So, what do you think? I really like the design, and I'm actually relieved it's just an iteration on the Switch instead of something insane. That being said, though, until some exclusives release for it, I'm not sure when I'm getting it.
It's sleek, it's simple, it's more idiot proof with the obvious name, and colours and symbols for the Joy-Con inside the slots so you absolutely CANNOT mess it up.
I am most curious about using the Joy-Con as a mouse though. That'll make some games have definitive console experiences on this system, especially games that rely on mouse on PC like Civilisation.

It’s been a very unexciting build up and eventual announcement and has left about as much impression on me as a new iPhone, but I like it as much as I like the Switch 1 and my Steam Deck - they are all pretty much perfect so no complaints.
Of course, it’ll be the impending software announcements that matter and I am looking forward to hearing more!
Is the lack of OLED screen confirmed or was that a rumour? I really hope it isn’t a boring LCD!
It looks great and I cannot wait to replace my old Switch with it as the fan gets really loud now, on top of all the joy-con issues. Hopefully the new joy-cons will last longer.
Bigger screen is nice as well after having getting used to the PS Portal screen, which is larger than the Switch one. New Mario Kart is looking promising as well, I can't believe it's been over a decade since a new one came out. Hopefully we'll get even more first-party titles around launch as it feels like Nintendo has been saving them for Switch 2 as they've been winding down new releases on Switch 1.
I can’t see myself getting one after how little I bothered with my Switch. Might get one for the missus if she really wants one but I’d rather get her a ps5 tbh… regardless of how resistant she is 😏
@LtSarge I guess Pokémon Legends, Mario Kart 9 and Mario Odyssey 2 are the big ones they have lined up. And perhaps Prime 4, but it could also still be nowhere near done.
Nothing to sneeze at, but I'm longing for something more exciting.
@Herculean Those games will be playable on Switch 2 at the very least.
And if Metroid Prime 4 is, somehow, nowhere near done after restarting development in late 2018, and being given a 2025 release date, then I have serious questions.

If it's not noticeably more powerful, then I honestly could care less. I don't use my Switch much, but would've considered getting the Switch 2 and use it more if the games weren't going to be a blurry mess in comparison to the PS5 (or even the PS4). Also, if it really is going backwards with the screen and they'll try to milk people again with a future OLED edition, then that's another major negative.
I'll reserve final judgement until they actually reveal the specs and such later, but hopefully this doesn't end up being a minimal upgrade and honestly a cash grab millions will fall for.

@Bentleyma Agreed. The Switch was one of Nintendo's greatest ever ideas but it certainly wasn't perfect. This was mainly because of two very significant issues. The small, notoriously unreliable joy-cons and its largely outdated specs, both of which should be addressed with the new system.
The latter may have served their purpose for the first couple of years but it severely hindered developer ambitions beyond that. A refinement to fix both these issues was all that was really needed.
In contrast, the Switch aesthetics and its concept were widely admired by both the industry and consumers alike, so to change these would have almost certainly meant shooting themselves in the foot. This wide appeal was borne out with its 8 extremely solid years on the market. I mean, you simply don't turn your back on an idea that generates 150m units sold, not to mention the billions of revenue in software sales that created for them over such a protracted time. Refinement over revolution was almost certainly the right strategy this time around.
Personally, I'm reasonably happy with what we've got based on this reveal and am looking forward to the software announcements that will inevitably follow in the coming months. A new Mario Kart and Super Mario, along with all the third-party titles Nintendo players have missed out on in recent years should make for a really fascinating launch period.
Steam Deck OLED really stole a ton of my interest in this thing.
I mean, if it's getting a new 3D Mario, new Mario Kart, etc. in the first year and is priced reasonably, I'll likely snag one, but the hybrid appeal is mostly gone for me. It'll JUST be an exclusives machine.
Crossposting what I said on NintendoLife for people who don't drift across, pretty mixed emotions, overall.
I guess we kinda knew the Switch 2 would just be basically a pro Switch, but I still kinda hoped we would get more. Them advertising features that have been just the most minimal expectation on basically any other device for like two decades at this point just felt like some kind of parody.
Them also not offering prices for literally anything makes me super nervous, after I wrote this it was announced the price of the console, but also apparently that some of the Switch 2 games will be 80 dollars for the Eshop versions? Surely that can't be real?!
However, the line up of games looks excellent, I am glad we can upgrade games (shame it costs, and it is dependant on that cost I guess), but I'd still within in theory rather that than being forced to buy them outright all over again.
I will probably end up picking one up if I can, but I'd also say this direct gave me no FOMO and if I need to wait a bit, I will. I think I got my original Switch like four or five years into the Switch's lifecycle.
That presentation not only has made me not want a Switch 2 but I don't want to support Nintendo on a Switch 1.
I was finally looking to buy in and try all the stuff I missed out on but that presentation and all the details after left a real bad taste in my mouth.
Honestly I was most happy about Deltarune chapter's 3 & 4 release date and Silksong getting a brief appearance.
Also just have to say that Donkey Kong redesign is HORRENDOUS. I'm not a fan of Donkey Kong anyway... But good lord do I want to shove that DK into the vacuum of space. Shame the game actually looked pretty interesting.
I am SO curious to hear your thoughts on this direct @Ralizah.

They're out of their minds with that game pricing for Mario Kart. Thankfully, the bundle makes the game only $50.
I've said before that I think Switch 2 + a brand new game for $500 is acceptable, so I'll probably try to grab it. Because I sure as heck ain't paying $80 for it!
Other thoughts:
Free upgrades for certain Switch games is nice, but it makes me wonder if games with unlocked framerates won't automatically benefit from being played on the new hardware.
Hate seeing the paid upgrade concept from PS5 is back with a vengeance. I'm cool with paying for Kirby, since it comes with bonus story content, but I have to pay for better performance in other games? Really?
Genuinely surprised by the HDR/120fps support. In a good way.
On the other hand, I feel like 1080p handheld probably wasn't a wise decision. I'd rather get an 800p screen without any subnative games.
The mouse mode thing looks like a stupid gimmick that nobody will support after year one.
The Bloodborne spiritual successor being Switch 2 exclusive is the funniest thing ever.
$70 - 80 for games is still insane to me. Aside from the cheap bundled Mario Kart game, anything with that price tag is getting purchased used on principle.
Where this failed for me is in first-party support. Mario Kart World and DK Bananza look delightful, yes, but compare what we're getting to Switch 1's first year in terms of exclusives.
The third-party stuff is cool, I guess, if you only own a Switch, but I can play those games on other platforms already. Hell, Cyberpunk, FF7, etc. all already run really nicely on Steam Deck.
I already have the expansion pass and the Zelda games, so it'll be cool revisiting those in higher framerates with HDR.
@HallowMoonshadow I think the new DK design is based on the movie version.
