What are all romance options in Dragon Age: The Veilguard? Romance returns in the series' latest instalment, giving you the option of entering into a relationship with various characters.
In this Dragon Age: The Veilguard guide, we detail every romance option, and how you can eventually woo them as the game progresses.
Who Can You Romance in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
As is the case in most of BioWare's previous games, there are characters in Dragon Age: The Veilguard who can be romanced. Entering an intimate relationship with a character impacts various conversations, as well as later events in companion-based quests and the main story.
Rook's race and gender have no bearing on who you can and cannot romance. Some conversations with your romantic partner can change slightly depending on Rook's gender, however.
There are a total of seven characters you can romance in Dragon Age: The Veilguard — all of them are party members, who join your team over the course of the main story.
Those characters are...
Harding
Harding joins your team right from the beginning of the game. She's a dwarven rogue who tends to maintain a positive or headstrong outlook even when things are going badly.
Harding appeared quite prominently in the previous Dragon Age game, Dragon Age: Inquisition — although she was not a party member, and she couldn't be romanced.
Neve
Neve joins your team from near the very start of the game. She's a human mage who works as a detective, attempting to bring justice to the seedy streets of Minrathous. She has close ties with the Shadow Dragons, a vigilante faction.
Neve is stern and has a dry sense of humour. She rarely lets her guard down around anyone, but it's clear that she has a soft side when it comes to helping people.
Bellara
Bellara joins your team near the start of the game. She's an elven mage who runs with the Veil Jumpers, traversing and researching the ancient elven ruins scattered across Arlathan Forest. She's incredibly supportive and friendly, but struggles to organise her thoughts and feelings.
Bellara's constantly tinkering with relics and other ancient objects, even at the cost of getting a good night's sleep.
Lucanis
Lucanis joins your team early in the game. He's a human rogue who takes on contracts as an assassin for the Antivan Crows. He's great at what he does, having earned himself the nickname 'The Demon of Vyrantium'.
Lucanis is dry and witty, but also surprisingly approachable, despite his violent profession.
Davrin
Davrin joins your team several chapters into the game. He's an elven warrior who's fiercely loyal to his order, the Grey Wardens. His constant companion is a young griffon called Assan, but Davrin often struggles to connect with the beast.
Davrin's quite serious and can come across as a little standoffish, but he's clearly well-meaning in his morals and subsequent actions.
Taash
Taash joins your team several chapters into the game. Taash is a qunari warrior, who has a penchant for hunting down dragons. Taash has a deep respect and fascination with the creatures; an obsession that's led to many an adventure with the Lords of Fortune.
Taash is shockingly blunt at times, often blurting out heartfelt reactions without considering the consequences.
Emmrich
Emmrich joins your team several chapters into the game. He's a human mage who's part of The Mourn Watch — a faction that watches over the dead and defends against the restless undead in the Grand Necropolis.
Emmrich is a gentleman through and through, which perhaps subverts the expectations of those around him, given his calling as a necromancer.
How Do You Romance Characters in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
Actually romancing one of your allies is mostly a case of persistence. in various conversations that take place at the Lighthouse — your base of operations — you'll be given the opportunity to flirt with whoever you're talking to.
The flirt dialogue option is suitably symbolised by a big heart. Naturally, choosing this option will result in Rook dishing out some charm.
Selecting flirtatious dialogue doesn't lock you into any kind of commitment. You can flirt with as many or as few characters as you like.
However, there will eventually come a time when the character you've been flirting with will address your advances.
This occurs after you've progressed, at least partially, through that party member's personal questline — so be sure to check in at the Lighthouse after returning from an adventure. You can open your map to see whether anyone has a new quest or conversation for you, marked by an exclamation mark next to their portrait.
Some characters will raise the topic of a relationship earlier than others, however — it's not a completely clear-cut thing.
When this happens, you'll need to decide whether you want to begin an actual relationship with that character. If you're in, you just select the dialogue option with the heart. You'll be locked out of beginning a relationship with anyone else.
But if you're not feeling it, or you're looking to romance someone else, select the dialogue option with the broken heart (how sad). This locks you out of pursuing that particular relationship.
