I've actually played a fair amount considering I never had many Nintendo machines. The one I've played the most is actually Super Mario Land 2 on the Game Boy, I've completed that lots of times. I've played the older 2D Marios in dribs and drabs, and played Super Mario 64 to death. I've also played most of Galaxy, and a few more handheld ones.

I still enjoy them now. There are plenty of other great platformers around, but there's something about Mario that makes it completely timeless.

Showing my age, but I had a NES as a young un and put countless hours into SMB 1, 2 and 3. Had all the SNES mario games, including kart and some of the spin offs. Played Mario 64 on N64 and DS but the latest gen I got to was Sunshine on GC and never got into it. I never really took up any Mario games in the Wii era and never had a 3DS.

I would like to get back into them, particularly Mario Maker on Wii U. That just hit the nostalgia spot. However, just can't justify the Wii U price tag to play a few games, particularly when I have so many good PS4 games building up. Still, I have nothing but fondness for the franchise.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

@Quintumply: Its strange, Miyamoto literally made the perfect single screen platformer in Donkey Kong, the best 2d horizontally scrolling platformer in SMB and the finest 3d platformer in Mario 64.

I've played most of them (even some of the weird ones like Hotel Mario) but I skipped out on New Super Mario Bros. U-Z-X-Wii-Turn-Left-Please. To be honest, Mario has become very stale and I'd put other platformers like Super Meat Boy, Shovel Knight, Rayman Origins/Legends and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze over it.

It's a shame as Mario was fantastic for a long time.

There was a game idea here. It's gone now.

@Churchy: Your right, but that's happened with virtually all Nintendos older franchises. Even Mario kart!

I like new super Mario bros, but they are easy due to unlimited lives - the real challenge is collecting the stars located in each stage. Give it a go.

All the extra 1ups in SMB1 is my best memory. Level 3.1 I think it was. Last staircase get that turtle and jump on it's head til the timer nearly runs out. lol brilliant. Could do a speed run on that game of about 10-11mins to finish it. Brilliant, still vivid in my mind 30 odd years later lol. Man I need the new NX now.

No 1 Superguy!

@TomKongPhooey: Pretty fast, I'm a huge fan of smb1, its one of the best platformers ever Imo. I need super Mario maker in my life.

@KratosMD: I didn't play galaxy much, very overrated - but loads of people love it.

Mario's great and always will be. Platforming masterclass with a recognizable character and a game that's accessible to everyone who knows how to hold a controller. My favourite has to be 3D Land, but I'd probably say Galaxy if I'd finished it.

We all know the world needs Kentucky Fried Duck.

I'm playing the new Paper Mario on WiiU right now and the graphics are insane! I played almost every Mario platformer and Paper game but the 3DS ones.

Praise the Sun, and Mario too.

@andreoni79: Yeah, trailers looked amazing. Can't wait to play it tomorrow, want to see how it holds up on a big screen. Maybe even better than Tearaway Unfolded?

Edit: Screw that, just got an email that notified me the game's arriving today!

I own the NES, Super NES, Gameboy, GB Color, Advance, DS, 3DS, N64, Gamecube, Wii and got rid of the Wii U...so I guess the only game that I haven't played that is Mario (besides those weird CD ones) is Paper Mario Color Splash...unless they run it over to the 3DS or onto their next console. Other than that, they're all pretty good games, with Super Mario Bros 3 being my favorite of all! Other than that, with nintendo in the position that they are in, unless you're around my age, or grew up in the NES Atari era or even grew up in the Sega Nintendo era, you would probably have not played many. I know many kids that know who he is because they have a game or two on their Wii's, but other than that, it's becoming a retro-type thing, and kids nowadays, want the blood and guts...not the great art style and colors that Mario and the gang brought. It seems that the platform adventure games are starting to slowly die off...there used to be a ton of them from the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube eras and down, but not too many in the upcoming console generation years. Hopefully, with nintendo's next console, more new Mario fans will come into play! I know my kids love him and the characters, so there is still hope!

@JLPick: It's funny how the best looking WiiU games are in the same time cartoonish, as platformers have always been, but also realistic: the natural environment in Pikmin 3, the clay in Kirby, the wool in Yoshi and the paper in Paper Mario CS look more real than anything seen in any PS4/XONE "realistic" game.
And I can't understand why a game like Ratchet and Clank get the "old school" and "nostalgia" marks, while FPS and openworld games are still considered as something "new"...

Praise the Sun, and Mario too.
