Why are you getting the "install suspended" message in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? In Modern Warfare on PlayStation 4, some players are having trouble with a message in the game, informing them the install has been suspended. But what does this mean, and how can you fix the problem? In this guide, we're going to tell you how to solve the "install suspended" error message in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on PS4.
What does "install suspended" mean in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on PS4?
Lately, PS4 users trying to download and install a new update for Modern Warfare are having trouble with the "install suspended" error message. Whether it appears on the campaign, special ops, or multiplayer, "install suspended" means just that -- the update's installation has been put on hold.
Why is "install suspended" appearing in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on PS4?
The reason you're seeing the phrase "install suspended" in Modern Warfare is because of how the game is packaged. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is split up into multiple parts when you download it. If you're seeing the "install suspended" error message, it's because you don't have all the packs downloaded to your PS4, which basically means the game is incomplete and doesn't have all the data it needs.
How do you fix the "install suspended" message in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on PS4?
The good news is that it's pretty easy to solve this issue. Find Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on your PS4's menu. With the game's icon highlighted, press down on the D-pad or left stick to view its information. Now, scroll down to where it says 'PlayStation Store' and select it.
You'll be presented with all the add-on packs you have installed and that you've yet to download. What you need to do is make sure you've downloaded and installed all the essential packs for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. To do this, go into the add-ons you haven't downloaded yet by selecting 'View All'. From here, download all the add-on packs you can find that don't cost any money. No need to splash out (unless you want to, of course) -- just start downloading all the free add-on packs.
Once these are installed, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare shouldn't display the "install suspended" message any more, and you should be good to go.
We hope this has helped you get back into the fight. Have you been having trouble with the "install suspended" message in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? Share any other tips in the comments below.

It’s a piss poor way they have done this. I downloaded the update yesterday, got the install suspended screen then had to download another 18gb patch. Nonsense
This is very odd.
@get2sammyb frustrating as well.
This game is going to be 250-300 GBs before its all said and done lol.
The game doesn't deserve all this effort and HDD space just to install a patch...
When on the store you can also put a filter on so that it only shows the free items of DLC. Handy for when games have loads of in game currency packs. I always do this when I get a new game just to see if there are any free bits available.
I installed all packs and there is no packs left to download but i still have this issue what should i do ?
Please help me
Launch the game. Press X on the mode that reads suspended. Download the data.
@JorbNorb it says 'there is no content '
I have multi pack two installed but somehow multi pack 1 uninstalled or dissapeared and when I try to download , everything freezes at the fetching game installs. Is this a COD issue or is this a hardware issue ? WHAT IS GOING ON ?!
@Omid same thing with me . I go to the add on and they are all the add ins that cost money but have nothing to do with essential game functions
@Aberrio1 they must fix it soon
We pay for this game
@Boucho11 right this is just ridiculous why does it need to be 20g what in the heck
@Omid pop out the dish and just load the game again give that a go
@Netret0120 right!!!! This is ridiculous
Maybe it's just the PS4 asking you to play something else...
@andreoni79
Its this reason why i've just left this new COD alone.
200-300GB for 1 game is too much. I can literally fit 5-10 quality PS4 games into that
@Omid try to free some space on your HD, that's what I had to do to fix it, and boy, I had +100GB available before deleting more games!
@Aberrio1 try to free some space on your HD. It worked for me
@Boucho11 I have the same problem, with it saying install suspended, I have the full game and the latest update. Is there a patch to fix this?
@UrDaSellsAvon no you need to go and download the data1 patch.
@JohnnyShoulder cool. Didnt know that!
@Omid For some reason all the packs were deleted and when I tried to redownload the 1st multiplayer pack it kept freezing at the STORE page. After trying 20 times it went through and loaded. Everything back to normal!
@jeanrothen Thank you for the advise. For some reason all the packs were deleted and when I tried to redownload the 1st multiplayer pack it kept freezing at the STORE page. After trying 20 times it went through and loaded. Everything back to normal!
this is complete nonsense. Game is already so heavy and nothing in it. all standart s***. other game s bearly reach 70 gb with same ammount of content but cod somehow manages to be almost 200GB . On pc 90+gb for mp and another 90+ gb for warzone alone. what the freak are you doing activision? This might be my last cod game forever. and the fact i have to download another stupid data patch worth 20gb. is ridiculous. even tho i had game on up to date already. You as devs suk ass.
I have MW and all 4 of its packs installed, yet it still says this. Wtf? How do I fix that?
@zeNitros Language please.
i have the packs downloaded and still have this error!!!
I followed these instructions precisely, and it still didn’t fix for me - read on if the same for you.
I’d downloaded all the packs that were available for free in the store menu, came back to game menu to select mode. Still had the message. And after clicking the mode the “Install Suspended” message was on, it showed that all of the available packages there were checked as installed.
I had tried everything else at this point, so I gave it a shot- I selected “uninstall” and confirmed to uninstall just one of the add packs, like Special Ops Pack 2. Lo and behold- went back into the game menu on the ps4 dashboard, and there were magically 6 download files as available. Downloading all now, then will load the game menu to ensure they install. They better- I have 160 gb disk space as of this writing..
@PutnAHurtnOnYa you should have 8 total add ons I believe. Multiplayer Packs 1 & 2, spec ops pack 1 & 2, campaign pack 1& 2, compatibility data pack 1, and survival pack.
But it does it on random even while I’m playing
i had the same issue only to find out that i need to make sure that i have an account or using an account with the same region/country as the game. ... smh ...
once i used the right account, the other missing add-ons were posted/available. i downloaded the missing packs and installed it and it was completely installed. however.. the "install suspended" message is still there when i use my original account (US) .
other details:
the game cover says it is region free.. but the text is in spanish or packaged in MX
i though iit should be ok using my US account but no. i needed to create a dummy MX account in order for the add-ons to appear...
hope this somehow helps... just my 2 cents
@mantisxxx hey Mantis I think I have the same issue my account and everything on my ps4 is from the US but I bought the game in Dubai how you find out if the version I have is from the Middle East or US ?
I have everything installed from the game and The store and still get the installation suspended
Is there a video of this that I can watch
Never seen anything so ridiculous. I've been f***ing around for 2 hours with this crap. Everytime it says game ready to play. there's another install and copy. Nonsense.
Ok, but what if when I try to install add ons and then load up up the game, the add on disappears like it never was installed and I still have the installation suspended message
I have the game installed. I have all the required add on packs. I've been playing the game on and off for about 6 months but, so far, I've received the "install suspended" at least 9 times in those 6 months and have had to reinstall them despite already having them.
This will be the 9th time. The game tells me everything is installed. There's nothing to click on to install and I STILL have the "install suspended" message.
It's great that they just put out a new season to buy. Why fix the existing game that they've already been paid for when they can sell us new stuff?
Been playing this again the last two weeks. Last night the game crashed. I submitted a report, then when I went back on the game, everything had gone. I'm now having to download all the packs again. This is ridiculous.
"Once these are installed, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare shouldn't display the "install suspended" message any more, and you should be good to go."
Want to bet?
I'm on my 9th and 10th time for downloading the multiplayer pack 2 and it STILL says it's suspended.
It's great that they keep coming out with new stuff when the old stuff clearly isn't working. All just a f&^%ing money grab.
