Spyro: Reignited Trilogy - Sparx the Dragonfly, What He Does, and How to Feed Him Butterflies

Here's everything you need to know about Sparx in Spyro: Reignited Trilogy.

What Does Sparx the Dragonfly Do?

First and foremost, Sparx is essentially Spyro's health meter. His colour indicates how many hits Spyro can take before he loses a life. Sparx will go from gold (full health), to blue, to green, and then will disappear. Once he's gone, Spyro will die the next time he takes damage and restart from the last checkpoint.

Sparx will also pick up nearby gems and pass them to Spyro, helping you to collect all the gems in each level. Better still, he'll even point you in the direction of the nearest gem if you press L3.

In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, Sparx becomes a playable character for certain levels.

How Do You Heal Sparx?

There is a way to get Sparx back up to full health, and that's by feeding him butterflies. Butterflies can be found by attacking "fodder" enemies, such as the first game's sheep in Stone Hill. If you charge or flame them, they'll disappear, releasing a butterfly for Sparx to eat, which he'll do automatically. Each butterfly increases his health by one stage.

In Spyro 1, 2, and 3, you can also find blue butterflies. These butterflies will increase Sparx's health to maximum and will give Spyro an extra life. They're found every 10 butterflies Sparx eats, or in Spyro 2 and 3, you can find them in bottles.
