I have been thinking about getting an Xbox One for a while now . Not as my main console but for the exclusives. There are a few games already on my radar which I will pick up but if anyone could list exclusives here that would be helpful. Also if you get the Gold on xbox can you add the games to your library rather than downloading straight away? I am not sure when I will buy it so I was thinking of joining the subscription now to get a few extra games.

@dryrain: As far as exclusives go, the Xbox has the usual Halo (5 and MCC), Gears of War: Ultimate edition and Forza (5, 6 and Horizon 2). It also has Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Titanfall, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Rare Replay, Ori and the Blind Forest, and of course Rise of the Tomb Raider (currently) with games like ReCore, Sea of Thieves, Scalebound, Crackdown 3, Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2 due in the next year or so.

If you do buy Gold, you can go to the the Xbox website and 'purchase' from there - including the 360 games. Xbox doesn't really have a 'Library' as such but all games you purchase (or have purchased from the 360 store and are available on XB1 through Backwards Compatibility) show up in your 'Games and Apps' as 'Available to Download'. If you do have a Gold Account now, as soon as you create your Xbox account, these games will show up in your Games and Apps as a small icon to download and install. If you buy from console, they tend to download straight away - where as 'purchasing' from the website and Smartglass don't (unless you have your console on 'Standby'. Games I had on my 360 'digitally' get added to my list of ready to install as soon as they are made backwards compatible.

If you are interested in this months GwG, particularly 'Dead Space' and 'Lords of the Fallen'', then you would need to have an active Gold membership by the 15th April. The system is 'slightly' different from IGC. With the 360 games, you only get 1 game at a time. On the 16th of every month, the first is replaced. With the XB1 games, you get 2 at a time but they are staggered - 1 game is available for the whole month, the other runs from the 16th of one month until the 15th of the next. Dead Space will be replaced by Saints Row 4 and Lords of the Fallen by Sunset Overdrive on the 16th April Both Saints Row 4 and The Wolf Among Us will stop being available on 30th April (don't know yet what will replace these) but Sunset Overdrive will remain available until May 15th. Joining Gold on or before 15th of a month will get you 5 games (1 that became available last month) - Hope that makes sense.

@SKC_Diamond: I am also on PureXbox and own an XB360/XB1 (as well as a PS3/4) so I see no issue with asking the question here - in a 'Retro and Other gaming thread. I know a few people here also own an Xbox and so the answers are 'more' than just 'being helpful' but contain facts from actually owning the system.

It may not be worth visiting PX if you rarely visit the site and don't actually own an Xbox yet. People don't always reply with a 'name' so you don't always get notification of a response. Also Pure Xbox doesn't have the same 'traffic' as here.

If @dryrain does decide to purchase, then I would certainly advise them to check out the site and can use his same 'log in' as here - same as if he (or anyone else) bought a Nintendo, I would recommend NintendoLife and they can use the same log in there too.

If Scalebound doesn't come to PC that is when I will probably breakdown and get a One.

Honestly I would stay clear from PureXbox. They don't get the traffic there like NL or PS there and the ones that do frequent there tend to be hardcore Xbox fans, even going as far as insulting Pushsquare and other Sony related things for no reason. Everytime I go there and say the truth about MS, I am met with insults and usually get into an argument with a few of the users there.

Don't get me wrong, the staff is great not really not as visible I guess you say as say Sammy, and it may take a few days for new articles to be posted but I like the staff, it's just the community that is visible is a bit to toxic for me.

i would say that if there are enough exclusives (for me it has to be at least 5) that interest you and you can afford it then GO FOR IT!, the XB1 is a good machine (even though i can't play mine any more because disc drive broke and i refuse to pay the over inflated price of digital games, not when physical games are cheaper)

as for how the downloading of games work, i think BAMozzy pretty much covered all you need to know there

How often do you game on PC? I can give you a more helpful answer if I know that.

@FullbringIchigo: Disc drive broken? Completely? I know there is an issue on 'older' models where the drive doesn't recognise discs and can sometimes make a grinding noise. The way to fix this is to turn the xbox over and give the console a 'tap' where the disc is (it realigns the cogs) and if you are having 'issues' of the drive not reading discs properly, lift the front up to about 45 degrees and insert the disc. It doesn't always take the disc in enough to be properly aligned and this method uses 'gravity' to work.

