In MLB The Show 25, there are three hitting interfaces you can choose from, all of which leverage the same foundational button controls.

In each instance, you'll use the X button for a Normal Swing, the Circle button for a Contact Swing, and the Square button for a Power Swing.

The difference between the three hitting interfaces revolves around what you'll do with the analogue stick. The options are:

Zone
Use the analogue stick to move the Plate Coverage Indicator (PCI) to line up your swing.
Directional
Use the analogue to help influence the direction of the ball if contact is made.
Timing
The analogue stick is not used, allowing you to focus on the timing of your swing.

In all circumstances, the best hitting interface to use is Zone. This is because it gives you the most control of your swing, and is therefore the competitive standard.

While there are a multitude of statistics which contribute to the outcome of a swing — including both the batter and pitcher's unique attributes — the Directional and Timing options don't give you control of the PCI, meaning you'll be leaving the game to decide what kind of contact you make. This may be acceptable to the most casual players on the lowest of difficulties, but even rookies are going to want some form of control over where they swing and why.

It's important to underline that the hitting interface works independently from difficulty, so you can still enjoy a more forgiving experience with wider sweet spots while also maintaining control of your PCI. For this reason, we'd strongly recommend you always use Zone.
