My PS4 U/I theme is Rectangle
So simple Light Grey color with some cuboid shapes.
These are eu links, not US links
The burning car TLOU 2 theme is quite relaxing. I have used that over winter like a fireplace screensaver. I have most of the Witcher themes and have the Geralt and Ciri one at the moment on my slim. My Pro has this beautiful one which I'm surprised isn't on the list.
The Tetris effect one is my all time fav. Sometimes i just sit and listen to the song over and over.
Lots of lovely themes here, I'll go ahead and snag a few of them.
My Favourite theme is Subnautica.
Oh my word, I love that you put these together in an article like this. Thanks! A lot of great ones on there.
Great themes. But nothing will beat the paid for synthwave. And the accompanying music is great to boot
I have the DQXI theme on my yank account. I love the top half where the gang are all leaning against a wall.
Custom Cyberpunk2077 background on my main.
Tetris Effect metamorphosis has been my theme for a long time now, absolutely brilliant.
There's a great underwater Uncharted theme out there too which is ace.
Ghost of Tsushima one is really great looking free dynamic theme.
@BearsEatBeets Yup, i'm surprised aswell.
The background flute music, and the sound of wind blowing thru the leaves.
Ahhh....Zen mode activated
Firewatch and Neon Drive have the best themes. They are, however, not free.
Ghost of tsushima theme is great, but now I'm using cloud/sephiroth ff7 remake theme since I'm playing the game. I usually set my theme to the same game that I played.
@Anti-Matter I've had that as my theme since I bought my ps4 back in 2014. Love everything about it. It's simple (and clean), the soothing music, the sound effects. It's really one of the best ones
I dont think the ps4 had many great themes compared to ps3. A lot of the dynamic themes sucked and a lot of the good ones were locked behind some kinda special promo or a game or something. Hope the ps5 will be better
The Dark Souls III Transitory Lands theme is my absolute favorite. It was my theme for the longest time. This is the link (for US) :
https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP0700-CUSA03388_00-DS3THEME00000004
Game of Thrones was my main for about a year. Besides having fire breathing dragon it also plays the theme really loudly. I haven't tried all of these but can't believe it isn't on the list.
As others have said same goes for Ghost of Tsushima which replaced GoT.
That dragon quest 11 theme is beautiful.i just download it now.get your drink on like i am right now.word up son
I like Far Cry 5 theme
But these two are even better:
Tetris Effect Metamorphosis Dynamic theme.
Mirror's Edge Dynamic theme .(which is missing from the article?) And my favourite for a subtle peaceful theme.
There are some nice themes on this list that I didn't know about. Can I give a shout out to Bernard the Bear and his eternal bike ride theme? He's a hero of mine
please add US links too, many of them are from EU PS-Store...

@JJ2 I love the tune on the mirrors edge theme as well. Proper chilled
Nice job on this and even better idea thanks for sharing. Ive rocked the 20th anniversary theme past few months, pic doesnt do it justice.
I have the Pacman Championship 2 Theme on my PS4, not the most amazing theme but i like it, the music is cheery and image isn't too busy to make it hard to use.
I still have Dishonored 2 Karnaca one, the music is so soothing.
I have the other FFVII dynamic themes on at the moment, the group one. Love the music.
It's a shame I can't download a few of them because I live in the U.S.
the actual ps plus theme itself is quite nice blue and yellow with some lightning
@wiiware im using that same theme atm also. I tend to do the same thing of using the theme of whichever game im playing. Its a pretty nice theme imo.
I had Game of Thrones theme, than looong time Lone Wolf theme and now Dark Souls Citadel theme. These 3 are very rare themes, where wallpaper doesn't disturb and keeps operating system menu "clean" without color noise.
I would love to have my ps3 theme Ratchet&clank with blured SlipknoT logo wallpaper, but some fu(king idiot in Sony forgot to implement "custom wallpaper" for other than default theme.
