If you're going to download retail 3DS games, then definitely get a 32 GB. If you're buying physical carts and aren't planning on downloading anything, then you could last a long time with an 8 GB card.

Yeah if you plan on downloading full releases then yeah you are going to need a large SD card. If you are going to do like me and just download VC games well then you can get away with a small one.
