Will The Last of Us 2 be on PS5? Naughty Dog's sequel has cemented itself as one of the PS4's biggest releases, but is The Last of Us 2 coming to PS5? As part of our The Last of Us 2 guide, we're going to reveal whether you should expect a next-gen version of the post-apocalyptic adventure.
The Last of Us 2: Will It Be on PS5?
The Last of Us 2 is playable on PS5 thanks to the next-gen system's backwards compatibility functionality, as well as a remastered version aptly named The Last of Us 2 Remastered.
For existing owners, this version is available as a $10 upgrade, and includes a new roguelike mode named No Return. You'll either need a digital copy or your existing PS4 disc to take advantage of the upgrade.
As of 3rd April, 2025, The Last of Us 2 Remastered is also available on PC.

I'd much rather they just release an update that adds PS5 bells and whistles to the PS4 version. A PS5 specific version isn't really needed with backwards compatibility.
I really hope they release a PS5 version. Can't wait to play the game at 4k 60 fps
Trying to install the game onto the PS5 right now. And it doesn’t want to play ball.
Doing this the same way it installed on the PS4, with the data disc, followed by the play disc.
I let the update install completely.
The complete file size says 99.68GB, but it only ever installs 72.44 GB. Yet download status states “Completed”.
An onscreen message then says “Finished copying from disc. Insert the Play disc”.
So I do that and the game begins to load. Black and white picture of Ellie, as usual. And then, nothing…
Blank, black screen, and no activity.
Closing the game brings up an error message which reads “Something went wrong with the system software”.
And only 3/4 of the data ever installs. I tried installing the game onto the PS5 Hard drive, and onto the USB External Hard Drive, both with the same result.
So, this has happened four times now, and it never installs correctly.
And ideas, anybody?
Or should I wait for the native PS5 version.
