During last nights gaming with a number of our pushsquare forum clan, It became apparent not everyone has played many Mario games. I was completely shocked being the longterm fan of the gameplay from Mario's Cement factory for the game and watch through to Mario Maker on wii u.
What I want to know is;
What Mario games have you missed that you want to play?

Got pretty far on one of the Super Mario Worlds on Gameboy Colour (think it was SMW3?) played about 10 minutes of 64 and Sunshine and a bit on my friends Snes when I was a kid but largely none.
A short, fat, moustached Italian plumber in overalls just never really appealed to me, I guess.
I played Mario 64 a lot, and got quite far in Mario Sunshine. Also played most of the older 2D ones at one point or another when I was younger. I always vastly preferred Crash Bandicoot, though.
I pretty much lost interest in Mario (and platformers in general) as I got older. Haven't properly played a Mario game in years now.
Having been raised as a Nintendarian since I was 3, I believe the first videogame I've ever played is SM64, but I might have played Ocarina before that. However, I've played extensively 64 (and the DS remake as well) , Sunshine, Galaxy 1&2, NSMB (DS), 3D Land and 3D World. I've also played the original 3 (but never the Japanese SMB2 a.k.a. The Lost Levels), World and NSMBW but I've never owned them so I've only played them occasionally. I also love the Mario & Luigi RPG series; the 1st one (Superstar Saga) is still one of my favorite games ever.
I've played each and every Mario Kart, a couple of Mario Party's and the Strikers games (though I only owned the first one for GC, what a game!).
Played some of the original Super Mario Bros., but I never beat that game. I started with Super Mario World, so I missed out on the first three. I don't have any intention of playing them anytime soon, but when the entire gaming industry crashes and when we're left with only Candy Crush and microtransactions, I gladly go back to those games!
Out of the mainline Mario games, I have never played / beaten Sunshine. It's never really appealed to me, in both the concept and aesthetic, to be honest.
I'm seriously tempted to switch to my Mario avatar.
Anyway, out of the main platformers, I haven't played Sunshine, Galaxy 2 (I really should because Galaxy may be my favorite), New SMB DS, Mario Land on GBC, and all entries on Wii U and 3DS, since I don't have those systems. World 2 is another if it counts (since it's Yoshi centric).
Aside from a few Mario Karts, I've never played any spin offs. All the sports games and most of the Mario Party games (only played 8).

I played all the NES and SNES mario games but after playing Mario 64 for a few minutes I decided I hated it... I did not become interested on Mario again until they released New Super Mario Bros on DS... I also liked 3D Land because it played like a classic Mario game even though it was on 3D... I would like to play NSMBU and 3D World but don' want to spend on a Wii U only for 5 games or so that I'm interested on
@sub12: I will advise you to give Sunshine a try then! It's my favourite of the 3D games. It can be a glitchfest at times, but the level design is just amazing. It's the closest thing there is to an actual ''open world'' Mario game.
I've never played Super Mario 3D World. I guess that's the closest game on the Wii U to the 64 / Sunshine / Galaxy series of games, which are probably my favorite Mario games.
@sub12: I agree, I recently bought SMB3 for my son for the DS. Needless to say he got passed the half way castle after a week of trying and was the most happy I have seen him outside of Christmas day.

@themcnoisy: I'm sorry I upset you so much you needed some forum therapy If it's any consolation I'm seriously considering buying a new 3DS this summer to catch up on some of my glaring gaming blackspots, those being Mario games, most Zelda games, Fire Emblem, Donkey Kong, Yoshi games...basically I've missed most of the best Nintendo games
@Hego: Its all your fault lol. Ok its a tough one but Super Mario Bros 3 is the best Nes game ever, its also tough and about £4 so I would strongly recommend that game.
As for the 3d Mario games, hmmmm, it would have to be Mario 64 as its a piece of gaming history.
Both are available on the DS so you have no excuse

My favorites would have to be Super Mario World & Super Mario Galaxy.
In terms of games I haven't played, but would love to. SM64 & Sunshine easily (played a bit of 64 as a kid whenever I rented it, but never actually played it all the way through). Even though it gets a lot of flak, I'd also like to get NSMB2 for my 3DS.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
I used to live for the first game on the Nes, Super Mario Bros. I put so many hours into it as a 6-7 year old. It was amazing. Played most since then but the original SM1,2&3 are the ones I think of when ppl say Mario. Strangely I ain't had a nintendo console since the wii but I plan on the NX and if available I will be getting all the old mario games on it. I still dig out my top loading Nes for a bash or 2 every now and again.
I played one on the Nes no idea which one it was and its the only one I have played. I guess it depends what generation you come from. I grew up mainly in the 80's and so Nintendo or Atari were my console gaming choices. I think if you grew up during that time then chances are you would have played Mario. After that there were a lot more gaming choices so Mario would have got less exposure. Do I crave to play Mario again? well it would be nice but nostalgia is not all its cracked up to be. I was much more a fan of duck hunt.
