Considering they've practically strip-mined the Wii U's library for worthwhile exclusives, and have managed workarounds for at least two Wii games with a heavy emphasis on motion controls, I'd be deeply surprised if they didn't end up eventually releasing the Trilogy.

I'll laugh my butt off if they just casually announce it via Twitter like they do with some games. Like: "Oh, yeah, this thing exists, too. Releasing next month."

6 mainliner 3D Zelda game’s 1 cross gen, 1 ported 2 on NSO 2 to go. When would be the best time to release them? Not close to Tears Of The Kingdom so probably 2024.

@KilloWertz Well, yes and no. Let's say their next console isn't BC for some technical reason, do you expect them to port everything again all over?

I agree that it would be great if they were available somehow, but I don't like how they used them to fill in the gaps of Switch releases. Release them day one, have the legacy games available for those who want them. And focus on new releases.

Their N64 games for example run on emulators, yet they still drip feed them. They could release them all at once, but they wont, because they can use them to fill in empty release months. But that also means you're waiting years for certain legacy games to be available. That's just silly. The old Pokemon games were released on the 3DS went it was on its way out. Now we're five years in the Switch' lifespan, and you still cannot play them for some reason. And I bet when they will be made available, they will make a big commotion about it.

@Octane No, I don't, but unlike going from the Wii to the Switch, the next system should be pretty similar to the Switch (at least the whole hybrid thing).

I completely understand the frustration of them sitting on legacy content, obviously since I am frustrated with them about Metroid Prime. Your suggestion of them releasing everything at once is obviously the better solution. At least a lot more, as while it's an obvious tactic to fill in gaps and also keep people subscribed, the extreme drip feed pace they are doing the N64 games is pretty silly.

Even though they have positioned themselves really well, Nintendo is far from perfect. I will say, between their own games and 3rd party exclusives, they have managed to have a pretty deep library even if they can only have a portion of major 3rd party titles. A better approach to legacy content would be nice of course.

@Octane So here's the thing with the drip feed, as people word it.

Sure, you can drop everything legacy onto the system at once, instead of one N64 game per month, plus other systems in bigger but less frequent chunks.

But then what? You either have a consistent stream on content, which as we all know is the style of the time, or something that is set and forget and people will ask more from anyway.

I recall before NSO, people hated Virtual Console for selling games piecemeal and it should be a Netflix of games, as the saying went back then. Now we have that. People want VC back. Its weird.

Grass is always greener and all that. It's a conundrum I'm sure many companies face with the new global focus and acceptance on subscription content models.

I just wish Nintendo would make the effort to negotiate distribution rights for 'bigger' retro games. It's stupid that they can't find a way to get Legend of the Seven Stars on the service, but they're apparently fine with dumping ROMs of Z-grade titles that absolutely nobody remembers.

Nintendo's offering of classic titles was never better than it was on the Wii.

Of course, it's hardly like Sony is doing any better with their own overpriced Premium tier of PS+.

@Haruki_NLI You can argue about the way the games are distributed; service or one a one by one basis, everyone has their preferences. But what's the point in waiting five years for a 30 year old game to be made available? Imagine if Steam started from scratch every 5-7 years and released legacy games every now or then. That's a terrible system. Sony also dropped most of their legacy content when the new PS+ tiers became available. I don't think there are many Sony published games they held back to release on a later date, but I could be wrong.

I was actually thinking about this the other day, I'm glad one of the sites made an article about it. It's absolutely crazy how many appealing games Square has been pumping out recently and will be releasing in the future. It definitely feels like we're in a new golden age with Square, with the last one being during the 90s on SNES/PS1. We're very fortunate to have them delivering so many JRPGs again.

XBC3 is taking me ages, although I have "only" put 60 hours into it since launch which was almost 3 months ago now (?!). I am still on chapter 4, approaching the Castle, but I have gone back to do more side quests. I am limiting my fast travel quite a bit, even when the fetch quests have me running back and forth, and heading back to even earlier areas just to enjoy the scenery.

How much more game do I have beyond where I am? Am I half way through the main story perhaps? I wonder how the late game environments stack up to the earlier areas. I didn't find the Maktha Wildwood all that inspiring tbh.

@kyleforrester87 Ch. 5 is long-ish if you thoroughly explore the new region (and also probably represents the best stretch of exploration and storytelling in the entire series). Ch. 6 & 7 are fairly quick on the main story front, although a lot of side content continues to open up.

@Ralizah That's interesting! I am not hugely grabbed by the main story so far, although I really like the overall concept. It has it's moments but I am having most fun when I am off the beaten path. Hopefully it switches up a couple of gears...

@Ralizah just finished chapter 4, things seem to be moving now - very cool! And a nice bit of character development for my girl Sena to boot 👍🏻 Mostly maining her as a flash fencer and loving it.

@kyleforrester87 Main story-wise, things should move pretty quickly the rest of the game. It's fully out of its holding pattern now. You'll see what I mean soon.

Also, while it's not relevant yet, and you're obviously already doing side-quests, I did want to mention that you'll soon start unlocking "side stories" for the main characters. The game makes most of them optional, but they're all pretty much main story quests in everything but name only. Side Story: Sena, especially, is not one you'll want to miss.

Have you been enjoying the Hero Quests so far? Please tell me you unlocked Ashera last chapter.

@Ralizah oh nice, main character quests sound cool. Yes I got Ashera - I thought she was annoying for a moment, but she’s actually hilarious. The hero quests in general are good, they do feel a little disjointed and cumbersome at times but an excellent addition to the usual side quests, which are also pretty fun.

How in hell is NieR Automata running this well on Switch?

Genuinely mind-boggling how good this port job looks.

@Kairu If you're going for a hybrid play experience, it looks like an extremely decent way to experience the game.

I'll wait for the DF analysis, but I've also gotten the sense that the framerate is more stable on Switch than on PS4 (albeit lower overall, since it seems to be sticking close to 30fps).

@Kairu Even if it doesn't run flawlessly, don't let that stop you from experiencing this exceptional game! I played it back when it came out in 2017 on base PS4 and even though I experienced FPS drops, I was so glad that I played it since it's such a unique game. Interesting setting, wonderful soundtrack, fun combat, captivating story, it was such a great experience. And if you have an interest in philosophy, then you're going to like this game even more.