I would replace or repair mine but I really think MS will release 'something' in the near future - hopefully a more powerful and preferably 'next' generation console - so waiting to see if they do that first...

@BAMozzy: it doesn't even take discs in at all, it's completely broken, just stopped working one day

@BAMozzy: yeah the only solace i have is that i can still play some of the 360 games i got from games on gold for free by downloading them on my XB1 as my 360 is dead as well (in fact ALL my XBOX's are broke, even though i treat them with a lot of care)

@dryrain:
In that case, an Xbox One would be a good purchase, particularly if you like shooters and racers. Forza Horizon 2 and Motorsport 6 are both games I'd recommend, Gears of War is great and Halo 5 has pretty decent multiplayer. Sunset Overdrive and Dead Rising 3 are also a nice change of pace.

There are number of 'indies' if you like that sort of thing that seem to get a lot of praise or are highly anticipated - games like Ori and the Blind Forest, Cuphead, Below - not my thing but tend to have had (or get) a lot of attention. If fighting games are your thing PS4 obviously has Injustice and SR5 but Xbox has Killer Instinct (not saying it compares or anything but its an 'alternative' option). If you didn't have a XB360, there are a number of exclusives available from that generation you can play too - the whole GoW series for example. The list of BC games are increasing so you could pick up some 360 discs very cheaply and play these too.

I own all systems and would be happy to share my opinion on the X1 exclusive lineup.

First of all, I think it goes without saying that personal taste matters. How much you get out of PS4, X1 or Wii U will depend on your preferences. I'm the type of person that enjoys pretty much any genre of game, as long as it's good. Which is why I have such a broad span of gaming experience across every platform.

So, here's a list of some of the best exclusives X1 has that I've played:

1) Quantum Break.
This has to be the #1 game on the system, imo. You can ask @Gamer83 as well, and he can tell you how good this game really is. I was surprised because the game scored well but it didn't score exceptionally well. Honestly though, I haven't played a AAA game this good since The Last of Us on PS4. The gameplay is sort of like Infamous Second Son (which I loved btw), but with one of the best stories I've ever seen in a video game. There are 3 parts to an Act, and each part takes roughly 1 hour to finish. So about 3 hours per Act, then you get to enjoy 20 minutes or so of live action with the same actors. It's extremely well done and I can't recommend this game enough. Seriously amazing.

2) Rise of the Tomb Raider
Before the release of Quantum Break, this was my #1 game on X1. It's still exceptionally good though, and improves upon its predecessor in almost every way. I'm not sure how good Uncharted is because I honestly never played any of the games (although I own the collection), but I struggle to believe that those games could possibly be better than this is- it's just so dang good! Of course they very well may be- I'm just saying, this game is excellent. With that said though, the game is going to come to PS4, so it'll just be an early treat is all.

3) Ori & the Blind Forest
Not sure how much you play Nintendo games, but this is the best Metroid game I've ever played that's not actually Metroid. It's so incredibly good that it's hard to find adequate words to describe it. You absolutely must play this game, especially now that the Definitive Edition is released with even more content and options. It's superb.

4) Halo 5
Ok, I was never a Halo fan growing up, but Halo 5 is amazing. I bought and played every Call of Duty for the last 4 years running, and all I can say is that this game is so much better than those games are. SO much better. In fact I can't really think of a better FPS. Now do keep in mind, I play the campaigns and not the multiplayer, so your opinion on this game might differ from mine if you aren't into the campaigns. Although I hear the multiplayer is really good too- even better than the single player.

5) Halo Master Chief Collection
Hands down one of the best games ever pressed onto a disc, aside from perhaps Rare Replay. Just getting Halo 2 remade is worth the cash as one of the greatest FPS ever made. Getting the other 3 as well? PLUS Halo 3: ODST? This game offers serious value if you enjoy Halo games. Now personally, FPS is not nearly my favorite genre. In fact, there's only two franchises in the genre that I really care to play at all- Halo and CoD. And Halo, imo, is just so much better.

