@DerMeister I really enjoyed the combat in tlou! I loved the stealth and the crafting system was quick to make use of once you got used to it. That shotgun, too!
@Ralizah True, though I also mention story and acting in the same breath for that reason. The performances by the cast really help bring it to life. I really felt the emotion come off the characters.
Now that I think about it, maybe my playstyle didn't match the game. Generally, whenever I'm told resources are limited I hoard like crazy, to the point where I did so for the side weapons like molotovs (which I only used against Bloaters). Since I rarely used the stuff you can craft aside from health and shivs, I probably gave myself a harder time, but maybe I'll play it again to make sure.
@ApostateMage I actually liked Ellie's section. Mostly because her switchblade is basically an unlimited shiv, giving me one less thing to worry about.

@DerMeister To be honest it probably was your play style. I've struggled with some games (Resi 4 comes to mind, shoot in the knee > run up and kick > finish with knife was a game changer for me) and it's not until I've watched some videos of others playing the game or been told my friends how I should be doing it that it clicks.
Take Doom for example, my friend has been trying to play it like a cover shooter and wonders why it's so hard lol
@KratosMD Yeah, but I never would have gotten this impression from the game. All it tells me is "supplies are limited, play carefully". I didn't want to potentially waste molotovs or bombs, so I only used them when I was really in a pinch. Never know when a bloater or horde of infected decides to pop up, after all. Maybe I should have experimented more, but again, "supplies are limited, play carefully" discouraged me from doing so. It didn't help that a lot of thosd shared materials, so when it was time to make either health or molotovs, of course I picked health.
As for that sewer section, I didn't even attempt to stealth kill everything. I just tried to sneak past everything. After nearly an hour of it, I gave up and ran. There were too many enemies to deal with in that area. Last thing I wanted to do was start a fight.
But yeah, I'll try the game again someday. That first playthrough was rough though.

@DerMeister As much as I love TLOU, I do get where you are coming from. This was the first game I played on my PS4 when I got it and moving to a new controller and this game through me. I horded everything and tried to fight hand to hand to save munitions and was just replaying sections over and over again. Then I got about half way through and realised I was just turning down materials because I had no inventory space. So I started to use more resources throughout the game but I think by then, I had actually got through the most difficult earlier sections. So I was cursing the game first part and then got used to the mechanics by the second. I then played the game again straight after (I was recovering from an operation on the second playthrough and had lots of time) and actually enjoyed the gameplay. It is worth a replay.
Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot
@Rudy_Manchego Yeah, I was having the exact same problem. I wasn't expecting the amount of materials you find for sure.

It's a pretty great game, though I don't think it'll go down as one of my favorite Metroid or 3DS games looking back on it. It's a vast improvement over the original Metroid II (the omnidirectional aiming in particular should be a must in any future 2D Metroids), but I didn't think SR388 was a particularly interesting world to explore. Don't get me wrong, the attention to detail in the backgrounds was fantastic, but there wasn't really anything environmentally unique about one region over another. One room may be swampish, the next technological, then volcanic, all in the same area (which weren't even given unique names, just Area 1, Area 2, etc.). Only Areas 7 & 8 looked like they had a particular theme throughout. Fun game, though.

@themcnoisy Ha, ha! Yeah, I got like 75% of the way through Broken Age and I just haven't been able to make myself finish it. It's one of those games that bugs me that I never finished because I know I'm pretty close to the end, but just have no interest in doing it, except for the trophies. I probably never will. Unless you tell me the ending is something special.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Th3solution some of the trophies are glitched. Theres one hidden one which is at 1.4% completion, yet you need to have the prerequisites for that trophy in order to get one which is at over 5%. So annoying. And its near the end.
The games ok, but it tries to be too clever and some of the puzzles are way passed logical thought. With all point and clicks and walking simulator type games you cant view a guide to appreciate them, else you just bypass the dialouge and feel of the characters. But with broken age and tbf the length of time between playthroughs that was more often than I would like to admit.

@themcnoisy yeah, I enjoyed Broken Age but there were some parts of it that I needed a guide because the solutions were bizarre. I think the main reason I enjoyed it is that it felt different than a lot of other games I played, but the act of self-discovery was definitely hindered by needing one.
In my backlog cleaning effort, I've so far finished Fire Emblem Echoes, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, Batman Arkham Origins, Jak and Daxter, and Kingdom Hearts 1. Still got a ways to go, but progress is made.

@DerMeister Just wondering, how did you find Fire Emblem Echoes? I'm a really big Fire Emblem fan, and have played a lot of games in the series, but looking into it in detail, it seemed like the gameplay in Echoes was a bit iffy, with lots of the map design just being terrible open fields. I have heard the story is good though, which does interest me. I loved Fire Emblem Fates Conquest for its map design and overall gameplay, it was incredible, but the story made me want to pull my hair out, and it seems like Echoes might be the reverse scenario
@BranJ0 The maps in Echoes can be dull at times, especially the deserts in Celica's route and the game's dungeons, but I felt the challenge, especially at the later stages, did a good job of masking it. The story is pretty good, written well enough, and has great voice acting to boot. If you can get past how oddball it is in comparison to the other games, it's worth a playthrough.

@KratosMD Ahhh okay, that makes more sense. It's a shame the developers didn't spruce up the maps a bit from the original Gaiden, but as long as they're still quite good, I think I'll enjoy playing this! The main reason I asked is that the last Fire Emblem game I played was Revelation, and the map design was so atrocious that it put me off playing Fire Emblem for quite a few months now, but with Warriors just around the corner I'm getting back into the mood, and if the story really is good, I can't wait to play it!
@KratosMD@BranJ0 Yeah, I'd say that's on point with Echoes' maps. I haven't played Awakening or Fates yet, so I couldn't give a direct comparison. I suppose a good reason why the maps feel dull is because you'll likely see the dungeon and overworld maps more than the important ones. The story battles were fun and memorable, but I don't think I could say the same for the battles en route to them.

It's been quite a while since I've actually made it to the end of any game but I did recently beat Actual Sunlight and Home on Vita. They were super short games so that helped. Still gotta go back to 100% Home on Vita and then possibly on PS4.
