By now you've probably read our monstrous guide on The Witcher 3's various skills. We're going to assume, then, that you've got a good idea of how you want to upgrade your character – but you're going to need some Ability Points to get going. You'll nab these when you level up, but seeing as this isn't the type of title where you can effectively grind, the Places of Power will become your friend. There are 15 of these located throughout the game, and each is marked with one of your magic signs, which they'll temporarily boost to boot. Quick tip: if you have all five of your signs powered up at once, you'll unlock a Trophy.
Where are the Places of Power in White Orchard?
- Nearest Signpost: Mill
Magic Sign: Igni
Head north from your starting position until you reach a cemetery. You'll spot an obelisk-type structure which is the Place of Power. Beware, though, as there's a wraith that lurks in this location. - Nearest Signpost: Mill
Magic Sign: Aard
Retrace your steps to the previous Place of Power, but keep heading north until you find the next monument in the centre of the forest area. There's a ghoul nest nearby, so good luck. - Nearest Signpost: Cackler Bridge
Magic Sign: Quen
You need to travel north-east from your starting position in order to nab this one. There are ghouls in the area, so give them a good licking before claiming your prize. - Nearest Signpost: Abandoned Village
Magic Sign: Yrden
From your starting position, go east off the beaten path and then travel south shortly before reaching a road. You'll come up against a bear here, but do the bare necessities by bludgeoning it in the head. - Nearest Signpost: Sawmill
Magic Sign: Axii
From your location follow the road north. As it begins to curve to the left, travel into the wilderness to the east and kill the wraith that awaits you.
Where are the Places of Power in No Man's Land?
- Nearest Signpost: Elector's Square
Magic Sign: Igni
From your starting position, move to the north-east of this area. There are no monsters to be aware of, but you will probably want to avoid getting into a bust-up with guards. - Nearest Signpost: Frischlow
Magic Sign: Aard
Head down into the marshes in the south. There will be fairly high-level wraiths in this area, so you may want to save this one until later if you're not feeling especially tough. Of course, Geralt scoffs at the very idea of danger. - Nearest Signpost: Lornruk
Magic Sign: Quen
Look for the broken bridge around this area. You'll find the Place of Power on the beach at the base of structure, but beware of drowners. - Nearest Signpost: Downwarren
Magic Sign: Yrden
You should be able to spot this Place of Power atop a mountain peak. Fight the controls to reach the top, and reap your rewards. - Nearest Signpost: Alness
Magic Sign: Axii
Travel south-east from your starting position, and scour a hill for the Place of Power. Climb it from the north, and this one is yours.
Where are the Places of Power in Skellige?
- Nearest Signpost: Svorlag
Magic Sign: Igni
Head north-west from the village and climb up a mountain that overlooks it. You'll find the Place of Power perched atop it. - Nearest Signpost: Gedyneith
Magic Sign: Aard
Travel directly east, toward the road north of Redgill. You're looking for a dilapidated brick structure, which is guarded by a cyclops. Be a love and prod it in the eye. - Nearest Signpost: Yngvar's Fang
Magic Sign: Quen
Head directly south from your starting location, and find the outlook overlooking Urialla Harbour. There are trolls and all sorts here – and not those of the keyboard warrior kind. - Nearest Signpost: Harviken
Magic Sign: Yrden
Move west, before taking the road north after the Rabid Rock Troll's Cave. There are white wolves and endrega loitering around this area to test you, so give them a good stab with your trusty sword. - Nearest Signpost: Fornhala
Magic Sign: Axii
Travel south of the abandoned village of Fornhala and you'll find this among some rocks by the side of the road.

I love the ? locations. Exploring in this game is just great. I feel like everything I do in this game is meaningful and not just filler.
@Splat One of the main reasons I slapped a 10/10 on it. Every time I started a new quest, I was blown away all over again. The attention to detail and the effort that's been put into every little thing is mindblowing.
@Splat agreed
There are actually 6 of them in the White Orchard area... could be the same or more in other areas haven't fully explored yet though so there are more than just 15 of them
