Thought I'd start a thread on mobile gaming for Android phones. I'm not a huge fan of touchscreen gaming but tend to do a lot of it, it's not always convenient to whip out the Vita, and I do love my Sammy Note 2! I find that touch screen gaming is a bit of a minefield- it's either too simple, too complex or a car crash trying to play 'full' games with touch screen controls. Here I'd like anyone to recommend games that are like perfect partners to your phone, so a bit of a recommendation thread I suppose since there's so much junk on Google Play.
My top games recently are:
Rayman Jungle Run.
I got this on sale for 69p last week, then it got a free update, so winning there. I wasn't sure if it was just a 'cash in' same old continuous runner, but I felt compelled by the price..
It's well worth that, and the full price too I'd say. It runs on the same 2D engine as Rayman Origins, so is silky smooth and pretty everywhere. It is a continuus runner of sorts, but only in that it plays how you might want to do a speed run in Origins. Early on you can only jump with one tap, as you progress you can attack and wall run too. It's great fun, challanging- and quite a pleasant surprise.
Xelorians.
Easily the best shmup on Android, and I don't say that lightly.
So pleased was I to see my beloved Ikaruga finally release on Android, and a beautiful thing it still is, but even with the directness of the Sammy S-Pen, it's practically unplayable in later levels without resorting to a controller.
In comes Xelorians. The best implemented shoot 'em up I've played on my phone for touch screens. One touch control, and that's to move your ship, that's it. Auto-fire, great levels, varied enemies, lots of pick ups and a bit of a challenge- and, without doubt, the smartest mechanic of any touch screen shmup I've ever played-auto pause when you lift your finger off of the screen.
So how about you guys, what gets your battery drained?
I upgraded to an XperiaU bout 4 months ago so Ive finally been able to catch up on android games now ive a phone rocking a multicore processor n the like. I tend to not play as many as I thought id play to be honest. When im not firing up the GBA emulator for some Pokemon Green fun theres only a few games Im playing at the mo. I gave GTA3 a punt. Its a little fiddly at times but I like to keep it around as its good for showing just how far mobile gaming has come since the advent of smartphones. New STar Soccer is one Ive had on my phone for a while. All you need to do is google the game and you'll find more than enough praise for it. Its incredibly addictive starting a career as a lowly non-leage player and building yourself up. Each subsequant patch adds new little bonuses to gameplay too. Highly recommended! The game Im playing the most at the moment tho is -->
Aliens Vs Predator Evolution To be honest I was expecting much with this one but with me being a fan of most things Alien n Predator I thought "why not?". Usually that means you get burnt, but I quite enjoy this little game. Its basically an action game. You just run around levels as an Alien or Predator and kill/execute enemies. You subsequently get XP and coins which allows you to upgrade your character with new weapons/armour etc n also unlock bonus missions. If your looking for a simple button basher to pass some time you could do worse, you could do better, but I quite like it. On another positive note, its graphically stunning for a phone. My XperiaU is able to run the graphics on high and it deosnt look much worse that the Aliens Vs Predator FPS released on Ps3/360/PC a couple of years back. Textures, Lighting, Models animation etc is all top notch and the Predators roar when executing enemies is bang on
The only mobile game I play consistently is Pew Pew 2 (it's like Geometry wars).
There's a solid DJ Max game on Android, but it's so iffy depending on your device. My Bionic plays it just fine, but my friends Droid 3 can hardly run it (those two phones are similar in specs and OS).
To save our Mother Earth from any alien attack
From vicious giant insects who have once again come back
We'll unleash all our forces we won't cut them any slack
The EDF deploys!!
What about retro games on mobile? I usually try to find some ports and sometimes they're great (Double dragon & Metal slugs, Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy...)
