.
This is from an album I picked up recently from one playlist;
@Draco_V_Ecliptic no I haven’t heard of that. I’ll have to check it out. I’m fortunate to live in an area with an awesome local radio station, CKUA.
It’s 100% listener funded, with actual DJ’s who choose what they want to play, no playlists. They always have some interesting knowledge to share about the artist and their song, or trivia about their equipment or songwriting process and where they are playing. A good balance of world and local music from classical to afrobeat, it’s all in there. It’s fantastic and I highly recommend checking it out. Thanks for the recommendation!

@Jimmer-jammer I'll be sure to check out CKUA, I love classical music and admire the philosophy of the DJs being able to play whatever they would like to. I hope you enjoy Late Junction, you can stream it online, you just need to sign up for a free BBC account, give it a try and let me know what you think of whichever episode you decide to listen to.

@Draco_V_Ecliptic will do, thanks! If it helps, CKUA is based out of Edmonton, Alberta and originally born out of the University of Alberta where it began broadcasting in 1927. It can be streamed online as well. Their classical series are excellent.
I’ll try and check Late Junction out today. I spend a lot of time daily in a semi so I’m always looking for this type of thing. Thanks!
@Jimmer-jammer Thanks, listening now, they are currently playing The Moody Blues - just seguewayed into Tannis Slimmon - nice!. What kind of obscure records do you like and what would you recommend within that style?

@Thrillho Listened to the track you posted and really enjoyed it. Do you like any Max Richter work, Late Junction on BBC Radio 3 and/or Brian Eno's solo material?

@Draco_V_Ecliptic within that style I would recommend Jenn Grant’s album ‘The Beautiful Wild‘ - with the song ‘White Dove’ being one of my favourite songs ever.
Jill Barber’s song ‘The Woman’ is a good place to get a feel for her style.
Maybe try The Decemberists album, ‘What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World.
Lately I’ve been enjoying Mike Edel, The New Pornographers, Charlie Winston and Mighty Mystic (definitely check out his song ‘Concrete World’) off the top of my head.

@Draco_V_Ecliptic gotcha. I’m not 100% certain what you mean by left field but give me a bit to feel this out...
Ghost Woman is doing cool stuff, recording strictly to tape with a real 70’s vibe.
I quite like Mitchmatic on an R&Bish front with a unique sense of humour.
Kid Koala is an insanely talented DJ with his ‘12bit Blues’ album worth a listen.
I’m not sure how helpful I’ll be as I don’t tend to stray too far out into ‘free-jazzy’ musical weirdness but what would you suggest to me? I’ll listen to anything just to hear it 😊
Edit: the album is 12bit blues - 8bit blues is a song from it. Corrected!
@Jimmer-jammer Alice Kemp ,Kate Carr, Amirtha Kidambi & her Elder Ones outfit. Did you listen to Late Junction? They have played a lot of what I like, including all those artists, and should give you a feel for what I mean.
@Draco_V_Ecliptic I didn’t get a chance to listen until last night and I have to say, it’s a bloody fantastic program!
I was only able to listen to the first hour, but I chose the recent “songs of apocalyptic hope” as that sounded cool. What a great first impression! I certainly wasn’t expecting to hear Jim Henson so that was neat. My neighbour lived in Ghana for 20 years so that added a welcome layer of depth to Alostmen’s song and I didn’t know what a kologo was so I learned something there.
Standouts for me so far were: Ed Dowie, Sparkle Division (loved this one), Gabriel Prokoviev (what a trip) and Electrelane.
I love this kind of stuff but my personal catalogue is in admittedly short supply. My rec’s were from my collection and memory so I probably can’t offer you much but I love what I’m hearing from this. Great recommendation, thank you!
Any other Mogwai fans? I'm looking forward to the new album after hearing the second track they've released for it. I do like the few tracks they do with vocals.
