So I just finally fired up the amazing MGS4 on PS3 and couldnt help but remember just how fantastic the PSone MGS was.
Anyone else buy this day one before all the craziness exploded everywhere? I remember getting all the way to Psycho Mantis and could not figure out how the heck to hit him. I tried for hours until I literally got P.O.ed and just stopped. I dont even think there were really Internet forums like today, if so I didnt use them, but I remember going to shcool the next day and several of my buddies were all stuck too and that night one of them call me and is like "Dude... we just figured it out, he is reading you thoughts on the Controller 1 port, use Controller 2 and you kill him off. Today its not so groundbreaking but this was great crap back then.
Also this is the first game to fully utilize the Dualshock controller. Rumble was already on N64, but when the DARPA Chief dies from a heartattack an hour or so in the game, I was floored. I could literally feel the man die. Horrible, but great!
The remorse it made you feel when you landed that killing shot on Sniper Wolf knowing you just devastated Otacon.
Getting the alternate ending and thinking Meryl was actually gone, not to mention when she just layed beside you directly in line of Sniper Wolf being shot to death.
It was and still is a incredible gaming experience. I hope we will see a MGS Collection in HD for PS3 very soon. This game is everything to cineamatic storytelling in games as Super Mario 64 is to 3D Platforming and in my opinion are the two most groundbreaking titles of all time.

Metal Gear Solid Collection is a great shout. I played a bit of Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes on 'Cube and really didn't like it - I'm not sure why, I just think it's not my cup of tea. I grew up on Sonic games, I'm really not built for stealth!
@James.... You should really try to give it another shot and turn the difficulty down so its just fun and more forgiving. The story is epic, and the Gamecube remake is the uber version of the game to play. Though if you dont still have the Gamecube version the game is very cheap on PSN.
Im thinking before the multiplatform MGS Rising launces the PS3 will get its Collection Bundle as well as the MGS4 Trophy Patch that Kojima has talked up several times. Hope to see some Move/Kinect support for Rising as well.
I went from NES to Genesis and didnt touch a SNES until heck I guess PS2 era. I was a big Sega fanboy as a kid. But then again we are all fanboys of the systems we own as children lol.
I like Metal Gear Solid, and Metal Gear Solid 3, and I think I could grow to like Metal Gear Solid 2 and the portable games. I didn't like Metal Gear Solid 4, though.
@Mickey... you know this is the 3rd time Ive tried playing MSG4. Mainly I was hooked on trophies at one point and didnt give it a shot really the first two times, but crap this game is amazing. It kinda starts off slow for about 3 hours, or really its all a intro to things to come, once you meet Drebin and can start upgrading weapons to you liking and buying all kinds of guns it gets incredible. Not to mention the story is amazing in itself with the tremendously long but fantastic cutscenes. I HIGHLY recommend giving it another shot, open-minded of course, once you get into it a few hours you will be hooked.

Upgrading weapons is incredible in a shooter that has incredible gameplay. Killing is supposed to be the last resort in a stealth-action game. Sadly, Kojima forgot that while hoe was working on MGS4. Oh no wait, he didn't, since he made sure the combat was screwy enough so you'd actually want to avoid combat...so why am I forced into firefights so G-ddamn often?! They've made the stealth part harder, but they also made running away harder, too. Now it seems like every time I get caught I have to fight it out, and every time I do, I'm reminded how horrid the combat is. I mean, the combat has always sucked in MGS, it was supposed to make you try harder to avoid getting caught, and to make you run back to the previous room when you screwed up. Now it seems like they're trying to make it a shooter, yet they couldn't even make it fun in _that_ respect.
It's a shame, because I do like the story, but I can get that all on Youtube. The game itself is too much of a mess to put up with.
@Mickey.... Its not hard to stealth out MGS4 at all. Use the camo/facecamo to your advantage and the tranq guns the whole time. I did go throught this game blasting away at everybody. Upgraded my M4 and I blasted everyone lol. I had a blast with it only to get railed for it in the end stats lol. I got my Tranq Sniper now and all my camo and the second playtru is nothing but stealth!
@zez... I finished MGS4 in a week, then MGS PSone in a week and now on MGS2 and then on to Snake Eater lol. MGS4 was so fantastic Im going back thru them all. And as for the 2 PS2 games, you can get them dirt cheap at Gamestop.
@zez... the Substance games only offer a few new game modes that are cool but will put you around $15 a disc used at Gamestop. You can check you local WalMarts for a copy of the Metal Gear Solid Collection that has the PSone and PS2 games all packaged together for $20. That is if your really lucky and can find one, I did last week.
