I’m yet to play any but I’d imagine the Ratchet & Clank series could be worthy of a mention.

@colonelkilgore i mentioned it , yes , all the ratchet games going back to the first aged like fine wine. some may say the first game is rough , but considering the first game was actually one of the last games i played in the series , i thought it played good .

nowadays you can't really play the ratchet and clank games so easily , since the collection only came out for the ps3 . maybe you could try them with ps now .

@colonelkilgore Another good one! I don't think the series has a single bad game, even the portable ones like Size Matters and spin-offs like All 4 One and Q-Force were good.

@hypnotoad
So is the inclusion criteria simply that the franchise appears on PlayStation? (Ex. Call of Duty, GTA, etc) Or are we asking for just PlayStation exclusives? (Ex. Uncharted, God of War, etc.) Or are we asking for franchises which are somewhat synonymous with PlayStation but not necessarily exclusive? (Ex. Persona, Final Fantasy, Yakuza, etc)

I would have 3 different lists for each scenario.

@Ralizah GTA 4 did have an online component but it was pretty limited.

That said, it had one game mode that was amazing fun that I was surprised never made it into 5. They were called GTA races and essentially you start on foot in one big group and have to make it to a checkpoint on the other side of the city.

You could do this in absolutely any way you wanted and could also pick up weapons to ruin other peoples’ attempts. I remember some comical finishes where people would have got themselves stuck so would be swimming for the finish line while people on motorbikes, in helicopters, in ambulances etc would all be rushing there too. Absolute hilarious carnage.

@Thrillho Oh wow. Somehow I never stumbled across any of the online elements, then.

That racing thing sounds like a lot of fun, actually.

For once, Dance Dance Revolution is actually relevant to the discussion. That’s a Playstation franchise through and through.

@Keith_Zissou The original Oddworld has a special place for me as it was one of the few games my dad would play with me (don't worry he's not dead, it's just that he was never a gamer other than for Colin McRae Rally on PS1). We spent ages playing the game and I don't think we ever finished it. I was only about 12 at the time and we enjoyed doing the whistling and farting sounds from the game

The Yakuza series is great fun and easy to play them now they released the remasters of 3-5 as well. With Zero also being part of the main series, it can be a bit daunting seeing as there are seven games in the series which are all one continuous story (I guess Zero can be skipped as it was a prequel but it's one of the best in the series). I played the games over two three years; my first trophy for Zero popped Sept 2018 and my final for Yakuza 6 just last month!

Final Fantasy is almost the complete opposite though as each game is a standalone game with no link to any others, although a few have had spin off versions. It's weird as I'd say I really like the games but have actually only played 6-8 and the remake of 7.

Voltan

@Thrillho I know it’s easier said than done when everyone has a growing backlog already, but you should at least play FFIX
It was the PS1 game I bought despite not owning a PS1 - played it with an emulator and it actually worked quite well

Voltan

Thrillho

@Voltan Yeah, I've only ever heard good things about it! I think they did a spruced up version for the PS4 so I might have to... at some point!

@nessisonett @Ralizah Funny you guys chatting about Crash this week, as its his 25th Birthday!

@JohnnyShoulder Somehow the thing that ages the pictures the most is seeing a physical Blockbuster store 😂

@JohnnyShoulder one of the ‘delights’ derived from my second playthrough of The Last of Us part 2 (totally missed it during my first playthrough somehow 🤷‍♂️) was the name of one of Eugene’s porno vid’s being Smash Brandy’s Cooch. Of all the little bits of genius that game holds… maybe ‘that’ stands above all of them 🤣

@Thrillho haha my dad would only play TOCA 2 with me on PlayStation 1 as well 😅. Dad's must like the driving games lol

Weirdly, I was playing through some tracks on WRC 8 as it was a Game with Gold on Xbox (same as a PS plus game) a lil while back and my dad actually took some interest in it but I didn't have much to say about it because I only played it for a few hours because I thought it was trash.

Shame he never said anything about me playing Forza Horizon 4 fairly frequently. I'd have loads to say about that because it's one of my favourite games!

See ya!

Thrillho

@ralphdibny Ha, the original TOCA was another we’d play. Personally, I just enjoyed playing as the tank and blowing everyone else up rather than racing.

Thrillho

ralphdibny

@Thrillho haha nice, I don't think the second one had a tank!

That reminds me that a great if a little short lived PlayStation franchise is Destruction Derby. I loved playing Destruction Derby 2 when I was a kid!

@Thrillho haha it's so funny that it's got a working gun on it as well lol

See ya!