I'm using the Oxenfree theme again, although the game isn't that replayable. The disturbing soundtrack makes me get on and play a game so as not to listen to it.
@ellsworth004 Yup, for when playing ff7r, Final Fantasy VII Remake Cloud Theme is also good but the music is too distracting, the battle music is too good so I just listening to the music rather than playing the game
@LaJettatura create a UK account and download them to your machine.
As @JJ2 states above - Mirrors Edge Dynamic Theme. Never played either of the games, but absolutely love listening to that ambient sci-fi theme tune whenever I switch on my PS4 or return to the UI etc.
My favorites and ones that I keep going back to are Rime, Ghosts of, and Tetris. If I add a paid theme the only one I bought Dancing skeletons for only .99.
I use almost exclusively the Geralt vs Monsters theme. Sometimes I switch it with something else for a day or two, but I always end up switching back, by now it's become my default theme I really like the music, the sound effects, and I absolutely love the icons. The chopped off Griffin 's head for the trophies is the best
@BearsEatBeets whats that theme called please?
@RisingSupremacy It's a Ghost of Tsushima dynamic theme. They gave out codes for it back in January. Not sure how you if it's still getable, might be why it's not in the article.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2020/01/reminder_stunning_ghost_of_tsushima_ps4_dynamic_theme_is_only_free_for_another_week
@BearsEatBeets thats a shame, appreciate the response anyway!
Favourites have been Far Cry 5, God of War and the Everybody's Gone to the Rapture themes (the latter mainly because of the awesome music). Shenmue is quite good too.
Trying out the tetris one now based on the above - nice dolphin firework effects.
The No Man's Sky theme has a great Synth track playing with a real 70's retro Sci-Fi look.
I have the Uncharted one that cycles through the maguffins. Don’t know if it’s available any more though.
You have to love the free Shenmue theme!

I am a huge fan of quality PS4 themes, I have been since PS4 launch. It's kind of depressing that new new themes on the store have been for sale since December of 2019
Oh wow, I love Tetris Effect but didn't know there was a free theme. Thank you, Pushsquare!
It could have an option to automatically switch between the themes we have downloaded, like it is in 3DS.
@BearsEatBeets haha im using that one too its soo nice and calming
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L It's been that kind of year, hasn't it.
Probably a good thing GoT season 8 didn't air this summer, people would have been reenacting that King's Landing ending w/ monster trucks or something. This would be Portland right now.
@ApostateMage The DQXI theme would be so much better if there was music from the game playing. The theme gives me DQ9 Vibes.
REZ Infinite is by far my favourite Playstation theme. Also, all the ones by the studio that made V.E.V, especially their synthwave ones!
My favorite theme is the cherry blossom one that changes based on what time of day it is. It's not free however.
I've always loved the free Jessica Jones one they gave out to tie-in with the show, it switches between animated Jessica and Kilgrave images and has the entire song called Thousand Eyes by Of Monsters and Men played over it, it was used in the trailers and its a fantastic song so having the whole thing played over the theme is amazing.
I like the more minimalistic themes because the XMB is cluttered enough as it is... so logos, even for games I like, are a dealbreaker for me. The Sony anniversary themes do a good job of keeping a cleaner look. There is a nice PS1 and PS2 theme out there, but I think they cost some moolah. Maybe do a top paid themes list?
I don't think I've ever changed mine since the AR Bots Dynamic Theme came out lol.
As a designer I have a huge issue with 90% of the themes that they make the icons less legible and make the user experience worse.
@80sGamer
Yeah, couldn't agree more. I thought PlayStation Home was more than a tad silly, but I miss it. I had a lot of fun meeting new people and thought it added a social element that was lost with the PS4. Met a lot of cool people on there, a few who later became real life friends even. My friend's list is anemic now and the Communities option is a pretty weak replacement.
Is there a way to shuffle randomly my themes every so often when I go to the home menu? I used to enjoy doing that on the 3DS