6) Rare Replay
Again, not sure if you grew up with Nintendo games, but if you did or if you like the platformers from the N64 era, this game is an absolute gold mine. Not all of the games are great, granted, but for $30 there's enough of them that are. I grew up on RARE, so for me this is one of the greatest games I have ever purchased. Unless you strictly adhered to modern gaming this should be mandatory purchasing for any Xbox One owner.

7) Forza Horizon 2
I do not like racing SIM's. In fact they bore me to death. I had always written off the Forza franchise because I thought they were all racing simulators. To my surprise, this game is not. It's actually a spinoff of the racing SIM series that's more like an arcade racer, and boy oh boy is it good! Like, seriously good! Racers are not even close to being my favorite genre- in fact I typically stick to cart racers like Mario Kart 8 or Sonic Racing Transformed, but this game rivals both of those. If you like arcadey racers- only set in a beautiful, gorgeous world where you can race across cornfields and mountainous roads in the European landscape, this game is an absolute gem.

8) Gears of War Ultimate
Never played a Gears game until this, and after playing it I have to admit it's a really fun game. I wouldn't say it's one of my favorite games but it's definitely a purchase-worthy game. In fact, I can't think of many third person shooters that are better, if any. You can't go wrong with this game if you're into the genre. And even if you're not, there's still a good chance you'll enjoy Gears. Can also pick up all the previous entries which are BC compatible.

9) Sunset Overdrive
I have to admit, I didn't enjoy this game as much as I thought I would. And I'm not really sure why. The gameplay is incredibly fun and the game just has this over-the-top craziness... it's hard not to make you smile. Maybe it's because there were so many other games out at the time that I just kind of lost interest, but whatever the reason was, I would still say this is a solid game. It's not the best game on the system by any means but it's really fun and I do remember the time I spent with it, I enjoyed very much. Definitely a game to consider if you own the system anyways.

10) Backwards Compatible 360 Games
I could have said Killer Instinct but honestly, I didn't really enjoy it enough to recommend. But you might like it, so at least considerate it if you are into that kind of game. If not, then here is my final recommendation- the 360 backlog. There are so many great games that are now backwards compatible with the system that it's an incredible asset to have for anyone who hasn't thoroughly explored the depths of the 7th gen library already. From Sonic 1/2/3 to Witcher 2, to Portal to Mirror's Edge to Mass Effect, to Alan Wake to Beyond Good & Evil HD to Fallout 3... there is already an incredibly diverse library for you to choose from, and it's getting larger by the month.
*********************************************************************************************************

All in all, I think the X1 is an excellent system to own. I buy most of my multiplats on PS4 for superior performance, so the X1, for me, is mostly relegated to exclusives, much like my Wii U. It doesn't have nearly as many exclusives as Nintendo's console but it has at least a dozen retail exclusives worth owning and a growing catalog of 360 games to choose from. Whether that's worth it or not is entirely up to you. But imo Quantum Break, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Ori & the Blind Forest alone are worth owning the console for. Having every Halo 1-5 and a half-dozen other games is just a cherry on top.

@dryrain: @JaxonH:

I'd definitely also throw a recommendation behind Quantum Break. The only thing I'd say though is a lot will depend on your enjoyment of story-heavy games and adding onto that, how you feel about sci-fi stories that focus on time travel. I really enjoyed and thought the game and live-action show tied in nicely. I also think the combat, though it has some quirks (no button to snap to cover and no shooting from cover, which is crazy in 2016), is extremely fun and with branching story paths I'd say it's worth it to playthrough at least twice. It's a fairly short game, 8-10 hours, so it's up to you if you want to spend $60 for that.

Depending on when you get an Xbox One, if you get one, I'd say the first two games to purchase are Rise of the Tomb Raider and Forza Horizon 2. Those are my two favorite games of this gen so far. But with RotTR also set for a PS4 release, maybe you want to wait and see how that version pans out. In that case, just sub that game with Sunset Overdrive, which is awesome and and can be bought for fairly cheap now. I think I've seen it going for $30.

I want to pick up Quantum Break on PC but heard it's had problems out of the gate. I wish they would just put in on Steam instead of having to mess with the Windows Store.
